Bush singles out Martinez on immigration
While in Georgia touting immigration reform yesterday, President Bush singled out U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez who was traveling with him:
"I don't know if you know his story, but his mother and father put him on an airplane to come to the United States of America to be raised by total strangers because they didn't want their son to grow up under a tyrant named Fidel Castro."
"He used to sit in the Cabinet of the president of the United States. Now he sits in the United States Senate. What a wonderful country it is, where people can come to live in a country based upon liberty and realize the great blessings of our country."

Oh boy, here it comes... Castro has WMD... aka: tobacco products.

In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

Whoever came up with this should be ashamed of themselves. Whatever happened to the idea of good ole fashioned clean campaigning ?

Leave it to “Dubya” to never pass on the opportunity to exploit one’s race, religion, gender, gender preference, or heritage… for political gains.
Expect the “Vote for the Corporate Welfare… err... Immigration Reform Act, or the terrorists will attack us again.” rhetoric… right Rudy?”

I thought the Bush Family “thing” was Dubya?
When I was young, my mommy told me to quit playing with that “thing” or I’d go blind… now… I get it.

Its funny to see people having conversations with themselves on these blogs..."Whoever came up with this should be ashamed of themselves." Then re-posting "It's shameful if it's all true!!!"
I am not a Charlie Dean or Dennis Baxley or even a Don Curtis guy, I am just saying. Well, kind of wondering, how do those of you keep it all straight, those of you who spend all day on this blog talking to yourself, even arguing back and forth with yourself .

W makes little sense with that logic.
Martinez came during Operation Pedro Pan as did many thousands of Cuban children following the Castro takeover.
He wasn't a border jumper who came here illegally.
Good try though George.
Bottom line is: the GOP corporate interests want to keep the cheap labor pipeline flowing, both parties want to pander for more votes and pawn off the expenses on hard working middle class American taxpayers who they think will pay for their welfare, food stamps, section eight housing, medical, public education, etc.
All American citizens should fudge as much as possible on their income tax returns thereby depriving our bloodthirsty government of the ability to continue bilking it's citizens.
We're heading for a second American revolution. Crank up the chorus: "we're not gonna take it, no we're not gonna take it"!

There is a big difference between crossing a body of water and simply stepping over the border. We have so many more illegal immigrants from Mexico than anywhere else. Logically, you would think that the easier it is to get in, the less respect you have for the country. And it shows with the Mexican "we deserve to be here" demonstrations.

If I'm am correct, at the time it was legal for Mel's parents to put him on a plane. However it is not legal to jump (or swim) accross the border. Senator Martinez may be a great success story - but he is wrong on his immigration policy.
