Nelson's son convicted of battery
ORLANDO - A jury on Wednesday convicted the son of Sen. Bill Nelson on charges of battery on a police officer and resisting arrest stemming from an incident that occurred after a re-election party in November. Charles William Nelson, 31, faces a maximum penalty of six years in prison but could also get no jail time. Sentencing was scheduled for July 31 by Orange County Circuit Judge Stan Strickland.
"While we are disappointed with the verdict, we respect our system of justice, " said Sen. Nelson and his wife, Grace, in a statement issued in Washington. "And we love our son and support him during this difficult time in his life." More here.

What do you want to bet he won't be serving time?

Many first-time offenders don't serve time. Don't get me wrong, I think battery on a police officer warrants jail time, but rich/poor/political/janitorial people get off on probation all the time.

What is it with these kids of astronauts . . .

Don't you mean tax-dollar wasting, junket-taking, shuttle rider? Nelson's no astronaut!

Noelle Bush is splashed across every paper in Florida for faking a prescription for Xanax. This guy punches a cop and its almost impossible to find.

What's up with Jebba the Hutt's crack-smoking daughter these days?

Sen. Nelson is disappointed in the verdict? Well I'm disappointed in HIM for not standing up and saying he hopes his son will learn from his mistakes and become a better person than he obviously has been in the past. That is what the priviledged life of a rich senator's kid gets him. Sen. Nelson is acting like Paris Hilton's mother!

Where is the outrage from the poster who continually blogs about Republican's children not serving in Iraq about young Nelson also not serving? Equal time and fairness doctrine, idiot!

He should do the same time as any first offender or anyone in similar circumstances. I agree on Noelle. Can you believe the press actually did stories on Noelle after her father brought her up (with tears) on national television and in speeches. Honestly, her continued story may have had to do with her continuing saga. That would be being found with drugs while she's serving her sentence. If the younger Nelson punches another cop tonight, he'd probably get a few additional stories.

The lack of enthusiasm for military service in Iraq on the part of the right-wing shills and war lovers is truly shocking. When will we remove our precious men and women in Iraq from that criminal blunder?

the report was scrubbed but i heard he also had a gerbil up his butt.

11:16, you are probably a church-going evangelical.

I have to laugh at the defense attorney's comments:
To paraphrase - Nelson didn't know he was pushing a law enforcement officer because he was wearing a bicycle-patrol uniform instead of a regular uniform.
Folks, it's obvious to any rational person if a uniform is indeed a uniform. This was just a power trip.

Nelson junior is a disgrace. Trying to use his name and privilege to avoid jail.

"Nelson junior is a disgrace. Trying to use his name and privilege to avoid jail."
Kind of like Dubya and military service, huh?

will his daddy bail him out like ghweaselbush did so many times for gwchimpybush?

Senator Nelson is a disgrace for sending other people's kids to Iraq while he defends his own spoiled brat, criminal, rich, law enforcement- hating, drunk of a son.

Who was it that once called Bill Nelson

Having gotten into a physical altercation with Billy years ago, I can see he still hasn't changed over the years, he still a scumbag!

Typical Democrat: refusing to take responsibility for his actions:
1- THE SON: insisting he's sooo innocent. Jury thought otherwise.
2- THE FATHER: "Dissapointed" in the verdict? Why doesn't Nelson try being disappointed he and his wife didn't do a better job of raising this arrogant thug?

3:58 You really thing serving in the National Guard is like punching out a law enforcement officer?
Posted by: | June 29, 2007 at 08:50 AM
The only good thing about this story is the probability that said officer was a Repiglican. If that was the case, go Charlie!
Ever notice how Repiglican's children are over here enjoying the spoils of war, while the poor children of this cuntry are abroad, serving in order to fill the coffers of Repiglican's trust funds?

Looks like the guy has a substance abuse problem. He needs to be in treatment; otherwise his problems are likely to continue. People who abuse alcohol and drugs are ill. Their illnes is no different from any other.
