Busansky fixates on Foley & Insurance, GOP on Warner
Phyllis Busansky escalated the offensive on GOP opponent Gus Bilirakis this week, unleashing attacks on Bilirakis' response to the Foley scandal (see full story ), and the property insurance crisis in a second television ad and a unsubtly-named new blog at: www.gusisnotforus.com.
Meanwhile, Republicans pounced on Busansky for hosting a fundraiser Wednesday headlined by Former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner -- dubbing the likely Democratic Presidential contender "the tax man."
"By campaigning with tax-hiking Mark Warner today, Phyllis Busansky is sending a clear signal that Ninth District taxpayers can’t afford to send her to Congress," said the statement from Alex Burgos, spokesperson for the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Frankly, that's a stupid line of attack by the Republicans. If voters know who Warner is, he is known as a business friendly Democrat who won in a "red" state.
This is an example of an idea crafted at 3 o'clock in the morning and having been sent out without having been properly vetted first.

oh my gosh, that ad is horribly. she sounds so staged and grating. ugh. wah wah wah.
Posted by: | October 06, 2006 at 04:15 PM
Bilirakis could star as Fred in the re-make of the Flintstones. He talks like Fred, looks like Fred, walks like Fred and dresses like Fred.
They keep him muzzled because when he opens his trap, it is anybody's guess what will come out. His TV interviews are pathetic. He appears as if he is the "C" student running for student council president, with not much more than a surface knowledge of the issues.
It is a sad commentary on the Republican Party that Bilirakis Jr. is the only candidate they could cough up.
Yabba, Dabba, Do!!!!

Apparently, Phyllis can only speak in tag intervals with heavy rehearsal. Nice try, I’d give her an E for effort... but not enough to beat Gus.
By the way, get some new faces and fire the ad company. Should we expect a helicopter in the next one?

4:20...
You're kidding right.. The sad commentary is that the best the Dems could scrounge up is a retread candidate who hasn't served in public office since, um, well, since the Flinstone age..
Posted by: | October 06, 2006 at 04:43 PM
And also, that blog is so cheap.. I mean c'mon. Can't the dems afford a decent attack web site. The video takes forever to load and .pdfs i-framed so small you can't even read them.
Really cheap site, Phyllis. If you are gonna attack someone, at least do it right.

If you think about for a minute, if Thurma-Flu hadn’t dumped Rublee for Phyllis Diller – Bilirakis and Rublee would look like Fred and Barney.
The insurance exploitation is starting to get old. The bottom line is… they suck, you such too, they fund him, they fund her, they fund everyone… so… basically it’s a bunch of lip service and nothing substantive will actually be done.
Posted by: | October 06, 2006 at 04:51 PM
Anyone have a link to a pic of Greg Rublee. I want to enjoy Fred and Barney in all of their splendor.
Posted by: | October 06, 2006 at 04:59 PM
really, does anybody remember Greg Rublee? He was "forcibly" encouraged to step aside for better known read better funded Phyllis 'Diller" Busansky.
Local Dems may have pushed aside the younger better suited candidate just to suit their own whim. Run Phyllis run

I think the site is great and it is nice that she is calling Gus on his terrible record.
Posted by: | October 06, 2006 at 05:07 PM
Fred - Bilirakis Jr
Wilma - Busansky
Barney - Buchanan
Betty - Pelosi
Bamm Bamm - Foley
Pebbles - Caole Jean
Mr. Slate - Hastert
Babby Puss - Harris
Dino - Negron (comes when called)

I couldn't even get it to play...came up with an error message. Notice to all Dem candidates: don't use the teh Web Design Group. They obviously don't know what they are doing.
The site is pathetic in design, obviously sucks in functionality(see above comment), and the colors are harsh and cold. Exactly what one would expect from a Dem like the Bus(sorry, Jerome Bettis.)

So Gus - when would it be convenient for you to start protecting our children? Seems that Foley started in Tallahassee - where you're just coming from.
When will the Republican candidates put our CHILDREN AHEAD of their lousy campaigns? Why do Republicans continue to FEED THE CHILDREN TO THE PREDATORS in DC?

This commercial might change Gus Bilirakis lead in the Newschannel 8 poll from 29 points to 30. No matter how good they try to make her look,Bulldog's voice only helps Gus earn more votes.
Go Bullbog Busansky Go

Hey Maverick, in case you were wondering, the company in charge of the videos that you are having problems viewing is called YouTube ( http://www.youtube.com/ ). People watch over 70 million videos on the site daily ( http://www.youtube.com/t/about ). I'm sure they have their share of problem videos, but sometimes, the problem is in between the keyboard and the chair.
Posted by: | October 06, 2006 at 07:03 PM
I agree on the Gus's polling numbers going up. Rumor has it that Republicans tend to vote based upon the way a person's voice sounds, not based on how good of a job they'll do.
Posted by: | October 06, 2006 at 07:07 PM
My homeowner's insurance premium went up 80% this year. Last year it went up 83%. I guess that the good news is that my homeowner's insurance policy hasn't been cancelled....yet.
When are you die hard Republicans going to wake up and see the damage that has been done to ALL of us by the Republican party?
The sad thing is that we will all go down together. "The Divider" has only succeeded in pushing our nation to the brink of disaster.
The domino will touch all of us and when that happens, we will be forced to work together. We will all have to sacrifice to fix the mess that you helped to create.
I hope that we are strong enough to overcome the elimination of the middle class, not to mention the deliberate erosion of Democracy itself.

