As Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, Rep Young should have conducted authentic hearings into the shameful treatment of our troops.
The illegal Iraq invasion and the diversion of department of defense funds to private companies like Blackwater and Haliburton contributed to the conditions at Walter Reed and beyond.
This is the tip of the iceberg. Look beyond Walter Reed.
Instead of protecting our wounded troops, Rep Bill Young chose to cover up for his party's deceitful actions.
Rep Young should resign.

young has been a non-thinking rubber stamp for that monkey in the white house and all his nonsense. it's time for change. this war in iraq is the sorriest blunder in foreign policy since vietnam.
Posted by: | March 16, 2007 at 10:47 AM
Charlie Justice, Ken Welch, Bill Heller. There are several Dems who have a legitimate chance.
Posted by: | March 16, 2007 at 10:54 AM

Posted by: | March 16, 2007 at 10:58 AM
Whomever they chose would be wise to stay as far away from the local DEC as possible. That’s one clown show even Ringling would pass on.

"You really have to be able to raise $150,000 a quarter for two quarters to show them you're the real deal, and then the national spigot turns on,"
Does anyone really think one moronic, immoral, and despicable Party is any different than the other? For God’s sake, bribable idiots run both Parties.

They Dems should recruit Karen Seel. It's not like she stands for any Republican values anyway. She'd make a great addition to the tax and spend liberals in Washington.
Posted by: | March 16, 2007 at 11:30 AM
maybe they should recruit a writer from the st pete times newspaper if they are looking for an ultra-liberal candidate
Posted by: | March 16, 2007 at 11:41 AM
Heller, Kriserman, Harris, Welch...BUHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA no really seriously....BUWAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAAHA
Posted by: | March 16, 2007 at 01:19 PM
Actually, either one would equate to no change at all.
Heller = an old man who hasn’t got a clue
Kriseman = SOLD, to the highest bidder
Harris = Transfer the money to my wife’s account

hmmm. wondering how many other "private contractors" who won NoBid contracts to care for our Veterans were also contributors of Bill Young's election campaign? We know AIP did ... not to delve into their executives personal contributions. What about the other Halliburton subsidiaries?
How much stock does the Young family hold in these companies? Could it be, shiver the thought, that Bill Young put his personal finances and personal professional life BEFORE THE VETERANS?
We know he helped his dauther-inlaw and her shenanigan legal office. Nothing dirtier than a public servant putting themselves before the nation and its most valued resources - its people.
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 09:07 AM
Bill Youngt has represented his constituents and the Veterans of this nation INCOMPETENT...
no matter how many Veterans the Youngs have taken into their home, held their hands, talked with their families - the number of those Veterans that he allowed to be ignored, neglected and abused - think PTS, TBI patients who have succombed to suicide because they couldn't face another day - that is abuse -
this number far, far outnumbers those that they have assisted and I hold him accountable.
There is a number of good political editors, in his district and in DC that he could have talked to, he could have taken pictures, he could have made a fuss, or hell, he could have even sent a letter to his constituents asking for assistance to help stop this disgraceful actions against Veterans. He did not. He chose to walk away, not to "dirty his beautiful mind" with this ugliness simply because he was being ignored. I hold him, his wife, his office and his peers accountable.
Instead Bill Young sent letters to his constituents for $$, support and support of other candidates - BILL YOUNG LEFT OUR VETERANS IN DISGRACE.
No backing down - no "I made a mistake" moment for this INCOMPETENT legislator. He must go down and he must burn in hades for the pain he didn't stop from happening.
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 09:35 AM
In response to Bill Young's response to the FDP ... Mr Young I want you to know that I gladly pay my taxes that supports the troops and the Veterans of this nation, as well as my city streets, my nation, etc.
But you didn't see me groveling to "show" you how I SUPPORT THE TROOPS, as an average American citizens, now did you?
You Mr. Young chose to represent the people as a PUBLIC SERVANT - if you're not up to the whole job - back away slowly and allow COMPETENT public servants do the job you have failed in doing.

