Property tax solution by June 4?

The state Senate and House have scheduled two "interim joint committee" meetings in Tallahassee in advance of the 6/12 special session on tax reform. May 21 will be to "review and discuss" options, and June 4 will be to "present proposed legislation."

""There is no doubt property taxes are too high and must be reduced," said President Ken Pruitt. "We are committed to doing everything we can to provide meaningful and responsible relief to those who are being crushed under the weight of soaring taxes."

"The next property tax bill Floridians receive must be a bill they can afford," said Speaker Marco Rubio. "Our property tax system is hurting Florida's families and destroying our small businesses.  It must be reformed if we are going to protect and strengthen Florida's economy for the future."

Did they also endorse Richard Corcoran together?

… So, you picked up on that did ya!… You monkey-nuts couldn’t run water, let alone this state.

I suggest you freak shows lay off the “interim ‘JOINT’ committee” meetings… they’re making your forget what you were sent there to do… besides, the vending machines are running out of Doritos…

RUBIO FOR GOVERNOR!

Great fundraising opportunities...

See ya'll at some of these meetings.

They need some new (different) legislators on the committee- the last ones just sat and watched the dog and pony show.

Rubio and the "do nothing" legislature are the best thing to happen to the Democrats in some time.

They did nothing on insurance (have your insurance premiums gone down?).

They did nothing on property tax during the regular session.

Here's an idea for your 100 Ideas Marco - defer to the Senate (who actually know how to research an issue), and run for Congress, where you'll do less damage as member of the minority.

3:34-
sounds like you have some pretty serious issues. Lets not forget which governor allowed the property tax express to shoot skyward for the past 8 years.

If the Legislature wants to get serious about property taxes, they should look at themselves first. The $545 million increase in school property taxes this year alone is a disgrace. How about rolling back the school funding proportions to where they were 8 years ago? That way we could have lower property taxes and keep our local government services too.

That's right gene...those kids should be workin' in the fields anyway.

"They did nothing on insurance (have your insurance premiums gone down?)."

This is the kind of idiocy that our government schools are producing...

Since when is it the responsibility of the government to lower your property insurance? That is a business decision between you and your insurance company. Don't like your company? Change providers. Premiums too high? Move to a smaller house away from the coast.

We have become a society that is solely dependent on government to hold our hand through every problem we encounter. The wussification of society continues...

I wonder is there anything in the Florida Constitution that would prevent Governor Crist from vetoing all appropriations bills? If Governor Crist lined item vetoed through all of the non-essential items what would be the ramifications, would the legislature have to re-submit the bills during the special session or would they have to call an additional session to deal with the line item vetoes? Interesting . . .would cause the legislature to have to work through out the summer until the budget is complete?
