Milligan endorses Sink
Former Republican comptroller Bob Milligan today threw his endorsement to Democratic chief financial officer candidate Alex Sink: “There is no doubt in my mind that with her 25 years of financial leadership, Alex Sink is the most qualified candidate to be Florida’s next Chief Financial Officer,” said General Milligan. “I’d rather have an experienced banker and businesswoman watching over my money than a politician any day.”
Did Milligan miss the memo on this being Republican unity day? "Yes, he must have,'' said Gov. Jeb Bush. "Bob milligan has been marching to a different beat for a long time.... ...Tom Lee is significantly better and more able to take on that job than Alex."
Tom Lee said he hadn't heard about the endorsement, but "I know he's a marine and he goes back a long way with Bill McBride."

Good thing he was more loyal to his country than his party.

Key words: FORMER REPUBLICAN
Posted by: | September 07, 2006 at 02:21 PM
This confirms whats been known. Lee faces a "devide" in his Republican support as folks either love Tom Lee or hate Tom Lee. Lee is going to loose to Sink in the General.

Milligan means NOTHING in the Republican party. He's just the tool the dems turn to when they want to look bipartisan. emphasis on 'tool'.

is that milligan or mulligan?:)
Posted by: | September 07, 2006 at 02:43 PM
Either way, it's a free swing!

I respect Gen. Milligan for his service in the Marine Corp., but I think he was way out of his element in Tallahassee, where he was viewed as an "outsider". I'd like to believe that the good General would have thought twice about endorsing Ms. Sink had he known that some of the corporations she's been involved with at a senior level have been sanctioned by regulators for problems involving tens of millions of dollars. A cost of doing business, some would say. Well, maybe. But speaking for myself, I'd prefer a CFO with fewer ties to the banking and brokerage industries.

2:55 -
The banks are regulated almost entirely by federal reserve regulations. The types of institutions heavily affected by state laws are mainly insurance companies - which Ms. Sink is not connected to.

Didn't Milligan lose his senate race?
Posted by: | September 07, 2006 at 03:08 PM
Milligan never ran for the Senate, that was Bob Butterworth.
Also, the fact that Milligan was always perceived as an outsider in Tallahassee is something that he wore a badge of honor.
Third, A LOT of Republicans have A LOT of respect for Bob Milligan and this endorsement will hurt Tom Lee A LOT more than any of you partisan hacks wish to believe.

Tom Lee is the sexiest man in politics. you see how built he is? no wonder he ahs the young girl!

I also respect Gen. Milligan for his service to our state and nation. His endorsement don't hold much political weight, afterall, he endorsed LeRoy Collins Jr in the GOP Senate Primary. It brought in an entire 14% of the vote.

correction: endorsements

Liberal Milligan endorsed Liberal Crist. It will be great to have liberals in charge of government soon!
Posted by: | September 07, 2006 at 03:34 PM
A LOT of people don't care about Milligan. However, A LOT of people will learn A LOT about Alex Sink and how she gave A LOT of money to A LOT of liberals.

The Democrat tool endorses the circus freak. Yawn. Next.
Posted by: | September 07, 2006 at 03:49 PM
Lee can't even get endorsements from his own party. Now that's sad.
Posted by: | September 07, 2006 at 03:57 PM
You Lee staffers are so lame- if the general would have endorsed your guy, you would be shouting it from the rooftops.
Posted by: | September 07, 2006 at 03:58 PM
General Milligan served our state well while Comptroller. Lobbyists could not buy him and that's why you see some of the nasty remarks above. Milligan always put the welfare of the people who elected him before the politicians and lobbyists.

General Milligan tried to serve the state well. Unfortunately, he was dependent on Gerald Lewis hangers-on who basically kept him in the dark and continued doing business as usual. Believe me, I know!

Milligan damn near endorsed McBride in 2002, he was still angry about the CFO reorganization. He was even mentioned as a potential McBride running mate before they brilliantly chose Tom Rossin. Sink had charmed him years back as BOA president. Nothing really surprising: Milligan was recruited by Slade to run in 1994, he was never a real partisan guy, Slade wanted an honest person to run against Gerald Lewis. He has a relationship with Sink. He endorsed Butterworth over Atwater as well in 02.

Yes, and he is chairing the anti-Republican reapportionment amendment that may someday make the ballot, if the general can get his helmet out of his butt and make it meet muster legally.

Tom Lee has been rude and highly offensive in his interactions with Charlie Crist and his public comments for the past 18 months about Charlie. Many of us have taken note of this fact and will vote for him (out of loyalty to RPOF)but otherwise not lift a finger.
Lee single handedly killed the anti-murder bill as a favor to Gallagher.

There should be requisite IQ test score of 80 in order to serve as an occupant of statewide office. Apparently, this is the cutoff that NFL teams use for evaluating a Quarterback (this is the bare minimum to get drafted as a QB, the only exception was Vince Young).
I bet that Tom Lee would not qualify for this bare minimum which one would expect for the CFO of Florida.
Posted by: | September 07, 2006 at 07:24 PM
Did Floridians really need CC's anti-murder bill?

When members of one Party endorse a candidate of another Party they are no longer part of their original Party.
To be an actual Republican or Democrat Party member you have to be loyal!

I hope the Crist people will be mature enough to gt past their tiff with Tom Lee. I guarentee he will be better for Crist in the cabinet than Alex Sink. Charlie Crist needs to rally his troops. We cannot afford to lose one cabinet office. Not one.
Posted by: | September 08, 2006 at 09:31 AM
As I said yesterday, I will vote for Tom Lee but holding my nose. He went from a modest, consensus seeking legislator to an arrogant and condescending Royal Prince.
As far as winning CFO seat, there is no way that Tom Lee beats Alex Sink. We win the others readily but lose this cabinet position.
Posted by: | September 08, 2006 at 09:56 AM
No one in my office seems to have a clue who Sink is, nor do they care. All gonna be Tom Lee votes here, except for one, she always votes for the "D". So here that is 14 to 1.

First of all you do not plan on voting for Tom Lee, you are totally contradicting yourself.
And he will WIN!!!!!
Posted by: | September 08, 2006 at 11:05 AM
Mark my words, that is not her first crossover endorsement. And all of you bashing Milligan for endorsing Sink, I remember not long ago Tom Lee was a Democrat endorsing Democratic candidates. Maybe he can get some crossover votes from the Democrats. Hah!
Posted by: | September 08, 2006 at 03:40 PM
If I was the Lee staff I would stay off of the blogs, and get to work. You have 60 days to try to win all of Randy Johnson's supporters - and try to also get enough Democrats that are going to swing for Charlie, but not for you.
Posted by: | September 08, 2006 at 03:42 PM
Looks like he is getting the D votes already. Way to go Tom. Keep up the good work.
Posted by: | September 08, 2006 at 03:52 PM
Bob Crawford has endorsed Lee
Bob Crawford and Kathrine Harris were business partners as well as thieves when they BOTH stole Election 2000
he is no DEMOCRAT he is a Thug and A Thief = GOP

headline should be...
MILLIGAN SINKS ALEX!
Posted by: | September 09, 2006 at 08:46 AM
General Gilligan endorsed Alex Sink because she looks like MaryAnn and her husband looks like the Skipper.
