Buchanan's bucks
Republican Congressional District 13 candidate Vern Buchanan threw another $700,000 of his own money into his race against Democrat Christine Jennings this week. That brings to $1.57-million from Buchanan in the general election and $3.6-million all told. From the Jennings campaign:
"Despite outspending his opponent by 4-to-1 and getting fundraising help from high-profile Washington politicians, Buchanan continues to be hampered by the baggage of numerous business scandals and lawsuits, and continues to trail in the polls. History has also proven that the vast majority of self-funded candidates lose their elections, as the need to pour in so much personal wealth is a strong sign of a troubled candidate. Said Jennings press secretary Kathy Vermazen, “No matter how much Vern spends to buy this seat, it will be a losing investment for him – voters are simply fed up with the politics as usual that he represents.” "

It won't be a surprise if Vern loses this safe GOP seat. In addition to Vern's own problems, the GOP has lost its soul. From Katherine Harris' ethical challenges to Mark Foley's disgraceful actions (and the GOP leadership's failure to act), here in Fla. to Bob Ney and Duke Cunningham's guilty pleas, they have become in just 12 years the party of corruption (it took the Dems 40 yrs. to get this bad). Add on top of that the fact that the GOP congress and President Bush have wrecklessly spent taxpayer dollars causing government spending to increase at never before seen rates, national debt and deficit at record highs, and more government entitlements we cant afford (Medicare Rx program), and it is no wonder the GOP is going to get its a** handed to it next month. Oh, and lets not forget the parties lack of substantive action on immigration reform. The GOP will get the lesson it deserves next month. Unfortunately we'll all have to pay the consequences with the Dems. in charge for at least two years.

Vern Buchanan is the type of Republican who will fit just fine into the Republican culture of corruption in Washington. I beleive the people of Florida's 13th Congrssional District have had enough of being embarred by their representative in Congess. After all, they have been represented by Kooky Katherine Harris for the past 4 years.
Christine Jennings is the candidate that the voters can be proud of, not embarresed by.

Realpolitics.com shows this as a real horse race which means Jennings is in trouble. Unless she sees the DNCC put in hundreds of thousands, she is going to lose. As an unknown, she won't be able to compete with Vern. If he continues with the family commercials and ignores her kooky baggage commercials, he will win.
Sorry Dems, this is not a seat you will take unless you put your money where your mouth is.

Buchanan is a disgrace to the Grand Old Party. Lincoln must be turning over in his grave to see this narrow minded petty bigot running as a Republican.

buchanan knows that, with all the corruption in d.c., he will receive an enormous return on his investment. he knows that he will have to mouth pietistic nonsense to secure his cover with the evangelical idiots.

That, too, 11:13.

10:18:
".....narrow minded petty bigot running as a Republican."
Definition of Bigot: A bigot is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of any opinions differing from their own.
Can you back your statement up with facts, or just name calling?
As a member of Mr. Buchanan's church who considers him an aquaitance...
FYI to all: 1) In the METV debate the President of the Bradenton Herald said "Christine, you have called Mr. Buchanan currupt and to be honest, I have looked over all this files and buisness dealings and have not found anything which would lead me to the word currupt"
2) Vern DESTROYED Christine in the METV Debate. Watch it, it is playing nationally on every CSPAN channel.
3) Christine has let the DCCC and DPOF hijack her campaign... She is using a well formulated campaign speech and uses non-stop Washington Democrat talking points. For example on the METV debate when she said she supported CAFE standards and she didn't even know what it stood for. I quote here:
Christine: "I would support the cafe standards"
Bradenton Herald interrupts her: "Christine could you please explain what the CAFE standards are for our viewers"
Christine (looks into the live TV camera and says): "Um...Uhhh...They are...Uhh...Actually, I don't even know"
Why is does this matter, because I assume she printed out a page on energy and read a line or two from John Kerry or Nancy Pelosi (who ever was at the drivers seat on that issue) showing proof of her DCCC talking points only message....
I urge all of you to seek your own information and take a look at the debate either on METV or CSPAN (you can call both to find otu when it will be played). Then you will find out that it would be a disaster to have Christine Jennings, Liberal-Left controlled, with no college degree, who is also not even just pro-gay on issues but is actually gay herself, representing us. We just witnessed what happened with Foley, this is not a political, Dem vs. Repub issue, there are people in each party that are at fault... Just like on Dateline's "To catch a predator" this is a cultural issue. And how do we fix it? Elect someone pro-family, with religious values. Foley lacked both and so does Christine.

Hey ConservaGal, if this is campaign is a horse race, that is GOOD for Jennings. A "horse race" means it is competive. This district SHOULD NOT be competitive -- it SHOULD be a GOP lock. You are basically an idiot and don't understand politics. The GOP is in trouble in this race -- for two reasons 1) Buchanan is a seriously flawed candidate and 2) the GOP leadership (can you call it that) in D.C. (on the Hill and the White House) is full of a bunch of people who will say and do anything for power. Oh yeah, they are called politicians. And they all suck and the Republicans among them are about to have their asses handed to them. Power corrupts --Democrat or Republican.

THE TRUTH is just another bullying evangelical lunatic who excuses all manner of moral abominations in the name of party loyalty, which apparently means everything to that idiot.

DNCC should be DCCC.

And we Dems proucly call our state party the Florida Democratic Party or, FDP.
We are NOT the DPOF, or anything remotely close to the RPOF.

The Republicans have finally find a problem they can't solve by throwing more money at it: Themselves. There are some stains you can't wash out, no matter how much bleach and detergent you buy. And there's no shortage of corruptions, scandals and coverups, no matter how much the corporations and lobbyists spend. Voters have finally realized they need to hold accountable the Republicans who hold firm power over this country and state.

My, my, my. A little touchy aren't we 9:21? Resorting to name calling in the absence of fact?. Feeling the pressure? How about using argument rather than juvenile name calling to justify your position. I guess that makes posting a problem for you though.
Had you been following this race closely, you would have known that Jeenings has been talking about how she's dominating the polls since after the primary, which she isn't anymore. Therefore, the whole horserace issue does come into play. Not only that, but she isn't funded enough to win a horse race. I also am hearing from operatives down there that something is about to come out about her regarding her talking out of both sides of her mouth. She is not going to win. She has too much against her.