Are you really that stupid? Do you somehow believe Young is a doctor and works at Walter Reed Hospital and is responsible for every patient there? Try the Army, their doctors and their bureaucratic staff. That is who is responsible for the care of our troops atTHEIR hospital. Young contacted the Times 4 years ago, and the Post. It is their choice as to print or not to print. You are past pathetic. What makes you think he is responsible for everything that happens at that hospital. How about holding Walter Reed responsible for their shortcomings. Or is that just too much common sense for you. You don't care how many soldiers he has helped? Well that is obvious. All you care about is hate. He didn't cause suicides, or PTS or TBI. Any family who needs his help, he is there for them, and they know. You know nothing- and you make an ass out of yourself with your stupid comments. "He must burn in Hades for the pain he didn't stop" - He stopped more pain in the hospital than any one civilian could stop. You should be thanking him for that instead of your last hateful comment. By the way, that comment was not very Chirstian like, was it. Maybe it is you that will burn in Hades for your internal hatred for your accusations you have no proof of.

This is awfully familiar to R's defending the guilty during the Abramoff, Foley and Katrina scandals.
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 11:47 AM
Peter Wallace is running and I am deeply depressed to hear that because he would be an outstanding candidate and could win the seat. Lars Hafner is a good candidate but there has got to be a better candidate in this district. Charlie Justice could win this seat, I have no doubt. Calvin Harris could put up a hell of a fight, Bill Heller might be a little too old-how many terms would he serve before he retired?....then you have Kriseman, I do like him a lot, I think he would make a great candidate and great member of Congress. Hes only served one term in the state House, well one term by 08 but so what Foley only had one term in the state Senate when he ran for Congress, I think only 2 yrs, so thats no big deal.
I just wish we had a Helen Gordon Davis in this district, 20 yrs ago, Sen Helen Gordon Davis would of made a great candidate.
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 11:52 AM
Wallace ISNT running, i mistyped, sorry.
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 11:53 AM
11:04 your standing for Bill Young is past pathetic.
I'm glad you support the troops so honestly. NOT.
Those where YOUR Veterans too - those men and women who have fought to protect YOUR rights and freedoms, fought to KEEP YOU SAFE. Your standing for Bill Young and his negligence as CHAIRMAN OF THE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE is pathetic.
No, Bill Young isn't a dr. BUT HE WAS THE CHAIR OF THE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE - you know the folks elected to represent WE THE PEOPLE and to make sure that the monies we've contributed via OUR TAX $$ is spent wisely and prudently in the running of our nation. Instead Bill Young applauds Kiney, stops visiting and thus holding NO HEARINGS ON THE DERELICTION OF DUTY TO OUR INJURED TROOPS.
Don't tell me - its obvious - to you its Bill Young BEFORE THE NATION, BEFORE THE TROOPS AND BEFORE THE DEBT OWED TO THOSE BRAVE VETS who did step up to protect YOUR rights and have been maimed.
You 11:04 are a pathetic and unpatriotic American and you disgust me.
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 12:23 PM
11:04 you post ..."How about holding Walter Reed responsible for their shortcomings."
I do, and Kiney is gone. However, it was AFTER BILL YOUNG knew of the neglect at Walter Reed, and with Kiney as the one in charge that he applauded Kiney .... pathetic partisanship before the country and its troops.
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 12:25 PM
Now Master Young .... be still as your standing for daddy-dearest is showing ...
"He didn't cause suicides, or PTS or TBI. Any family who needs his help, he is there for them, and they know."
Neglect led to many of the suicides as these Veterans with PTS and/or TBI felt ignored, neglected and forgotten by their Chair of Appropriations Committee ... Bill Young; your father
And thus, I hold him responsible for any and all suicides, divorces, homeless veterans, and everything else that these brave Veterans succumbed to because of the neglect that your father allowed to continue for THREE YEAR.
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 12:28 PM
don't question my Christianity, darlin' - I've been fighting as a private citizen for the rights of my Veterans louder and stronger than your father has as an elected public servant. He works for me - my tax dollars pay his salary, paid for your schooling, paid for his home, pay for your vacations - I hold Bill Young responsible and accountable.
If the job is too tough to face - back away slowly and again, allow a competent representative to take over.
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 12:31 PM
Oh look - per Bill Young's website a link to the Appropriations Committee and what its role is ..
Congress annually considers 11 or more appropriations measures, which provide funding for numerous activities, for example, national defense, education, homeland security, and crime. These measures also fund general government operations such as the administration of federal agencies. Congress has developed certain rules and practices for the consideration of appropriations measures, referred to as the congressional appropriations process.
Hmmm... isn't the VA part of the federal agencies? Wasn't it Bill Young's job as Chairman to make sure that this agency was using its tax $$ correctly in caring for our Veterans? Hmmm.... instead Bill Young looked the other way as mine, and your tax dollars went to private contractors and then accepted campaign $$ from those same contractors.
