Crist appoints two to Board of Ed

Gov. Charlie Crist just announced two appointments to the Board of Education:

-- Dr. Akshay “A.K.” Desai, 48, of St. Petersburg, president of Universal Healthcare. He replaces Phil Handy for a term beginning Jan. 24, 2007 and ending Dec. 31, 2010.

good selections!

Good Selections; now if he will just appoint Marti Coley to DOE.

Willard Fair? A hack Jeb-worshipper if there ever was one.

Just a question--did you guys check Dr. Desai out well?

horrible picks by Charlie.

Fair is Jeb's waterboy and token African-American Republican.

Definately anti-public education. He will continue with FCAT, attempt to get rid of class size, privitize charter/voucher schools, attempt to reinstate vouchers and advance bogus teacher merit pay plans that "divide and conquer".

The other guy has no experience whatsover in public education K-12 besides being a gazillionaire and donating plenty of dough to Charlie's campaign.

Charlie really had an opportunity to do something special by appointing experienced educators with proven managerial leadership capabilities.

CC, you really struck out on that one!

Check your racism at the door. The days have past when libs like yourself can get away with calling black Republicans "tokens". It's funny that some of the most successful blacks in America have all been Republicans. But yet to you, they are tokens.

Simply put, you are a racist.

What, can't stand to see a black person in a position of power? Ya, I guess they are better off being the President's secretary (i.e. Clinton). As long as they are serving the liberal white man, right buddy?

You're right, how dare we hold schools accountable. You know what? Better we socially promote an entire generation of kids through failing schools. Then, give the schools more money to blow.

What is your deal 9:47?

Seeing the theme in your comment, I'm one to think you can't stand to see schools in Miami Dade improve by demanding performance. What is it... you have something against blacks and cubans having a chance?

Are you just a sucker to the teachers unions; Or are you sucking on that teet yourself?

Desai is a smart, well-educated man. What other attributes does he need?

great...now let's toss the FCAT on to the scrap heap in order to begin educating our students. so many students do not study any other language, so many students have no knowledge of american history and government, and so many students lack the ability to comprehend the written word.

Amen 10:30... oh wait a second, am I alowed to use the word "amen" on the blog while talking about public education?

while we've all had our issues with Termie

he's spot on about the token comment

Charlie is making some interesting appointments. Now I'm hearing that he wants to put Nancy Argenziano on the PSC. Scary.

Dr. Desai is a good man. He is very intelligent and successful and will bring plenty of fresh ideas to the education board. Those who complain about the appointments are disappointed Crist didn't select a hack from the NEA. They would like to see a return to the failed policies of the past and eliminate all forms of accountability.

You know what they used to say in Orlando..."If you want to lose your money real dandy... invest it with Phil Handy!"

I think Nancy Argenziano will make a great PSC Commissioner. Keep up the good work, Charlie!

Get real. Throwing around the race card won't get you anywhere anymore.

Face it, Willard's a lackey who doesn't know diddly squat about public education.

Jeb called in some big markers with Charlie to get him back on the board.

And just for your information, all the schools in Fair's neighborhood where his Urban League office is located are D and F inner city schools. Alot of good he's done them.

Oh yeah, and one (Northwestern)just won the state in football and had a running back who had sex with a 14 year old in the school bathroom and the Principal/District administrators covered it up until after the championship game.

Wonder if T was involved with that one. One would think he knows what's going on in the hood.

Bottom line, Fair is a Jeb Bush reject who has done absolutely nothing for Florida public education.
