GOP Picks Negron

State Rep. Joe Negron, R-Stuart, is the unanimous choice of the Republican Party's executive board to replace former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley in the 16th Congressional district. The vote came Monday afternoon in a meeting at the Hyatt at Orlando International Airport.

"I am pleased with the Party's choice," said U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez. "Representative Negron is a man of integrity and he will represent Floridians with honor."

Negron, who turns 45 next week, faces Democrat Tim Mahoney, a wealthy businessman and former Republican from Palm Beach Gardens. It will be a difficult challenge for the Republican, having only five weeks for the entire campaign and forced to run in a race in which Foley's name will remain on the ballot. But the district has a history of performing well for Republican candidates.

Comments

"Hi, I'm Joe Negron. You have no idea who I am, but if you vote for the child molester on the ballot you'll get me to represent you in DC. Hope I can count on your support!"

Good luck.

what a suicide mission this will be.

what are you thinking joe ?

fellow republican-

Very sad...I feel for badly for Joe because he is a good guy, and I cannot see a way for a Republican to be elected in that district after the mess Foley has made there, especially when Foley's name is still on the ballot.

God Choice, 3:07 you clrealyhave no idea what you are talking about, Negron has greater name id than the other Guy and most people, while disgusted by Foley have indicated they would support a Foley replacement as they don't blame him for Foley's stupidity, as for People not realizing a vote for Foley will be a vote for Negron, nonsense, the local and national media is all over this, in a ironic way the salaciousness of this whole thing is giving major media coverage to the Foley Replacement for FREE

Steve -Was Charlie at this meeting? Did you by chance ask him his opinion on his former roomate, friend and campaign supporter?

Why wont you guys ask these questions? This is important stuff. CC should have already come out and said I am ashamed of Rep. Foley. When we were roomates I did not see any funny business going on. As AG I am going to open up an investigation to see if the Rep has violated any state laws.

How does this election work? If you want to vote for Negron do you write in his name or vote for Foley?

Who's Joe Negron? Was he a roomate of Mark and Charlie?

Joe Negron is an awesome guy! That said, I wish he would not get try to get elected like this. I would prefer if people wrote his name in and not this whole a vote for Foley is a vote for Negron.

Joe is a GREAT guy - his only challenge is education Palm Beach COunty voters. Wow, he's got a big hill to climb!

*educating

Nobody will ever question Charlie. There has never been a politician given so many passes in the U.S history.

Republicans should be required to lose this seat. What this man did makes me sick and makes me want to switch parties. Why are the Repubs trying to even claim this seat. Instead of voting for Negron there should be a white out campaign. Where everybody covers Foley's name with Whiteout. We need to send a message to our Legislatures. I dont care if that means we lose control of the House. After this debacle we deserve too. How can the future pages and teens that are interning and working in the democratic process ever trust that a legislator will not violate their trust. As a parent this is appalling. Negron is a good man but why would you want this tainted seat anyways. Negron should wait two years and run for a clean one. Who knows how many children have been sitting in anyways. Negron do the right thing and dont even run. Wait it out. Congress isnt going anywhere.

Thanks Joe-
This was your decision and we wish you the best. Now, let's focus on:

ROONEY IN '08

The three-member House Page Board has one Democrat on it, Dale Kildee.

His latest statement:

"In my 21 years as a Member of the House Page Board, every decision has been made on not just a bi-partisan basis but on a non-partisan basis, with our main concern always being the safety and wellbeing of the young teenagers who serve the U.S. House as pages.

"I was outraged to learn that the House Republican leadership kept to itself the knowledge of Mr. Foley's despicable behavior toward the House Pages.

"I am now equally outraged to learn that Republican House Speaker Dennis Hastert announced today that there will be changes in the policies of the House Page program. Once again, I was not informed of the meeting today, nor was I consulted in any way about any proposed changes.

"And once again, the House Republican leadership is following the same pattern of unilateral decision-making that caused this problem in the first place in the Mark Foley issue. Speaker Hastert's announcement this afternoon is yet another example of the House Republican leadership being more concerned with finding political cover for themselves than with the safety and wellbeing of the House pages."

The House leadership doesn't give a damn about those pages. It only cares about damage control. Otherwise, it would work with Kildee to truly find ways to protect those House pages from sexual predators and other dangers they might face.

But remember, this is the same Republican leadership that looked the other way rather than risk spending a few million to defend Foley's House seat. Politics always, always, trumps everything else for these Republicans.

It even trumps the safety of teenage House pages.

Update: So much so, that they even tried to cajole ABC News into their coverup.