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 12:37 PM
And how much of mine, and your tax contributions does the Appropriations Committee control ...
Appropriations measures are under the jurisdiction of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees. These committees control only about 40% of total federal spending provided for a fiscal year. The House and Senate legislative
committees control the rest.
FORTY PERCENT ... FORTY PERCENT of the FEDERAL SPENDING .... and after Katrina, the War in Iraq, and of course the failures of the VA, and of course the NATIONAL DEBT .... glad someone took the checkbook away from "Pay Peter, Borrow from Tom" Bill Young.
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 12:40 PM
Damn - what happened to the Bill Young we knew of in the early 90's?
Posted by: Sean | March 17, 2007 at 02:43 PM
I think Charlie Justice should stay in the Senate, Calvin Harris on the Commission and Democrat's should unite behind Rick Kriseman. Kriseman for Congress '08!
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 05:57 PM
12:28 p.m.
You know, you are an asshole. did you know 2 of Bill Youngs sons have served? One in Saudi Arabia and the other one was shot in Kuwait during a training mission in the back and was paralyzed for six months. You are an animal. do you think this man doesn't know what kind of pain and agony these troops go through. You owe him an apology, at least for his marine son but your obviously not man/woman enough to do so. Oh, yeah, the Master Young thing. You really are stupid, my name isn't Master or Young, you moron. And why do you keep bringing his kids into your stupid comments. Do you think since you can't hurt him, you will hurt his kids. Once again, you are an animal and I feel sorry for your children, if you fortunate enough to produce any.
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 06:36 PM
uh oh .... blog police ... 6:36 is using profanity! banish him from the site!
btw - those Veterans lying in their own urine at Walter Reed that the Youngs witnessed and then left them to continue to lie in that urine - there probably paralyzed permantedly.
moron - Support the Troops means SUPPORT THEM DARNNIT every day, every hour, and every single minute and that means EVERY SINGLE VETERAN! Not just the ones that you know the names of - it means every single Veteran - Army, Navy, AF, Coast Guard, National Reserves, Marine .... every single black, blue, yellow and pink Veteran every moment of every day.
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 06:55 PM
CW is a great man. Who the hell listens to Thurmandrunk anyway?
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 07:45 PM
"Kriseman for Congress '08!"
BUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, THAT'S A FREAKING RIOT... BUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
The dude is gay. Another Stanton in waiting for God's sake.
BUHAHAHAHAHahahahahahaa.....
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 07:48 PM
Hey I was paralyzed once. But not from friendly fire. Wonder if he has the holes on the sides, front and back of head from traction and halo?
However, I still support the troop every single day. And unlike the Youngs, I'd have changed the bed linens of that Veterans lying in his own urine. Guess they're too good for that though.
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 08:31 PM
8:31 p.m. I guess you didn't read the story either. Youngs wife not only took sheets off of a cart in the hallway and cleaned the urine from under his bed, she also cleaned up the marine. And today the Youngs are still in contact with the marine. You people don't even bother to read the story or comprehend what you read. I guess they are not too good for that either. What is your problem. Their son that was shot would surely love to hear from you. He reads this piece of crap also.
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 09:05 PM
to 6:55 Just curious how YOU personally support the troops and vets every single minute of every single day. give us your name and phone number and we will all be ecstatic to learn how you manage this wonderful act of generosity every day, every hour and every minute, or do you just mean everyone else should do it except you because you are special. I think you should start a school on supporting every vet. Actually, that is probably physically impossible but you seem to be quite a special person. It's nice to know there are people, like yourself, out there that support the troops with your mouth and not your physical self every day, minute and hour.
What a phony you are. The troops will forgive you. Like they say, "We are out here fighting for garbage like you, so you can say anything you want, anywhere you want, anytime you want". Is that the same thing as every day, every minute, every hour?
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 09:12 PM
Every moment spent on here holding Bill Young and the others responsible for sending out troops into invading another country, every time spent on a street corner demanding our troops brought home, every phone call to our employees, the elected representives, every tax dollar made and spent of every day is supporting our troops.
Now let's make sure the elected officials support the troops too. Bring them home now!
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 09:44 PM
But what did Bill Young, the public servant do? Inquiring minds want to know,
Posted by: | March 17, 2007 at 09:45 PM
Young takes IAP Worldwide PAC money
IAP Worldwide, the company headed by an ex-Hallicurton bigwig, was the top giver to Young's '06 campaign.
IAP, a Florida company, now has a $125 million contract to run Walter Reed.
Connect the dots.

