Romney v. Shirish
It seems the publicity over Mitt Romney's allegedly extra tough campaign/security staff has fueled some words between Florida's team Romney and S.V. Date of the Palm Beach Post (Pictured near Romney here). Check out this e-mail exchange:
Hi Kristy,
Is the security person who stopped the NYT reporter in NH the same individual who tried to keep me out of the Senate Office Building and its elevator during Gov. Romney's visit here? Thanks. SVD
Shirish,
You mean the time you practically knocked over Mrs. Romney? You were so aggressive and rude, Governor and Mrs. Romney actually stepped off the elevator to allow you to go ahead of them. No one kept you out of the Senate Office Building or the elevator. You attended Governor Romney’s entire meeting with members of the Florida Senate, as did several reporters that witnessed your behavior that day.
Hope you are doing well. Talk to you soon. Thanks, Kristy
Date fires back full force. That e-mail is in comments.

4:02 - the reason the many witnesses are not coming forth with "the real story" is that unlike little Shrish, THEY have lives and this "story" is irrelevant.

S V Date is well respected by the readers of the PB Post in Tallahassee. Unlike many reporters today, he is not trying to get a job with the Gov office or the Republican party.
Hang in there, Shirish.

Big Love? It depends on how many wives Romney has.
Posted by: Roman | June 27, 2007 at 04:13 PM
Given Romney's staff behavior in NE, this is news as it shows a trend of bullying and lieing about it. Haven't we had (not to) soon eight years enough of this?
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 04:15 PM
So, is he or isn't he the same Romney staffer in question?
It's a very simple question. Yes or No will suffice as an answer.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 04:22 PM
I've known Kristy for a long time, and I can tell you that if she were to play football, she would not be a lineman. I suggest Kristy and Shirish settle this with a friendly game of tennis.
I've got $500 on Campbell.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 04:23 PM
Well, how do you know my real name ISN'T Chili Palmer?
And if I were the reporter, I would send any response to Adam first, so it could be verified.
And I'll bet if you asked Adam real nice, he could look at the IP addresses involved (I'm sure they're logged) and see that mine is coming from Orlando, not WPB.
And that all of the anonymous posters are coming from probably 2-3 different IP's, as you all seem to be teaming up on him. And I'll bet they're coming from Romney's camp, trying to discredit the reporter.
All you've done really is make me want to go read SVP's reporting - where there's smoke there's fire - and NOT vote for Romney. Something this ugly this fast could easily come from somebody's Presidential campaign. It's called Spin Control. And it can backfire on you at times...
Posted by: Chili Palmer | June 27, 2007 at 04:26 PM
To repeat 4:22:
yes or no?
forget the tennis; too much obfuscation:
yes or no?
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 04:27 PM
Shirish, sit down, take a deep breath, and have a glass of merlot. No one is out to get you but you.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 04:35 PM
Chili Palmer - you have either made your opinion irrelevent from:
a) being an obvious outsider to this inside baseball game, or
b) not having any clue who Date is and his history, or
c) both
Its not Romny's staff, I think 2:53 put it best:
"Way to go Shirish... You brought 99% of the bloggers together and against YOU! Not even Charlie Crist can unite such a group! "
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 04:36 PM
yes or no?
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 04:41 PM
Things never change for Shirish "Douchebag" Date.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 04:42 PM
Shirish Date is a ridiculous and arrogant bully in the FL media. If anyone takes a second to look at his record, there is an incident almost every year where he gets physical and or indimidating with subjects of his stories. He needs to be reminded that being in the press doesn't shield him from the laws governing human decency.
As for the Romney team ---- good for them to standing up to him, but I don't know why it is getting so much attention. Shirish is banned from something or someone every year for his bad behavior.
As his kids would say ... whatever shirish.
Posted by: known him for a long time | June 27, 2007 at 04:43 PM
Boy (girl), that's funny.
Calling names is such a sophisticated way to communicate. You, 4:42, must be taking writing lessons from GW.

4:43
Shirish is so aweful that the Governor couldn't afford to let him in Florida while he was in Israel; need to keep him under wraps, you know.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 04:50 PM
He should love Gov. Bush. He's sure made plenty of money off him.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 04:52 PM
I don't plan on joining the Shirish Fan Club at any point in this lifetime.
But Shirish isn't big enough to "knock over" a bowling pin.
Shirish may be right, for once.

