Mahoney money
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is crowing about the money raised by Rep. Tim Mahoney in the first quarter. Mahoney raised $459,000 during the first quarter and more than $550,000 since the 2008 cycle began.
The DCCC said that puts him the in top four of its 29 targeted races.

Mahoney is a marked man... He'll need all the money he can get... and it still wont do him any good

I'm a Dem and I don't see any way Mahoney can win this seat again. Not unless he proposes and gets passed some amazing piece of legislation. Odds are, though, that he got very, very lucky.

Oh, like things are getting better for Republicans. 2008 is another big year for Dems. The GOP congressional body count will continue b/c of Iraq.
It's not only one of the most collossal foreign policy disasters in our nationa's history, but also one of the biggest political disasters for a party.
The pendulum is NOT finished swinging back.

Let's hope we Republicans don't nominate another homosexual pedophile.

lots of special interest money flowing into the Mahoney campaign coffers. what are these lobbyists getting for all this $$$$. Days after he's sworn in he's feeding off these special interests. I thought more of him. They're all the same.

I'm glad to see Gayle Harrell was raising money while she during session. Someone might want to tell her that money and votes don't mix. I'm not insinuating anything...or am I?

I'm glad to see 8:09 can construct a coherent sentence.

8:09, I think that's how Ron Klein got elected.
Also, she's already running against a millionaire. She needs the ability to fundraise and that shouldn't be taken away from her because she's serving the people of Florida.

Who says Ron Klein is ethical?

Rep. Harrell should concentrate on serving her constituents and not raising money to further her career. What a disservice to her people back home. Even with Newt fundraiser and all those special interests in Tallahassee, she still came in third among the GOP candidates.

Shows you how corporate America cares nothing about political philosophy, only about power
Posted by: | April 16, 2007 at 08:59 PM
This will be a very competitive race. But the district is becoming more Democratic. Do the constituents really want to elect a republican to be in the minority?

I heard Rooney came to town today and pulled in around 50k. Impressive if true.

Hopefully Rooney will take some speech classes!

Over 1/3 of Rooneys money is from either himself or his family. Very impressive that he has their support!

I also heard that Rooney was in Talli today. Brian Ballard knows how to pick his candidates.

If the Mitt don't fit... you must... ummmm... you must.... vote for the guy who married his cousin... eewwwwwwww

While Rooney wastes his time in Tallahassee, where the lobbyists don't have the authority from their clients to give to federal candidates, the GOP money leader, Hal Valeche is in DC -- where the real PAC contributions are decided.
Posted by: | April 16, 2007 at 11:22 PM
And while Valeche is in DC and Rooney is schmoozing with lobbyists, Gayle Harrell is in the District and Tallahassee serving the providing experienced conservative leadership for the people.
Posted by: | April 16, 2007 at 11:34 PM
Sure Ballard is helping Rooney. Doesn't he lobby for the family?
Harrell almost lost to a guy who had no money or name ID.
And to echo the refrain heard all around Florida: Who is Hal Valeche?
Mahoney is looking pretty good these days.

And while the GOP candidates' proxies are sniping at each other, Congressman Mahoney is raising money and raising his profile in the district.
The failure of the RNCC to recruit Joe Negron for a second run was a real disappointment for the Florida GOP. The remaining candidates lack his profile and the physical size of the meandering district (which covers a number of media markets) makes this a tough district for anyone.

12:32, for someone who isn't as well known as you say, this guy Hal Valeche out-raised both a sitting Representative and a guy who had his name plastered all over in 2006 contemplating a run for U.S. Senate and had to loan himself 25k. Rooney doesn't seem too good now, does he?

I wonder what the public thinks about Harrell's ties to Mark Foley.

The fact that there are none...?

Maybe Adam should take a look at that link.