5:18,
I don't think you want to go down the road of asking which Party is focused on protecting children and which is placing their "lousy campaigns" ahead of child safety. CREW has had the "goods" on Foley since APRIL! They did not take this evidence to the House leadership! They did not take it to the authorities (at least not in it's entirety so that they could nail him). They did not even take it to the media! We could have had this dirt bag Foley out of there 6 months ago, but your side chose to leave children at risk so that you could get out of discussing issues this fall! That is LOUSY!

This blog is ridiculous. Anybody notice Phyllis uses Gus's name so much it could be his damn commercial. She is a washed up has been. Gus is a nice guy, you aren't going to get people to vote for you by attacking him, you need to tell what is so good about you and why you deserve my vote.

I am familiar with Youtube. I have watched many things on their site with no problems. Until I ran into an idiotic Dem site that didn't know how to properly copy and paste the code onto the page.
And your theory on the computer problem being between the keyboard and the chair was proven by you very well.
Posted by: Maverick | October 06, 2006 at 11:23 PM
Apparently, telling what is good about themselves and why they deserve our vote is quite a problem for Dems. Issues kill 'em every time.

11:09 WRONG and because you spew lies - you're a goner.

Pray tell what has Gue told us that should make us vote for him? Hi, I'm Gus and my Dad was the Congressman, so elect me too?
Gus has been in the legislature while the insurance industry has preyed on Florida's property insurance payers. While that has been going on, Gus has been standing up with his hand out to the insurance industry for campaign contributions. He should have been standing up for us, not his campaign war chest.
Posted by: Gene Smith | October 07, 2006 at 05:18 AM
I will tell you what he has done. He has treated me with respect each and every time I've been to see him on an issue (and I don't belong to his party). I belong to a group that raises private dollars for public education and he helped us get 2.5 million dollars. He filed legislation in the House to help with the insurance crisis- it didn't pass because though no one wants to admit it- there is no simple solution to this problem. He's a REALLY nice guy, very humble. Its a shame people on this site try to make it about the way he looks or talks or his disabilities instead of what really matters.
Posted by: liberal101 | October 07, 2006 at 08:17 AM
8:17 you said it - private education fund raiser. Was Gussie figuring out how he's going to take $$ from public schools and give to private education aka private schools without any accountability.
As a state legislator - that's the only thing he was helping you with - and in case you and Gus missed it - THERE WILL BE NO SCHOOL VOUCHERS IN FLORIDA
Unless of course you've hired Gussie to be your personal fund raiser - but then the ? goes to what was Gus doing with his time on my dime? Was he busy exploring ways to help home insurance problems for constituents?
Posted by: | October 07, 2006 at 09:25 AM
If you have ever met Gus he is a sincere and genuine guy. OK, maybe he is not suave but dammit, at least he's not mean spirited like bulldog.
BTW - the Flintstones bit is getting old although Barney Rubble was the most honest, loyal friend in the show. You could always believe and count on Barney...so thanks for the compliment!

This has become such a sad race, especially for Phyllis. I used to think she was decent, but some of the things she has said about Gus in private just shows she is a mean, mean, vulgar lady

There is a MYTH that Democrats don't have money, that is false. Old money and many of the weathiest in America are Democrats. The difference, this old money stays among the Democat "elites" they dont spend it on anyone not part of the elite and they definitely dont spend it on thier non elite "minority" base. This hypocrisy is obvious as every election cycle you hear of a feud where black democrats complain they don't get dollars spent on their efforts, yet they vote 90% democratic. Lets hope the black community will start waking up and learning their America history to better understand why, the Democratic party is simply put, the party of Slavery in American history. Over and over again Black democrats experience a lack of investment, their vote is taken for granted, the message vote, just dont expect anything else, your simple not part of the elite. So how much longer will it take for Black Democrats to start learning this.

I agree with 11:15.. Gus is an incredibly nice guy. Attacking him by saying nasty things about the way he looks, talks and his disabilities just comes off as schoolyard bully tactics.
Phyllis "Retread" Busansky is making a mistake, thinking she doesn't have to build name recognition. She does. She needs adds that talk about her accomplishments. She needs to get voters thinking about why they should vote for her. Instead of trying to convince them not to vote for Gus.
Posted by: | October 07, 2006 at 07:51 PM
Bulldog Busansky shouldn't spend any of her money telling us good things about herself or her accomplishments. Bulldog should continue to try to convince voters that Gus Bilirakis is very bad person. I think she should spend all of her money convincing Republicans not to vote for Gus. She should continue to put commercials on TV that mention his name 3 times for every one time she mentions her own.
Go Bulldog Go

Thank you, Liberal101, for speaking the truth. Too bad all the Congressional and Florida House wannabes in the Tampa Bay area haven't taken your course!

9.25- I don't think you understand the comment you were responding to. I am an independent who is supporting Gus because he SUPPORTS public education-not private education. He voted against vouchers and A++ and he raises PRIVATE $ to give to PUBLIC EDUCATION.
Posted by: 007 | October 08, 2006 at 10:07 PM
Im sure all of you thought Foley was an "incredibly nice guy" too...
