Might Obama blow off Fl primary?
Kinda sounds that way: "The DNC and the Florida state party will arbitrate this and we will compete on the final field vigorously, " said Bill Burton, Obama's communications director. More here.
It might make sense for some campaigns to mount only token primary campaigns in Florida, if DNC rules means they can't win any delegates from the state because of its primary date. The state and national parties have a few weeks to iron out some of these questions, as the state's delegate selection plan must be in by June 1.
Meanwhile Obama fundraiser Kirk Wagar of Miami is confident Floridians will see planty of the Illinois senator no matter what: "Barack Obama will continue to come to Florida and continue to speak to voters. I have every confidence that when people hear his message they will support him not only in the primary but in the general election."

They mean speak to fundraisers.
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 09:30 AM
That's an Obamanation!!!
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 09:53 AM
Question for Mr. Wager: Will Obama be speaking to the $25.00-a plate-voters or the $1000-a-plate-voters?

Obama fundraiser Kirk Wagar of Miami is confident Floridians will see planty of the Illinois senator?
What is planty? Is that an off the cuff reference to a plantation? Boo! Hiss! Fire the writer!
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 10:43 AM
How about the paper plate, license plate, continental plate, and home plate voters?
WE LOVE YOU OBAMA, AND DON’T CARE WHAT YOU DID ON 9/11!
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 10:46 AM
it's always hilarious to read republican criticisms of obama, mentioning his lack of "experience."
those same bozos enthusiastically supported that current idiot in the white house. some experience!!! some republican managerial competence!!!! look at what their foolhardiness has cost this nation.
i am so looking forward to a change in 2009.
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 10:47 AM
Might Obama blow? certainly some think so
Off Florida primary? more welcome news

10:47 Democrats agreed to go to war too
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 10:51 AM
if you want to look at the stats....Democrats have a far worse record of managing a bad war than do Republicans...Give the GOP a break, Dems, they're not as experienced as y'all are in losing wars
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 10:53 AM
Nimrod posting at 10:53… can you tell me who we are at war with in Iraq… or are you just another “Whatever Dubya Says” minion?
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 10:56 AM
10:51, not all democrats agreed to go to war. all republicans did. the republican party owns this iraq mess, and needs to take responsibility for it. in true bushie fashion, it continues to make mealy-mouth excuses and to shift blame for the colossal blunders. obama did not support this war at all. all you republican trash did, with no cost to your own families.

10:56 #2
The Medhi Army
Sunni insurgents
Al Qaeda
Iranian funded militants
10:56 #1
Obama was never in a position of authority to have a say in the war...It cheapens his position all the more.
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 10:59 AM
did the Illinois Legislature vote to send America to war, and did Obama vote yes or no?
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 11:02 AM
10:56 so I suppose we should take the LBJ route and force everyone's families to have someone die, rather than allowing the freedom of those who choose to fight do so.
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 11:04 AM
Very good, 10:59… now tell me… are all of these factions (terrorists) located “only” in Iraq?
… you doing well, stay with me.
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 11:05 AM
how many of you republican clowns support this war? all of you!! how many of you republican clowns are over there fighting in it? none of you!!!
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 11:12 AM
11:05
clearly they are all over the ME...and in a declaration of war on terror, that gives the US authority to wage war on them anywhere...regardless of how or why they came to be located in their present position
remember the President explicitly delared a War on Terror, and asked for authorization to enter Iraq as part of that war's overall objectives...in 2002, Hussein's regime was classified as a terrorist state, thus making the invasion justified on those grounds alone...the fact that terror networks have emerged as a result of that initial invasion, makes the particpants no less terrorists, and the US no less authorized to fight them as well.

11:12
In 2002, the DoD and Sec. of the Air Force did not see the need to send me into the combat zone for whatever reasons...It was not my decision to ask for, nor was it mine to make...I retired after a 4 year service, went back to school, and happily work as a private US citizen.
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 11:15 AM
Thank you, well done.
Now… answer me this Batman… given that they’re all not in Iraq and when we’re “done” in Iraq they will still be a threat… where do we go next, how much will that cost, how many lives will be lost, what will the plan be, at what point will we again proclaim “Mission Accomplished”, will we open the “Draft” door, what is the actual plan and goal… and most importantly, when will it end?
Bottom line… and the question every war-supporting politician is hoping will not be asked of him or her… What and where to next?
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 11:17 AM
Defense Dept. clearly felt they had enough resources with an all-volunteer service to fight the war when it began...if that was a miscalculation on their part, let their heads roll...
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 11:18 AM
I fail to understand the logic behind the liberal argument that "why aren't any of their kids serving"
Last I checked, military service was incumbent upon one being 18 years of age, thus being a legal adult, and able to make their own decisions...
Even if a Congressman wante dto send their child, they have no authority to order them to do so

10:53 - Dems have a record of losing wars? Let's see ...
World War I - Wilson (Democratic) victory
World War II - FDR/Truman (Democratic) victory
What wars did the Republicans lose?
Korea - Eisenhower retreat
Vietnam - Nixon retreat
And yes, those two conflicts began under Democratic administrations, but the surrenders were carried out by Republicans.
Get your facts straight 10:53 before you embarrass yourself again.