9:12 I take care of my husband; a proud Iraq Veteran who returned, but not whole. I support my "Troop" right here at home.

"It doesn't make a difference whether you were hit by enemy fire, or injured because your vehicle crashed, or got sick because of serving in a war zone... The effects on the soldiers and their families are the same."
Sen. Barack Obama
Posted by: Lila | March 17, 2007 at 10:02 PM
Thank you Lila, and please thank your husband. Please know, we do support our troops - we just want them home and out of danger.
Most progressives have been fighting since the invasion to make sure that our troops had sufficient armor (they did not), that the proper and best helmets were used (they were not), that enough troops were sent to support each other (there was not), that the politics were taken out of the war planning so that he professional war planners could do proper planning (it was not), etc.
And we know that the care of our returned veterans will be the largest part of this war, it will be the most expensive and the longest part of this invasion. We are fighting to make sure that the elected representatives sent to DC do their job, the job of the people, in caring and managing the care of our Veterans.
We support the troops - we do not support the Commander in Chief, as some village in TX, or CT, or wherever he's from is still missing its Idiot.

Glad those Young boys served .... but aren't they still of age to be Supporting the Troops in Iraq?
Isn't Saudi Arabia where the majority of 911 terrorists were from? Oh yeah, tht's also where George Bush's "kissing and holding hands" buddies are from ... glad he welcomed them back to Crawford.
I'm still curious about the 19 yr old in "intelligence" ... maybe he's investigating the private contractor firm that won the contract at Walter Reed and then also contributed to his father's campaign fund. I'd like some answers on that too.
Posted by: | March 18, 2007 at 11:51 AM
Time for Bill Young to be gone and gone for good. Who's looking at his personal holdings? Does he own stock in that firm too? What about Halliburton?
Did Bill Young put himself and his personal finances ahead of the Veterans that he's fought so hard for so many years?
Posted by: | March 18, 2007 at 12:46 PM
No wonder Bev and Bill Young stopped visiting Walter Reed - seems as though the place is falling down around our Veterans. Glad we were able to build and paint so many darn schools in Iraq.

Posted by: Winston | March 18, 2007 at 12:48 PM
And yet Bill Young accepted campaign funds from this company - while they, and thus he, neglected our returned troops - the ones who needed us, depended upon us and their elected representatives to serve them, and serve them well.
