FL to SC: Drop dead

State GOP Chairman Jim Greer (who under RNC rules will lose his status as a delegate because of Florida violating the primary schedule) plans to be in South Carolina next week for the Republican presidential debate. We don't expect a warm reception from GOP Chairman Katon Dawson, who insists South Carolina won't let Florida steal its first-in-the-South primary status: "We have a historical place in presidential politics and we are going to retain that at all costs. "

State Rep. David Rivera is not especially impressed with South Carolina's claim. "We respect New Hampshire and Iowa's longstanding traditions in the presidential selection process. but South Carolina does not meet the historical standard of Iowa and New Hamsphire,'' Rivera said, noting that the GOP presidential primary is often dominated by the Confederate flag debate. "In Florida the issues are much more diverse than just the Confederate flag. … Florida's a microcosm of the entire nation."

Meanwhile, the Democratic presidential candidates are struggling with the repercussions. Read more in comments.

I think the Democrats should boycott South Carolina until they come into the 21st century. Come on now, South Carolina, the war was 150 years ago and you lost. Get over it.

Final Aide Ranking for 2007 Legislative Session

i think the Florida should boycott democrats until they come into the 21st century.

"This is not the first time that a state legislature has set its primary on a date outside DNC party rules. As with similar situations in the past, the DNC is working closely with the state party to look at the alternatives for proceeding in accordance with the rules on or after February 5th," said DNC spokesman Luis Miranda.

South Carolina Democratic chairwoman Carol Fowler was none too happy about Florida setting its primary on the same day as hers.

“It’s very bad for the process,” Fowler told the AP, arguing that candidates will be forced to spend more money on television and devote less time to meeting voters.
The former DNC Rules Committee co-chair said she has no doubts that the DNC will enforce rules that will deprive candidates and the state of delegates to the national convention for holding a primary outside of the party’s rules.
“Under Democratic Party rules, this is an illegal process. They will have to have their own legal process later,” she said. “This is not much more than a straw poll.”

So are Democrats really going to skip Florida campaigning in the face of DNC penalties? Hillary still plans to campaign in Florida May 21.

"We don't have any say in setting the primary schedule but we intend to compete in any state that holds a primary or caucus," said Clinton spokesman Mo Elleithee.

when you rank these aides, what criteria is used? they are ranked according to what?

How many times are you going to post that, J. DeVon??? Geesh.

hey smarty... that's not atwater's aide anymore.

Give it up on the aide rankings; some you list are district secretaries.

Did anybody see tucked away in the bill that Gov Crist now gets 10 votes in state party election and RPOF Chairman Greer can remove any county Republican leader or officer statecommittee man for any reason. Crist and Greer what a team .word to RPOF troublemakers, get on the team or get out of the state party!!!

Enough already with the list; too many of them are not even the right names.
But SC has too many other problems to be worried about a primary.

Another note... some of the Senate Aides don't even travel to Tallahassee!

Why rank based on salaries anyway??

Senate list isn't too bad and the House listing looks about right.

Florida State Rep. Rivera said, noting that the GOP presidential primary is often dominated by the Confederate flag debate, "In Florida the issues are much more diverse than just the Confederate flag. … Florida's a microcosm of the entire nation."

Over 140 years and some Southerners still just can't handle the fact of having their forebearers losing a war.

At least, as former FSU Professor Richard L. Rubenstein noted in his classes in the 1970s and 1980s, the South had an easier time psychologically accepting the loss in the Vietnam War because "we" had lost before, i.e. the Civil War, aka The War Between the States.

That was in the 1970s and 1980s. AND THAT was 37 to 27 years ago. Nearly another generation.

Southern pride I understand on some levels, having been born in Tampa, with most of my family from Tennessee and Georgia. And I am very much pleased to be a Southerner.

The only other places that I would like to live are Washington, D.C. or New York City, given all that they have to offer.

However this thing with the Confederate flag is nothing less than perverse.

