Poll: Obama lagging in FL, Thompson strong
The latest Quinnipiac poll of swing states shows Hillary Clinton cruising in Florida and Giuliani's edge shrinking. Still, Giuliani is the only Republican who beats every Democrat in hypothetical match-ups in FL.
Ds: Clinton 38, Obama 15, Gore 13, Edwards 8, Dk 15.
Rs: Giuliani 27, F Thompson 21, McCain 13, Gingrich 7, Romney 6, DK 18.
“If Sen. Obama is catching Clinton in the primary contest, there is no evidence of it in Florida and Ohio. But in November, the large number of non-Democrats who view her negatively keeps a cap on her showing against Republicans,” said pollster Peter Brown. “Giuliani’s lead among Republicans continues to dwindle. Perhaps his much-discussed difference with the GOP mainstream over issues such as abortion, gay rights and gun control are beginning to take its toll.

How and the world Fred Thompson has managed to create so much buzz without having accomplished a single thing in his political career is one of the most fascinating things of our life time.

11:48-Stay tuned for more "fasinating things".

The results of this poll show the American Idol mentality (scrutiny) has permeated the minds of the average voter.

12:26...
You mean this is a surprise to you??
Posted by: Jim Johnson | June 27, 2007 at 01:03 PM
Yawn. Whoever's the "new guy" leads, until the next new guy comes along. Things are far away from settling out.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 01:26 PM
Even more remarkable is that Thompson is the best candidate to be the leader of the free world that Republicans can muster.
When compared to Obama's intellect and Clinton's experience it nothing short of laughable.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 01:27 PM
Although 11:48 has a very valid point.
Fred T. will lead for a while just on name ID.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 01:28 PM
Rudy's lead will open up more as the scrutiny begins when Thompson declares.

mitt's looking good at 6%...

Do not underestimate Thompson as an intellectual light weight. You will get burned.

McCain is in freefall over the amnesty for illegals. And its not his first time pissing off the conservatives on a hot button issue.
Romney was the "new guy" that never caught on with conservatives.
Rudy was the centrist choice: fiscal conservative, hawkish on foreign policy, but liberal on social issues. He wins the nomination over the other GOP candidates and tromps Hillary in the general election. (He was my first choice)
Except.
Except Fred Thompson isn't flawed as are McCain, Romney, Giuliani, and the rest. He is surging in the polls as a steadfast no-nonsense conservative. I believe America will rally to him as well. This race is now his to lose.
And all you Republicans out there need to respect the 11th Commandment, so we don't wind up smearing our eventual nominee. Lets keep the criticisms respectful -- we have to keep our eyes on November 2008, not the just the GOP primary.

I really regret that the Senators supporting the "amnesty" bill did not do a better job of clarifying that it is not blanket amnesty...
obviously there is a demand for immigrants and immigration into this country -
what, then, has made it so hard to do it legally as to create this situation of massive illegal immigration, and how can it better become a legal process are the questions we should be asking.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 02:21 PM
Jaguar-
You forgot to mention Rudy's opposition to the second amendment. He sued 30 gun manufacturers during his tenure as NYC mayor.

Wow this polling company borders on terrawful. Honestly can we give any credence to a registered voter poll, when a good majority of the people on the poll won't show up Jan 29th?

"walnuts" mccains is sinking

the mobbed-up bernie kerick
the pedo priest he continues to protect
the s.c. treasurer and campaign chair and the little problem of ONE KG of cocaine
and now said south carolinian's father/substitute chair being tagged with ignorant, racist talk -- standard for s.c., donchano?
a "crossdresser"!!
mitt, flipping and flopping like a boated sturgeon
and finally, phat phred
cornpone tennessean, 'cept he has carried water for just about every special interest for millions and milliions over the years
yep, a professional ho as presidental candidate!!
and, finally, several important, formerly "loyal" R's turning on the chimp and his policies regarding the dust-up in vietraq.
to quote flounder from "animal house":

despite all of that, the best the D's can come up with is a former first lady whose closet is filled with shady land deals, a less than authentic public persona, war flip-flopper, New York carpetbagger, stand-by-your man so long as his name gets you to the top socailist.
The GOP has made it too easy for the D's to win, and still you'll find a way to blow it.