On Friday afternoon, a strategist for Rep. Mark Foley tried to cut a deal with ABC's Brian Ross.

The correspondent, who had dozens of instant messages that Foley sent to teenage House pages, had asked to interview the Florida Republican. Foley's former chief of staff said the congressman was quitting and that Ross could have that information exclusively if he agreed not to publish the raw, sexually explicit messages.

"I said we're not making any deals," Ross recalls.

10-to-1, Negron wins it!

3:18 and 3:19

I am listening on talk radio to Brian Fasulo, and Foley was a close personal friend of his for years in FL, (not D.C.) and he is being honest saying he had no clue about Foley.

Nor does he buy the alcoholic story. He is giving a pretty good analysis, and is openminded.

3:31 Aint MIRACULOUS CONVERSIONS "GRAND" or one could say "10-GRAND", couldn't resist the pun.

HERE IS THE KEY QUESTION:

"Mr. Negron: if elected, what will you do to make sure the current republican leadership who clearly and plainly knew of these charges and the criminal behavior of Mr. Foley for some considerable time before the matter became public are held responsible for thier malfeasance and nonfeasance?

Will you take it upon yourself to see those responsible are stripped of all positons of power in the house?

or will you simply go along to get along?"

I've met joe Negron, he's a good guy and he deserves to win that seat.

GOP member of Page Board contradicts Hastert and Shimkus, says Foley emails were clear evidence of a problem, not just simply "overly friendly"
by John in DC - 10/02/2006 03:29:00 PM

Not only that, but they never told her about the Foley emails.

From the Charleston (WV) Gazette:
Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., says she was not told about suggestive e-mails that a Florida congressman sent to a 16-year-old former Capitol page, even though she is one of three representatives who oversee the page program....

Several high-ranking House Republicans have known about the e-mails for months, including Rep. John Shimkus, R-Ill., chairman of the House Page Board.

Late last year, Shimkus met with Foley about the e-mails. But Shimkus never told Capito or the board’s other member, Rep. Dale Kildee, D-Mich., about them until Friday, according to all three.

“There’s only three of us on the page board. I feel that we should have been informed,” Capito said. “I’m absolutely disgusted by what I’m hearing. I was caught totally unaware.”

Foley sent the e-mails to a former page from Louisiana about one year ago. Foley wrote, “send me an email pic of you as well” and “what do you want for your birthday coming up?” according to ABC News.

Foley also comments on another page, saying he “acts much older than his age...and he’s in really good shape.”

The teen forwarded the e-mails to someone else and wrote, “Maybe it is just me being paranoid, but seriously. This freaked me out,” and that one e-mail was “sick, sick, sick, sick, sick.”

Capito said she would have been very concerned if she had read those e-mails.

“I don’t think it would pass the sniff test,” she said. “Even asking those questions — that is not normal between a 52-year-old adult and a 16-year-old. It’s not like they’re family friends or anything. I think it would raise some serious questions. But I wasn’t given that opportunity.”

Late last year, Shimkus and former House Clerk Jeff Trandahl met privately with Foley to talk about the e-mails. They did not tell the other House Page Board members or launch an investigation.

“My evaluation was there’s no smoking gun here,” Shimkus told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper. “At the time, that e-mail had no significance ... other than ‘Mark, stay away from this kid; this doesn’t look good.’”

Shimkus added: “I think, based on the information I had, what I did was fine. If I regret something, maybe I should have had Dale [Kildee] with me because now it’s going to be a political football.”

Shimkus said he did not know about sexually explicit instant messages that Foley allegedly sent to a former page. According to ABC News, one asked, “Do I make you a little horny?” and another said, “You in your boxers, too? ... Well, strip down and get relaxed.”

Capito said she heard about the explicit e-mails and instant messages from the media. She heard Friday afternoon that Foley resigned and then found Shimkus waiting for her in her office. That’s when she discovered that Shimkus and other Republican House leaders already knew about some of the e-mails, she said.

“I was astounded he knew about this before,” Capito said. “I thought they were as surprised as I was.”

Friday night, Capito and Shimkus went to visit the pages, who stay in a Washington dorm.

__________

YES, in the past, people from both sides of the aisle have been involved in and done some pretty reprehensible things. unfortunately, that was then, this is now. remember, at one time, it was perfectly acceptable that black people would gladly sit in the back of the bus, too.
fortunately, times have changed, generally for the better.

THIS IS REPREHENSIBLE!!
leaders knew and did NOTING!!
NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING and now they LIE about it!!

Is Joe Negron the criminal defense attorney? Maybe he can help Foley deal with the FBI, while Foley gives Joe tips on the District.