Virtually all who so "honor" the Confederate flag do so for at least one of the following reasons:

Rebellion against the United States of America (treason);

mass murder;

slavery;

Jim Crow laws and policies;

the KKK;

Nazis;

Neo-Nazis;

skinheads;

nch mobs;

the harsh responses to the Civil Rights movements of the 20th century;

the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr., President John F. Kennedy, U.S. Senator and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, and less well known human beings who fought for equality before the law and in daily life;

George Wallace supporter;

The American Party (George Wallace's political party) supporter;

John Birch Society supporter;

Strom Thurmond's State's Rights Party;

et al.

Good rankings for the most part.

Sounds more like a dictatorship to me. Look for moves like that to weaken the REC.
Of course those of us down here in the Southern part of the peninsula already know about the treachery of CC and his cronies with their illegal primary endorsements.
What goes around comes around guys!

terminator or Paul Harvill?

10:41

That would definitely be Paul D. Harvill.

I am filing a complaint with state that he blogs on the public's dime.

Should a state employee be blogging while at work? NO

It is as bad as Tom Gallagher daytrading!

a number of republican staffers in tallahassee dominate this blog hourly.
it is probably in their job descriptions.

The Republican Party in the U.S. is dominated by white evangelical southern males, who seem to have a rosy-colored vision of the lost confederate paradise. That incompetent fool currently in the White House is indicative of the sort of person the Republican Party sees as its future. I do not believe that the majority of our citizenry wish to return to a 19th century sort of society, where a few wealthy white men dominate a mostly poor populace which is kept in line and bullied by poorly educated evangelical clergy.

i watched the republican candidates yapping about all their baloney. the republican party led by that idiot in the white house has bequeathed the disaster called iraq to our poor country. except possibly mccain, not one of those clowns has any family members serving in iraq, nor will they ever have any serving in iraq. they are just a pack of war-profiteering swine who are turning a buck on this war and its suffering victims. shame on the whole stinking lot of them.

Jim Greer will be hailed as one of the true great leaders of the RPOF, he ha a plan and people are willing to follow, this is the year we will need smart, tough political leaders like Jim Greer and Charlie Crist. Here in Northeast Florida we love the leadership. Go Greer!

beware of republicans who claim to have a plan. look at that monkey in the white house - commander guy!!!

South Carolina to Florida:
At the NAIC they and the Louisiana people evoked great laughter at Floridians because of your unceasing belief that other states are going to help you pay your insurance.

The subsidy is over. You are now paying through the tax mechanism, but the key is you are paying and there are no fools in America who are going to help you out.

Is Drake running to replace Brown who term limits out next year?

Fla to SC:
Here's a quarter, call someone who cares

If this aides list is right, then some of these aides have more clout then their members.

Drake should run, if you ask me.
Good rankings, although I have no idea how you came up with the rankings. Overall, it looks pretty accurate.

Paul Harvill - that post was brilliant!

Debbie Schwartz should be even higher. Anyone that can keep Dan Gelber organized is top notch.

Perhaps 35 to 11 years ago, some might have called me a bleeding heart liberal.

The death of one's spouse causes a fundamental re-analysis of everything one once thought was true and real.

Nowadays I'm a "real mixed bag".

For example, since the mid-1970s I was 100% opposed to the death penalty for a very long list of reasons why.

With the advent of the Oklahoma bombing by Timothy McVeigh and 9.11.2001, I have changed my position to some degree.

Now mass murderers and serial killers are no longer entitled to continue living on our planet.

However I still want to see zealous and effective representation by competent defense counsel; no prosecutorial misconduct; an excellent search and documentation for mitigating circumstances; effective direct and post-conviction appeals. Once all that is done, then an excution of a mass murderer or serial killer is in appropriate order.

My continuing problem though is defining what the magic number of victims is.

Feel free if you must, but I am on leave time now and prior times when I post.

both are equally annoying...but Paul is sad...Termie is just obnoxious

I vote Termie

Paul is a putz.

That list is great, especially the Senate one.

Paul is a putz.

Isn't that special.

repukes are annoying, lacking in inspiration, hobbled by fairy tales and generally incompetent.

The list is unbelievable since Ann doesn't even travel with the Sen. President and she is in the District........

Actually Megan still works for Senator Atwater, at least she was there this morning

hey smarty... that's not atwater's aide anymore.