Newsflash to the writer of this thread: The anti-abortion / hate gays right-wing crew are NOT the GOP mainstream. Most Republicans are pro-choice and don't care who anyone else sleeps with. They DO believe in smaller government, lower taxes, strong national defense and personal freedom.
But here's a question for you "investigative reporters": What does the Democrat mainstream stand for?
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 04:15 PM
You gotta check out this YouTube video showing "conservative" Fred Thompson stating that he is pro-choice in 1994 and 1997.

Fred's PERFECT 8-year U.S. Senate 100% voting record on pro-life issues from the National Right To Life Organization is all I need to know. THAT speaks all I need to hear.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 04:24 PM
is that true? did fred thompson get a 100% rating from right to life for every year he was in the senate?
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 04:27 PM
Thompson will be the next president. Love it, hate it, don't believe it... President Fred is coming.
Posted by: Mike | June 27, 2007 at 04:36 PM
No. I have been unable to find any proof that Fred Thompson received a 100% rating from that or any other organization.
He said, in a speech to the National Right to Life Organization, "on abortion related votes I have been 100%."
The Christian Coalition gave him a rating of 77%.

FLASH!!
phat phred is a LIAR!!
no to mention a well-heeled, beltway ho!!
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 05:42 PM
Here is where you can see the NTRL voting scorecards. Fred's only "bad" votes according to the organization ahd to do with McCain Feingold campaign finance reform laws. The fact that the attacks are coming on him before he's even officially a candidate shows his strength.

Fred has a lot going for him. Feel free to be negative now but just wait... he will be our best President in many, many years!

According to ON THE ISSUES....Fred Thompson...in June 2007 ...Roe v Wade was a bad law and bad science
In June 2007 shared would appoint strict constructionist judges....has never been prochoice despite 1994 news reports....voted YES on banning partial birth abortions (oct 1999) and voted YES on banning human cloning (Feb 1998)
Posted by: | June 28, 2007 at 07:29 AM
I'm a Democrat so I don't really care either way. But, the "news reports" were 100% accurate and based on his own words. Please visit the link above.
Thompson is either a liar or lacks the will to stand firm in his convictions.

Another full time vagina monitor? What is it with pasty faced white males fixated on every program that puts women's health at risk? Womb envy?
MSM only mentions in passing that biggest cause of death for pregnant women (like Ohio case) is murder. Most often by the baby's daddy.
Then O'Reilly blames the victims in that case and wife of wrestler in Georgia murder/suicide. He says their own bad choices caused death. What about the KILLERS' choices? Blame the victim, right? But they never explore the reality that some women abort fetus to break legal/emotional ties to crazy men --- to save lives!!!
Oh no -- THAT choice makes MOMMY a murderer in their eyes. Ever try to prove in court that your crazy husband, boyfriend, is a violent nut in private with you and your fear for your life is reality? Oh shoot -- that's a "he said--she said" and you are just a silly woman. What happened to female "right to life?" Daddies don't die in childbirth. Can't even legally force daddy to donate a little blood to save baby's life. But you want laws to force women to suffer all those dangers and not have a right to HER "bodily integrity"? Abortion is self defense more often than idiots want to believe.
How about a president who stops murdering humans in aggressive wars for oil theft? Then stop taking sex advice from guys like pope who supposedly don't have sex or kids and thinks he can put himself between you and god --- and that he has a right to speak FOR god --- and that no woman can --- even tho Jesus acted otherwise. Knowing that "virgin" in BC years just meant "young girl", they promote birth as "magic." They read god saying "be fruitfull and multiply" but tell you sex is sin? Should we split in two like amoebas to reproduce?
And I'm guilty of someone else's sex? Hey --- I'm praying for the "rapture" now so we get idiot me firsters off our planet and live in peace. (And it was NOT okay to edit the "no graven images" out of 10 commandments so you could "revere" those graven images.)
