Sharpton Weighs In
Residents in black communities are receiving recorded "robo" calls from Al Sharpton, who criticizes Jim Davis for the Pitts and Lee vote in 1990.
The issue came up Monday morning during a small gathering with African American men at the Orlando home of Kevin Samuels, a commercial insurance broker and second cousin of U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings. "I sat there and listened to days of testimony and I don't think the case was made. The evidence wasn't presented," Davis told the group, adding he was going to review the case. "If I made a mistake, I’ll be the first to say I made a mistake. It was a very difficult vote. It was a gut wrenching time for me."
Rufus Hawkins II, a student at Valencia Community College, said he got the Sharpton call Sunday night. He said he thinks Pitts and Lee had a strong case, but was satisfied with how Davis responded. "All of us have made mistakes and somewhere along the line we have to get second chances," Hawkins said.
UPDATE: Davis' camp just sent out e-mail saying U.S. Rep. John Lewis of Georgia has made his own robo call in support of Davis. (Davis, meanwhile, is working the crowd at a Labor Day gathering in Daytona Beach. He's now headed to Tampa for an event, then is off for the Miami-FSU game.)

I wonder if Al Sharpton has ever even met Jim Davis. I don't think he even bothered to check that Jim Davis has a 90% voting record from the NAACP. REverend Sharpton surely hasn't given any thought to the biblical instruction to "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." I wonder who is paying for this call? Haven't we Florida Democrats had enough of Republicans and other outsiders meddling in our Florida Democratic Primary?
Just say NO to the outside influences.

Rod Smith:
Do you even care if a Democrat wins? Or is it you or nobody?
Rod, you've gone from great candidate to joke to complete asshole in about two weeks.
If I could, I'd vote against you twice, you selfish prick.

"Primary election eve, 2006
Dear Self,
We really, really need to look interested when we visit people today. The little people need to be convinced that we care. And don't forget, big Al Sharpton is watching for one more day. New paragraph...
Maybe I should say that I've ben fighting "the Bushes" for the last few years. That's real good, Jim. Next paragraph...
But do NOT look elitist, squint, or shake your head "no" at the same time you are answering "yes" to a question.
Good talk, self.
Jim"

it's hilarious that Al Sharpton is now working with the Smith campaign. Honestly laughable. We'll see how that works out for you on Wed, Rod.

If Rod Smith wins, I will be voting for Charlie Crist and I have heard a lot of Democrats state the same thing.
Jim Davis is our only shot in 2006!
Go Jim!

Al Sharpton is a big mouthed, racist, ignorant fearmongering blow hard. He needs to crawl back under his usual rock up north.

Who is John Lewis???? He is only a civil right pioneer and advocate. He also a senior Congressman from Atlanta. He is respected pillar of the community and Sharpton is a joke. All you Sugar Squader out there that want to race bait your time is up.

If Reverend Sharpton is such a good christian, why is he campaigning for the candidate who sold out for four million dollars to a special interest that is polluting this precious earth. Where are Reverend Sharpton's Chritian Morals? God gave us this earth to protect it not to pollute it.

Justin
Yeah, and if you could, you'd move out of your mom's house and get a girlfriend.
But just like voting twice, you can't do that either.

Davis may be a nice guy, but he will never beat Crist because he is cut from the same cloth that the left keeps losing on. You idiots better realize that if you want to knock out the Repubs, Smith is your best chance. Once again you show the Florida citizen of why the Dems keep losing. Your leadership needs a lot of help.

Sharpton made me make my mind up as soon as he got involved. I am voting for Rod Smith.

Sharpton is a thug. He incited a race riot over the Twaya Brawley hoax and innocent Jews were murdered. He's a pig and a leech of the first degree. His own race should denounce him for the scumbage he is.

I apologize for the typos. Here it is anew:
Sharpton is a thug. He incited a race riot over the Tawana Brawley hoax and innocent Jews were murdered. He's a pig and a leech of the first degree. The good Black race should denounce him at the top of their lungs for the scumbag he is.

Sharpton exploits his own race. On the great chain of being he is a parasite living off the misery and dregs of the poor Blacks. He is nothing but a two bit pimp working the streets that he's already left arid.

I will take the leadership of Jim Davis over Republican, Race Baiter Rod Smith & pal Al Sharpton ANY day. Thank goodness that day will begin at 7:01pm September 5.

Just got home from the game (Go Noles) and am going to get about 4 hours sleep before I go to put up signs ay all the precincts in Coral Gables.
I don't care much for Sharpton's involvement in this race either.
I think Rod should distance himself from this guy.
