New Congress arrives in Washington

The 110th Congress opened with much fanfare Thursday. The first order of business for the new Democratic-controlled House was the election of Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California as the first female Speaker in U.S. history.

All 435 members, including about 50 freshmen, gathered at the Capitol to hear Pelosi's speech. Also seated in the audience were actor Richard Gere and his wife, actress Carey Lowell, (formerly of Law and Order) and singers Tony Bennett and Carole King.

Florida welcomed five new members. Freshmen Kathy Castor (who replaced Jim Davis) was joined on the House floor by her two daughters. Castor's husband and mother, Betty Castor, watched from the gallery. Tampa Bay's other new member, Gus Bilirakis, sat with his father, former Rep. Mike Bilirakis, and his four children. Ron Klein, Tim Mahoney and Vern Buchanan also expect to be sworn in this afternoon.

what a relief not to have to look at that bloated pig hastert anymore.

Could Pelosi surround herself with anymore children before the swearing in. Okay, we get it; you want to look like a caring mother and grandmother. Who is her dentist?, she has the whitest teeth I've ever seen on an old bag of worms.

speaking of an old bag of worms, where is barbara bush these days? oops, i mean, the quaker oats guy...

I would imagine that dear ol’ Babs Bush is somewhere in Texas making sure those disgusting colored Katrina victims don’t stay in “their” state.

Why was Gus Bilirakis sitting with his Dad and kids? His mother told him to.

Hey now, no Bab Bush trashing. She's a saint, deserves a Nobel prize for having such a (**&%_+$#@ family.

I read a report recently that the crime rate has increased in the city of Houston. The city leaders cited the Katrina refugees as the most likely cause.