11:20
the ceasefire at the 38th parallel was 5 months into the Eisenhower Admin..the bulk of the 3 years of war were managed under Truman.
Nixon's withdrawal from Vietnam was due to political pressure from a D controlled congress...the same Congress that had a decade earlier authorized LBJ deploy 500,000 as a result of "false intelligence" in the Gulf of Tonkin incedent...by 1968, Defense Secretary McNamara (appointed by both JFK and LBJ) privately conceded the war unwinnable (a war that admin had escalated tremenodusly ove rthe previous 4 years), just in time to hand the mess over to the Nixon administration
history is all about cause and effect...Nixon was never granted the authority nor resources to right the ship because LBJ had already bungled it past the point of saving....the same parallel can be made between truman's management in Korea...openly firing a 4 star general during the middle of the conflict....talk about management issues
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 11:29 AM
11:20....It took Wilson 3 years to even consider sending Americans into Europe, even after twice campaigning as a strict isolationist....talk about a flip-flop
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 11:32 AM
And thus… we have the very reason that this “war” will not end until the end itself.
The arrogance and hypocrisy in leadership of a country that is only 250 years old, proclaiming that it’s right, and therefore can demand/force a cultural change in countries that are 1000’s of years old and deeply rooted in their faith (right or wrong).
I do not believe in their culture, but I also am not so arrogant as to believe that I can change it by force. We cannot win this due to our respect for human life. While our soldier takes a second to consider that he/she is about to take the life of their enemy – their enemy, who has no consideration for life at all, will strike them first.

Lincoln won the Civil War...he was a Republican
McKinley beat the crap out of the Spainiards in Cuba...also a Republican
Madison won the War of 1812...an ardent states rights advocate, his views later evolved into the GOP
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 11:35 AM
11:29 and 11:32 - Nice try, but you confirmed my point. Eisenhower retreated from Korea (he campaigned on getting out of Korea), and Nixon retreated from Vietnam (he campaigned on a "secret plan" to withdraw).
11:35 - And Lincoln's liberal views/strong federal government would more closely be associated with the Democratic Party today. The state-rights view, which you say would be today's GOP, would be similar to Jefferson Davis's confederacy.
Come on conservatives. Up your game and get your facts right. You're making this too easy!

ANYONE KNOW OBOMA'S MIDDLE NAME?
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 12:20 PM
McKinley kicked the butts of the Spanish...sure, I'll give you that one. I can go over to my local Kindergarten and kick the butt of any 5 year-old there...doesn't make me a hero.
Lincoln won the Civil War...give you that too. And more Americans died fighting it than any other war, and when all was said and done, the South was decimated so badly that it took over 100 years for it to recover.
Reagan retreated from Beirut, Eisenhower campaigned on retreating, and Nixon more than doubled the US casualties in Vietnam under his watch and STILL ran away tail-tucked between his legs.
In the 20th C, only one GOP President fought a winning war, Bush #41, and you butt-munchers tossed him out simply because he did the responsible thing by raising taxes to prevent a balooning deficit.
And need I remind you that it was REPUBLICANS who were opposed to "foreign entanglements" who opposed entering WWI and WWII...it was the REPUBLICANS who called Bosnia a quagmire and didn't support the mission or the troops.
Yer a bunch of partisan chicken-hawks, who only support war when ignorant yahoo-cowboy types start 'em. Wanna show us your "cahones"..then enlist and serve, otherwise STFU...

There is one way to figure out if Obama is playing in Florida: Has he hired staff?
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 12:29 PM
I wish Obama all the best, as long as he doesn't win. He seems like a very nice guy with a great speaking ability. Unfortunately he has a 100% liberal voter rating which means I'll be voting "ABO" (Anyone But Obama)

Is “Obama Been Campaigning” related to “Osama Been Forgotten”?
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 02:30 PM
All of these racist attacks from the right against Obama show why he needs Secret Service protection so early. Conservatives should be ashamed of themselves.
Strom Thurmond is smiling up at you guys right now.
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 02:34 PM
Racists? Please point out the post in this thread which has anything to do with race.
Posted by: eriq | May 04, 2007 at 02:42 PM
12:26 - Ouch! Talk about tail between their legs - these conservatives can't even bring themselves to respond.

"All of these racist attacks from the right against Obama"
Still waiting for someone to point out the racist remark...
Posted by: eriq | May 04, 2007 at 03:17 PM
Eriq, here are the racist attacks:
10:46 - WE LOVE YOU OBAMA, AND DON’T CARE WHAT YOU DID ON 9/11! (Remember the Fox News attacks on Obama trying to tie him to Muslim extremists.)
12:20 - ANYONE KNOW OBOMA'S MIDDLE NAME? (Hussein is like Smith in the Muslim world. Ignorant racists would never know that though.)
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 03:20 PM
What the hell do those comments have to do with race. Oh, that's right, Obama is half Caucasian. Since I’m half Caucasian, I’m offended at those racist remarks… that… aren’t really racist… ummm… I mean… ummm… never mind.
Posted by: | May 04, 2007 at 04:31 PM
Since 9/11, the Bushies have tried to associate all in the Middle East with those who attacked us. By trying to associate a first-tier candidate who is a person of color with the terrorists crosses into a new level of racist behavior.
Look, the GOP has a long history of racist attacks. See Barry Goldwater, Jesse Helms, Strom Thurmond, Richard Nixon, and of course the most notorious racist of the GOP, Ronald Reagan (see campaign announcement from Philadelphia, MS).
If you are unable to understand how the GOP attacks on Obama are racist, I can't say that I am surprised. The GOP's denial of their race issues is is a large part of the problem. (Ken Mehlman's apology was a start, but the Repubs have a long way to go.)

If either political party thinks they can blow-off the millions of Floridians who will participate in the primaries, they are nuts! It is alleged to be a democracy. People are supposed to decide who wins, not the Supreme Court and damn sure not operatives in the political parties. A candidate with a mandate from his party's rule committee that convenes the vote of citizens will find nobody willing to waste a trip to the polls on his behalf.
