Sen. Lynn's Prayer
It's not often the War in Iraq comes up on the floor of the Florida Senate, but it did Wednesday, smack in the middle of the opening prayer by Republican state Sen. Evelyn Lynn of Ormond Beach:
"Dear God...We ask that you watch over those in the armed forces who have given and are endangering their lives -- in a war that seems to defy all understanding and strategy. In this conundrum, we ask that you help us to be tolerant -- wise -- and patient as we strive to protect people's freedom and safety throughout the world, while our own shores remain protected from so many horrors of inhumanity."

Some things just get better with age.

Well said, Senator.

I didn't realize the Florida Senate was debating the war in Iraq. Is she running for Congress?
Posted by: | January 17, 2007 at 03:20 PM
Maybe she finally realized she was done drinking the "kool-aid."

Ten years after I stopped liking Lynn, I think I like her again. Nice job, Senator. I hope as you enter your final years in the State Senate, we can count on a return to the moderate voice of your early house days.

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and success of liberty." -- John F. Kennedy

Also from JFK:
"The United States is a peaceful nation. And where our strength and determination are clear, our words need merely to convey conviction, not belligerence. If we are strong, our strength will speak for itself. If we are weak, words will be of no help."
...and...
"Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind."
And his own DAUGHTER resents the fact that Bushites/Iraq warhawks keep misrepresenting her father:
Caroline Kennedy tells Bush to stop invoking JFK
Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, daughter of the late US Democratic president John Kennedy, has urged Republican President George W Bush not to invoke her father's name in his campaign against Democratic rival John Kerry.
"It's hard for me to listen to President Bush invoking my father's memory to attack John Kerry," Ms Kennedy Schlossberg said.
"Senator Kerry has demonstrated his courage and commitment to a stronger America throughout his entire career.
"President Kennedy inspired and united the country and so will John Kerry.
"President Bush is doing just the opposite. All of us who revere the strength and resolve of President Kennedy will be supporting John Kerry on election day."
Unluckily, that was not to be; but I guess our American servicemen and women are paying for the clueless 59 million Bush voters' mistake now, eh?

Just the right amount of campaign rhetoric mixed in with the Word… nice job, insincerity cloaked with the bible. That ought to be good for a few votes. May God have mercy on your sole for taking His name in vein.
Look it up, fraud.

I hear it said that West Berlin is militarily untenable - and so was Bastogne, and so, in fact, was Stalingrad. Any danger spot is tenable if men - brave men - will make it so.
John F. Kennedy
If we cannot now end our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity.
John F. Kennedy
In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility - I welcome it.
John F. Kennedy
It is an unfortunate fact that we can secure peace only by preparing for war.
John F. Kennedy
The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender, or submission.
John F. Kennedy
There are risks and costs to action. But they are far less than the long range risks of comfortable inaction.

Why do people feel the constant need to use comparasions of the Iraq War to World War II and the Cold War, when the former is so totally a different situation and scenario than the latter?

it will take an act of god to straighten out the fiasco of iraq, thanks to that monkey in the white house and his gang of neo-con dilletantes.

lazy, greedy republicans with no personal investment in this iraq craziness are its biggest supporters.

"Since when do children get to change the implications of their parents' words?"
When they are liberals. You see, they can do anything, say anything, believe anything at anytime and demand you not call them on it or prove them wrong in any way. If you do, it's hate speech of some kind no doubt.
You know, terrorism only started on 9/12/01 when Bush started his plans to attack Afghanistan. The US nor any other nation ever tortured anybody until Bush and Rummy allowed it to happen in Iraq. Oh and get this... Muslim terrorists LOVED America before Bush attacked Iraq. We made them all really mad at us.
Revised history my friend; the liberal way of life.
But don't worry about all that. There were no WMDs and Bush lied people died. You know how it goes...
As to Sen. Lynn's prayer. I love how everyone thinks they can be President. Say, Sen. Lynn... what's your strategy for the war against people who want to cut your head off because you're not Muslim?
-crickets-
Bush lied, people died... that's all you need know. If it's bigger than a bumper sticker it's not worth talking about and it won't make the evening news.
Oh and 8:37... you forgot "chicken hawk". Come on ignoramus, get with it.

ManS, golf-cart warriors and sunshine patriots are by their very nature chickenhawks. they talk so tough.
they are going to show those terrorists a thing or two, yes sir.
try getting one of them to actually volunteer to fight this stupid war.
anyone who thinks that monkey in the white house is a fine man and a great president is an imbecile and a fool.

Anyone who calls his brother a fool is in danger of hell's fire. Besides that, he is not only a fool, but an ignorant and arrogant S.O.B.

Any partisan elected official who publicly belittles or undermins the leader of his/her party is a traitor and said Party should turn its back on the traitor.
Posted by: | January 18, 2007 at 11:13 AM
The notion that every member of a party must reflexively tow the party line without the slightest hint of dissent is preposterous and illogical. If followed to its logical conclusion, such a suggestion yields a ridiculous result. First, our country was founded by dissenters. That aside, there are times when leaders are incorrect or lack perspective. By your logic, members of Saddam Hussein's or Hitler's party who disagreed and dissented would be "traitors" rather than heroes. Absurd! Instead of constantly wanting to silence people, why not encourage individuals to become informed on the issues and debate. The marketplace of ideas will function to determine the truth. Don't be so afraid of ideas.
