Maybe Florida Gov. Jeb Bush could bring life back to the GOP in Washington. The man who coined the phrases "axis of evil" and "the soft bigotry of low expectations called Tuesday "a brutal night for Republicans" in a speech to members of the Capital Tiger Bay Club Wednesday.
Michael Gerson, former speech writer for President George W. Bush, compared the election to being hit by a Category 4 Hurricane and blamed the Democratic tide that swept across America on the war in Iraq, corruption in Congress and the traditional problems presidents encounter in their sixth year in office.
But it may become a blessing for Republicans, Gerson predicted. Democrats will now have to share the burden of guaranteeing national security and handling the war in Iraq. He also suggested Bush and a Congress controlled by Democrats are closer to agreeing on immigration problems the nation faces and energy problems that need to be resolved. Handicapping the 2008 presidential race, Gerson said "If it would help to kneel right here and beg Jeb Bush to run, I would do it."
Without the Florida governor in the race, Gerson suggested Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama appear to be doing the most intelligent groundwork to run but Arizona Sen. John McCain and Hillary Clinton cannot be ignored because they are the clear frontrunners.
Republicans in 2008 will have the advantage of running against a "liberal congress" because U.S. Rep. Charles B. Rangel of New York and other Democratic leaders are "likely to do something to rile the base."
Gerson left the White House in June and plans to start work as an op-ed columnist for the Washington Post in January.

Come on now! the people have spoken and we again have hope for the future!...Rumsfeld is gone..the Iraq situation will finally be dealt w/in an intelligent manner. Georgie will learn to cooperate and share. I like Texas again. Charlie Christ is not that bad - he kept away from Jr at the end and it worked. Hey..let's celebrate! It could have been a lot worse. While I regret the results from Tennessee, Mr. Ford will come back. Vern is not the main concern her in Fl - someone else can run the car lots. Jim Davis will rise again at the proper time...he and Peggy have nothing, I repeat nothing to be ashamed of...they were just outspent. We have to think of it this way...we got a Governor and 1st lady all wrapped up in 1.

Please count me among the Rs who DON'T want Jeb to be the president. I shudder to think of the $$$ Sally and Paul would make off the nation.

RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman outed as gay on CNN's Larry King Live.

Didn't David Frum come up with the "axis of evil" line? I think his wife bragged about it and got him fired.

Don't you think it's ironic that the Republican Party bases so much of it's platform as being "the traditional family values party", and always utilizes wedge issues such as gay marriage to hurt Democrats, when so many Republican politicians and their operatives are themselves gay? So far we have RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman, Mark Foley, Ted Haggard, Charlie Crist (also many of Crist's campaign staffers), plus many more gay Republicans yet to be "outed". Be sure to watch Bill Maher on HBO Friday at 11:00 PM. He's going to name names- a large list of in-the-closet-gay Republicans. It should be interesting...

Yes Jeb, run.
Run far away from Florida. Heck, run far away from the United States. And stay there.
The Bush name is a curse on this country. The sooner they are gone, the better. And I personally believe Jeb would be twice as dangerous as his inept brother.

I think Jeb should run... a nice hot bath for he and Charlie filled with bubbles. Then he and Charlie can celebrate together afterwards with a nice meth massage, 2-for-1.

Jeb's legacy will eventually come out. The total paybacks to his campaign contributors and so much more that the people do not know will come out. That will kill his chances to run for anything.