It won't be an easy sell, but if anyone can do it, it's Negron.

I don't know what makes you all think Negron has a chance. How much money does he have? Zilch! You can't get elected to Congress with a 5 week campaign... just not gonna happen!

Negron for Congress
"A vote for the pedophile is a vote for ME!"

Yes, Joe Negron is a criminal defense attorney. Great choice.

3:29 I couldn't agree more. When an elected official does something heinous, he should be requird to resign - as Mark did - and his Party should forfeit the seat.

Now who do you suppose is going to run for U.S. Senate in Mass. when the drunk driver-who-let-his-passenger-drown-while-he-called-his-people-to-spin-the-story-instead-of-getting-help resigns?

"lemme finish markie's unfinished business!!"

tee-hee!

a vote for negron is simply a vote for the liars in pubbie leadership who did KNOW and did NOTHING!!

"ve vere only followink orders!"

"ve knew not'ing!"

it doesnt work any more!!

4:05, What the hell are you drinking? How can you possible make such an ignorant statement? The butt-pirate just got dumped, Negron jumps in… and you say that he deserves to win the seat. You know, you Kool-aid drinkers would vote Osama president if he was a Republican… TODAY!

Damn, no wonder we’re so screwed up.

4:53 Point conceded, osama on the republican side would get 35% of the vote.

But you could also put Osama on the democrat ticket, and he would get 35% of the vote.

There are hyperpartisans on both sides.

While I wouldn't be surprised that Republicans would go to the voting booth and pull a lever for a pedophile- after all, they elected Jeb,Delay,Ney,K. Harris, W, etc- why would they want to hurt Negron's chances for any future in Florida politics? He doesn't have a prayer when our DCCC pours money into that race; a race that the national Republicans have given up on.

negron takes one for the GOP team, and the GOP rewards him later. that's how it works, and that's one reason the GOP dominates.

snickering to myself about how Republicans have to pull the lever for Foley to help Negron win... the Dems rib, "pull the lever for the pedophile..."

Wouldn't be the first time, let's just ask the people who elected Democrat Congressman Studds of Massachusetts for nearly 12 more years after his 1983 wrist slap for actually doing the deed with a 16 year old male House Page, then defending it at a press conference that they were "consenting adults."

The Ds sure are long on silly criticism and shrill exaggeration of nonsense. They are equally SHORT on memory:

The drunk-driver-negligent homicide of (still sitting) Sen. Ted Kennedy;

The actualy fornication by the (maybe) aptly named Rep. Studds with a boy.

So let's not get too excited about Mark. After all, he just sent e-mails and IMs.

6:21--

Um, let's deal with the here-and-now and not things that took place 20 and 30 years ago. Foley deserves to lose his seat and he should be punished for soliciting a minor.

Sheesh. Republicans are so great at pointing the finger at Democrats; yet all they can do when THEY get caught with their pants down is...well, point the finger at Democrats. It's childish and it's getting very tiring.

6:42 - you guys can sure dish it out, but you can't take it...

The point, obviously lost on the more obtuse, is that one man (Foley) did wrong. To condemn his Party is silly partisan overkill and it is unfair.

Ah, but more than one man may well have done wrong. There is the whole issue of the House leadership sitting on this thing.

CONSERVATIVES are up in arms about this. Did you SEE Bay Buchanon on CNN today. She was LIVID at the House Leadership for not taking action when the emails first surfaced.

This is way more than just one man.

As long as Mark Foley is out of the picture, Joe Negron will be a natural shoe in just as long as Ralph Hughes continues to write him checks.

Latest Rasmussen poll (last one had Crist up 5 points)

Crist 54%
Davis 38%
Undecided 8%

This poll was taken after the Foley incident, and did not affect Crist as I predicted. Davis is all but finished. Read it and weep liberals.

charlie crist will be florida's first gay governor.

Did Joe Negron even want to be a Congressman? He was running for AG. I was hoping he wasn't one of those I will run for anything as long as I have a power seat somewhere...like Crist and Davis who I think are out of touch. They have been polticians so long they are far removed from constituents.

"You know, you Kool-aid drinkers would vote Osama president if he was a Republican… TODAY!"

I've met Mr. Negron. He is a good guy. I'm not a Republican, and I'm still voting for him.

if voters in Missouri can understand that by voting for a dead man, his wife would take his place. I'm certain voters in Florida will understand that it is not foley who will be elected, but a man of integrity, Joe Negron.

It's not a difficult concept for republicans; wish the media would stop making it seem so...
