Big Signs, Bigger Controversy
Charlie Crist calls it "good advertising." Democrats say Crist "has no respect for the law."
They're both talking about something that has literally grabbed voters' attention: the display of two giant Republican Party banners featuring Crist that Tampa officials say are illegal under the city sign code. But since scofflaws have 30 days to take down an illegal sign, those Crist banners can stay put through Election Day and nobody can do a thing about it. But a similar oversized sign in St. Petersburg could land Crist and the GOP in hot water.
Shrewd political timing -- or outright arrogance? The full story here.

Gotta love Charlies response to his illegal signs:
"Charlie Crist says he likes the way he looks, dominating downtown Tampa’s landscape on giant banners placed two blocks apart.
It looks like good advertising to me,”
GENIUS

This banner episode just shows that, like President Bush, Charlie Crist thinks he is above the law.
This election will show that Floridians prefer a Governor who supports the rule of law over "good advertising."

The signs are great...in a Saddamesque kind of way. A lot of ordinary people are pulling away from the republican party because the pattern of arrogance has gone too far. These bighead signs are a wake-up call.

Tree hugger,
You act like its changing minds, your mind was already made up, you are a partisan democrat, so you hate it, so you WANT it to change minds.
That does not make it happen.

I had a self described independent thinking Republican call me yesterday expressing her outrage , particularly with the second sign. She had been leaning Crist but is now firmly for Davis.
Where there's one there are always more.

What escapes me is that Charlie serves as the Attorney General. Should he not be the example of law rather than the exception to the rule?

As governor, Charlie won't need veto power if he has absolute power.
All Hail Charles the First, King of Florida!
I was tired of thinking for myself anyway.

Between the Tribune's endorsement and now the 2 Mao-sized signs, I'm thinking both are a strategic assist to home-town-boy Davis!

The signs helped me make up my mind. I'll vote for Davis.

As an independent who usually laughs at both Democrats and Republicans, I think the Republicans are taking the sign thing to an obnoxious extreme. I thought the purpose of advertising is to turn people on, not off. The Emperor seems to lost his clothes and no one has told him.

The signs have worked perfectly. Do you actually think that the Manchurian Candidate (Crist) wasn’t completely aware of this? Not only was he aware, it is part of the plan. Why does it not matter? Because the idiot voters will forget all about it within 15 minuets after the election results hit their TV screen.
The R’s will show up, the D’s won’t (AS USUAL) and Crist wins this by 8%. The R’s will take 80% of the races simply due to a wonderfully played and calculated plan.
We’re about 6 days away from the final (Rove) move. Once that happens, it’s all over boys and girls.

the lawless attorney general...

I think the signs would be cuter with Charlie in a pink thong and go go boots!

I was thinking a game of solitare would be nice...

Hypothetical mutterings from a Stonewall: "Davis...yeah, Davis. Crist is kinda cute...no DAVIS. Crist...hmmmm...Crist...NO!...Davis. Termie said 'pink thong'and Crist is really cute...no,no,no...maybe Davis in a thong...

This all goes back to Clinton with what do you mean is 'is'.

Every politician looks for loopholes to get the better advantage. If Davis would have thought about this first Charlie would be screaming foul. Just because Charlie was smart enough to do it you shouldn't be upset.

Davis would have to find supports to allow him to put the signs up on their buildings and that’s where his problem is lies.
Posted by: | October 27, 2006 at 10:59 AM
These sign just show that Charlie is a thinker and willing to look at thing differently than others. Some people like Davis think yard signs others think 90 X 60 temporary signs.
I just hope this is the way Charlie looks at everything like the budget, taxes and insurance, how can the state get the biggest bang for it's buck.
