Mahoney: Cowboy in S. Fla
Congressional candidate Tim Mahoney's newest TV commercial may be a first for South Florida Democrats: he shoots a gun.
The challenger who was facing Mark Foley, and is now facing Joe Negron, is running to represent a Republican-heavy district. Mahoney, a former Republican himself, has been touting himself as a pro-business, anti-corruption, family values man -- and a rancher.
The ad starts off with cut-outs of Tom DeLay, Bob Ney and Jack Abramoff, while declaring "Congress is a mess." Later, it shows Mahoney taking a practice shot (with a pow) and skewering a giant stack of barbecued ribs on a grill.

he's got a face for radio

That is not a cutout of Foley, doofus reporter. It is Tom Delay, Bob Ney and Abramoff.

Good fix.

The Reporter made an honest mistake. Give her a break.

I'm a huge Negron supporter, but have to admit this ad isn't bad. I still won't vote for him, but a decent ad nonetheless.

Church, Guns and ribs. Trying to pretend he's conservative. Good stuff.

352 - Sorry, MAdame Smith.

Is it just me, or are all of the "viable" democrats campaigning on faith and family values? Funny, they trash Republican's, but then steal their winning message.

4:02, who said the "Church, Guns, and Ribs”, are conservative issues. Believe it or not there are church going, gun toting, and rib eating Democrats out there. Maybe just maybe Tim is one of those Dems.

RBD,
What there are two Democrats running who are pro gun and church going? What is this world coming to? Oh wait I’ll save all you Repubs some time. “They aren’t really conservative pro-gun, church going Democrats right? They are pretending to be for politics.”
Posted by: Frank | October 12, 2006 at 04:44 PM
Yes, there are conservative, pro-gun, church-going democrats - they vote Republican - that's why there is such a HUGE domination by Republicans in Florida.

Nice ad.

Did Mahoney manage to hit anything?
Posted by: | October 12, 2006 at 05:52 PM
Lest everyone forgot....
The Reps stole the family values stance from the Dems. That is how they won over the state. By advertising so much on family values and education which used to be the Dems top positions.
So I do think with Tim, what you see is really what you get. He is a consservative Dem.
Karen Thruman needed to recruit more people like him to run in this state. Which is why Rod could have been the Dems answer. Too bad Davis' ego was too big and he wouldn't get behind Rod....the real conservative Dem who could have won. Too bad.

6:02 Where do you grow it?
Mahoney is a rich guy who couldn't get his campaign off the ground no matter how much moeny he put into it. Then he prodded an old page who had exchanged "overly friendly" e-mails with Foley and the media had a story. That resulted in a lot more pages coming forth and presto: Mahoney may have a chance to win because he's NOT Foley.
An opportunist like that running on family values? Like I said, where do you grow it?

That's funny: Democrats running as faux Republicans.

Have you never heard of the Blue Dog Democrats?
The leader of the Blue Dog conservative Democrats is about to become the new US Senator from Tennessee. Yep, Harold Ford, Jr.
Then there is Alan Boyd in the panhandle. Y'all tried real hard to beat him last cycle - How'd that work out for you?
And then there is Steve Gorham in State Senate Dist, 10. Another pro gun church going conservative Dem. And he is going to beat Raging Rhonda - like a drum as a matter of fact.
We Dems come in lots of different packages. No ditto heads here.

Yes, I've heard of Blue Dog Democrats. I've never heard of Alan Boyd. I like Ford. His victory in TN remains to be seen however. As does that of Gorham. I find it amusing the lengths some current Democrat candidates go to present themselves as conservative. Gorham's advertisements don't even mention party affiliation except in the fine print. As an IND I don't have that much problem with conservative Dems. It's the far left nutcases I can't stomach.

Let's see how amusing You find it when you wake up Nov 8th with the R's losing
50 House seats and 5 Senate seats
BTW those are the Republican internal numbers, not mine

Foley is my guy Im voting for him!!Run Charlie the 527 is cuming and you boys know it..Soft Pink Boots for truth!

6:02 here
Not growing anything. If I cared what bloggers taht I would be insulted by that reference.
As a registered Rep. I found myself voting absentee 50/50. It was the first time in many years.
Main reason is this: The process is too pulled to one side and the other side has many viable candidates.
Just think about what I stated earlier. It is the truth. If you had been around in years prior, you would know. You are simply showing your age....or ignorance.

How amused will you be when Charlie Crist is sworn in as Governor? Not to mention Lee, McCollum and Bronson winning their respective state races.
Posted by: Zhombre | October 12, 2006 at 09:41 PM
Mahoney was shooting at republican pedophiles, and it looks like it's not that hard to hit one of 'em.
Anyone who continues to call Foley's email "overly friendly" needs to look in the mirror. You're a pedophile too.
Because if you think it's okay to ask boys for their pictures, you got problems. You may even be an alcoholic!

Tim is full of Baloney!

6:02: Karen Thurman did recruit more Democrats like that around the state. But unforunately, a lot of them, like Bill Heller right here in Tampa, are getting a lot more heat from Democrats than Republicans. Remember, the Democrats here started a PAC and went out and pasted him for being not-Democrat enough, whatever that means. Fortunately, the voters were smart enough to pick the right person.
Hopefully the hard core will learn soon enough that it is better to win with someone you agree with 80% of the time than it is to fall on the sword of ideological purity.
