Smith calls on supporters to give $ to Davis
Rod Smith, runner up in the Democratic primary for governor, sent e-mail to supporters this morning asking them to contribute to his former rival:
"If we are going to keep working for our goal of real change for Florida, then we have to work to elect Jim Davis and Daryl Jones. Charlie Crist has already raised millions of dollars to defend the status quo. It's our responsibility to make sure Jim has the chance to get the message out there. I've told Jim that I will do whatever it takes to help him win in November and now I am asking you to do the same. Please consider making a contribution to Jim Davis and his campaign to bring our values and our vision of real change to Tallahassee. $25, $50, $100, $250, or even the $500 maximum will go a very long way."

How long did they have to beg Smith for this lame effort? A fundraising email this late? Ouch, somebody's hurtin'!

"even the $500 maximum will go a very long way." ... toward paying Davis' staff's salaries after he gets his butt whipped. It's too late to use that money for anything else - sad.

This must be one of Karen Thurmut's moves. Weak.

Is tg going to do the same for cc?
Posted by: | October 18, 2006 at 10:47 AM
Sorry Rod!
My support for Democrats extended as far as your run.
But when you decide to strap your helmet back on and get in the game, give me a call.

They're also promoting that Davis supporters utilize the VIVA Democracy system that the Smith campaign used. Got my note and I'll think about it but I am NOT PAYING FOR THE INADEQUATELY TRAINED/MANAGED STAFF.
Maybe I'll drop off a roll of stamps or two instead, or hell, I'll order some signs and put them up for the campaign since they've failed to do so.

Poor Jim. He, nor his staff, have learned any valuable lessons from this race. Sorry for Floridians everywhere.

As someone who thinks Jim Davis's campaign sucks but was glad he beat Republican Rod and his $5 million in sugar money, I'm glad Rod did this.
It shows more character than I thought Rod had.

DES PER A TION TIMES COME ON......
Oh the sweet sound of desperation.
3 weeks to GOVERNOR CRIST!!
Posted by: | October 18, 2006 at 11:01 AM
Geez, do you morons really prefer Charlie Crist to Jim Davis? Your guy didn't win so you are taking your ball and going home?
What a no cajones attitude. It takes much more intestinal fortitude to suck it up after a primary and support your party's nominee when you are on the short side of a primary.
The above posts show me that y'all are severely lacking in the cajones category. Wonder what else you may be lacking?

10:55, I think Rod showed character by refusing to beg for Davis until this late - too late to really help the campaign, but in time to at least make sure the staffers are ok.
Posted by: | October 18, 2006 at 11:18 AM
Anybody think this is in response to the news yesturday and today about Rods former staff supporting CC?
Posted by: | October 18, 2006 at 11:19 AM
Hey Gene incase you missed it - Jim won the primary. Hence it was Jim's job to unite the two campaigns and supporters. How many Smith staffers are now employed by the Davis campaign? How many Smith supporters were contacted by the Davis campaign?
How did that photo op in Gainesville go with Smith & Davis? How many Smith supporters did the Davis call to invite and celebrate the two candidates coming together? How much unifying has the Davis campaign done?
Is that Jim's fault. Not entirely, however his name is on the campaign and if the staff did a poor job of unifying, changes should have been made.
Note - did the Davis campaign purchase the rights to the Viva Democracy or did Smith donate this to the Davis campaign? just curious.

11:19, does anyone think this is NOT in response to yesterday's news?
Posted by: | October 18, 2006 at 11:28 AM
11:25
I think Davis' staff was too busy licking their wounds because they got jacked up in South Florida.
Yeah, I know, Davis won Broward (barely).
The Davis folks didn't want a bunch of the Smith folks, because they didn't want them to come in and make them look like they didn't know what the hell they were doing.
Posted by: moderate | October 18, 2006 at 11:31 AM
11:25--Viva Democracy is a company, it is not the property of ANY campaign.
Posted by: | October 18, 2006 at 11:33 AM
11:33 its a software program stupid out of California and campaigns have to buy the "rights" to utilize and set it up for their area. again, stupid.
Posted by: | October 18, 2006 at 11:39 AM
10:49--the Davis/Jones campaign DOES have signs now; they're at the Davis for Governor HQ in Tampa. Unluckily, they're those lame-assed bag ones that the Smith campaign used.
Sorry fellow Dems--I just can't stand those frigging bag signs. They are very low-rent IMNSHO.

Davis has no more "unity" or backing from Smith than Crist has from Gallagher. Difference is Crist doesn't need the endorsement or the money. Smith sounds insincere and that's just fine. The Dems shot themselves by having a nasty primary. Thus, they will lose large on 11/7, AS USUAL.

Hey, Mr. Anonymous 11:25
Where are those cajones at? I know Jim won the primary. I was there celebrating with him. So, I also know that he reached out to Rod Squadders right then and there. He was very gracious to Rod, and complimented him on his fine campaign. He even went so far as to exonerate Rod from any reposnibility for the Sugar Slimers.
But all you guys heard was "how sweet it is". And, yeah, it was sweet. It's still sweet.
You've got it backwards. Jim did reach out on election night. Korge and Butterworth showed up right away to pledge their support. I don't fault Rod for getting away to recuperate. It was a tough campaign, and believe me, I know how tough it is to lose.
But it is on the losing candidate to rally his supporters towards the winner. Rod is doing his part. I have no problem with him. It's you whiney no cajones dudes that give me gas.
Hire Rod's staff? What the hell for? So they can make more helicopter ads? So they can do debate prep? What is it that you think they did so well? How many of these turkeys are doing something for Charlie or Max Linn?
You know what? Just keep sitting there with your thumb up your as.. It's right where you belong.
And if you don't have the cajones to post your name, don't call me. I sure as heck won't be calling you.

smith has behaved like a total jerk. he will never get my vote for anything.
Posted by: | October 18, 2006 at 11:55 AM
Korge is a money making phenomena - that's what he does for a living, duh.
Posted by: | October 18, 2006 at 12:14 PM
But it is on the losing candidate to rally his supporters towards the winner.
i think you have that backwards as a looser has no campaign after the count is in.
Posted by: | October 18, 2006 at 12:16 PM
I wouldn't give a dime to Davis, he sucks just as much as Crist. I'm going with MAX!
Posted by: | October 18, 2006 at 12:25 PM
Gene
Ask Chris Korge who called him first, Jim Davis or Charlie Crist?
It was Charlie Crist.
Posted by: moderate | October 18, 2006 at 12:46 PM
Korge is only helping Davis so Hillary won't get mad at him.
His heart isn't in the Davis campaign, he just doesn't want the National Dems to turn their noses at him.
Posted by: | October 18, 2006 at 01:01 PM
Jim Davis sucks. Go Rod!
Posted by: | October 18, 2006 at 01:18 PM
Did Rod send this email to Bill Nelson?