romney people should spend a little less time on this blog and a little more time getting your guy to make up his mind... on every single issue. he puts john kerry to shame with his flipflopping.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 04:56 PM
hee hee...whenever the comments section goes ballistic, you know you've hit a nerve -- nothing hurts as much as the truth! Trooper Garrity where are you? this blog needs some policing!
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 04:57 PM
"misrepresentations need to be dealt with immediately"...what happens when the press refuses to print all of the facts or the whole truth..which is pretty much every day?
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 05:03 PM
Maybe mitt came up with the Trooper Garrity gig for his aide after this Date incident.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 05:05 PM
I kknow who the nasty posters are, Jeb and Feeney.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 05:10 PM
I don't think "Chili Palmer" is blogging--John Travolta (Pulp Fiction's Chili Palmer) and the low level mobster Chili Palmer, probably have better things to do.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 05:22 PM
Good job, Kristy. :)
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 05:48 PM
Methinks there wouldn't be such an uproar from the weenie staffers if there wasn't truth to the allegations.
Wasn't it just yesterday that the FDP issued an"Urgent Memo to Florida Political Reporters Covering Romney"?
This was to warn reporters of Romney campaign aides pulling stunts just as described by Date. So where there's smoke...
Posted by: Gene Smith | June 27, 2007 at 05:49 PM
Ding! Ding! Someone's finally got a clue! Sure would be easier to reply to specific comments if ya'll would use at least a fake name.
I thought it was pretty obvious that I'm an outsider to this baseball game. I had never heard of Shirish Date before coming to this Tampa blog. I mostly come over here to find out the latest scoop about the fat crook known as Lou Pearlman. That doesn't mean that I can't oberve, learn and make my own comments about this situation.
I'm interested in anything to do with local, state and national politics. That's why I surfed over here - saw the story about Romney's guy strong-arming people, and I find that fascinating.
And what I found even more fascinating was what looked liked 2 or 3 people ganging up on and running their mouths about a reporter - anonymously.
So I find out that the reporter has done stories about political corruption, and has a book coming out that Jeb Bush isn't going to like. Awesome! This gets more fascinating by the hour! I was right about the smoke/fire.
And I still think that someone from Romney's camp is in here, trying to do some spin control. Maybe not authorized, but doing it all the same.
Posted by: Chili Palmer | June 27, 2007 at 05:54 PM
Typical Republicans, blame the media when something goes wrong. You say this reporter bashes Republicans. Could that be because all the leadership is Republican, and leadership gets the attention?
The PBP and SPT do the best job in the state at uncovering what really goes on here. Most people can see how that would rub some people the wrong way.
As for all the past so-called incidents, we all know, have read plenty on this blog, how Jeb (and his loyal staff) could not handle being questioned. Anyone who asked tough questions got on their list fast.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 06:07 PM
I don't doubt that chili, but the truth is date is a bully and most of the people have nothing to do with Romny. He has a reputation for bending or purposfully omitting facts to suit his "breaking story" He had a hard-on for JEB! and is now striving to make himself relevent again. This was probably nothing.
Date would have been great in the 1920s when the lines between the press and flaks were more blurred(you know, before there was a code of ethics and whatnot).
Gene Smith is the spinmaster for the liberal dems and is fueling the fire because Romney is an R.
This was probably nothing. The thing that gene points to is problematic, but sounds like a mental problem the dude has. If I said someone I was friends with (who do you work with for years that you aren't friends with in this business) has a drug problem, should you get them help or cut their job and let them do bad things. I guess it's just a differene of opinion between this Republican and Gene, the liberal democrat!

Kristy is reasonable and fair. SVD is a turd.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 06:55 PM
I wonder how much Shirish is owing Adam; I'd say $10/blog is fair. What great publicity from so many idiots.
Wow.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 07:11 PM
Maybe Shirish just tripped over Romney's flip-flops.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 08:05 PM
Now that's really funny!!!
lol
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 08:14 PM
After reading this article about Mitt strapping the family dog to the roof of his car for a 12 hour trip, nothing surprises me.
Posted by: Bill | June 27, 2007 at 08:20 PM
sounds like the Romney family. have you heard about the time the guy (Mitt) tied the dog (Mutt) to the roof of the family car? yep, put the pooch in a carrier on the roof of the car and only stopped when the kids noticed a brown wet ooze running down the back window - quick stop, hose off the dog (gas station) and crate and hit the road again.
i don't think the guy is suitable as dog catcher, let alone preznut.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 08:20 PM
An offensive lineman hit wouldn't do Date justice. He is more deserving of being speared in the back from a freeroaming linebacker running at full speed. Now THAT would be worth reading about on a blog.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 08:31 PM
damn, the romney staffers are in full swing now arent they
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 09:07 PM
Are you kidding? This is the most attention Mr. 6% has received in Florida...
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 09:12 PM
"One lesson I have drawn from my experiences with Jill Bratina and Alia Faraj is that misrepresentations need to be dealt with immediately, and not allowed to become conventional wisdom...."
"Until that time, however, I will continue to stand up for my ability to move about a public area like any other American. I trust you will not find that too inconvenient."
Shirish Date vs. Republican operatives?
I believe Mr. Date. I have met him and he is not the enemy - unless one is lying or being evasive.
I highly recommend his books about Jeb Bush and Bob Graham.
And for those calling him biased: Truth is non-biased. Those who call him biased cannot handle the truth. Period.
And for those who believe that he hates all Republicans: Then you are a liar and need to read his book about Jeb Bush. You will be surprised to learn that he does like Republicans - honest ones that is. And honest Democrats too. Dishonest Democrats get raked over in the book too.
Respect is earned. And should thus not be freely given.
I'll halt here with my responses, which will cause some to be gleeful - but those are precisely the ones who need to read his book about Jeb Bush - if you have the guts to and can handle the truth.

I have been trying to post about this but keep getting that same message that 10:17pm has been getting. Is the Times trying to block opinions that support Kristy?
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 10:22 PM
Hi..10:22pm. I have a job and only just got on to this site at 10pm tonight. So, I am new to this blog. Please try to refrain from passing judgement unless you know the facts.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 10:23 PM
I have known SV Date as a lobbyist and as a public servant. He is a bitter little man who has his own agenda and doesn't care who he hurts to get his message out.
I have known Kristy, but only in my capacity as a public servant. Regardless, she was always tremendously kind and helpful.
I am wondering how this is a story... isn't it obvious who the innocent is in this scenario?
SV Date... go write more books about people who hurt your poor little feelings. So pathetic. I can only assume you got the Times to pick this up because your book sales are down. Next time, try writing something remotely factual and you might see a profit.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 10:26 PM
Harvill, you are such an idiot. Go get a life.
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 10:27 PM
10:27 is brilliant... absolutely, on the money!!
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 10:30 PM
Paul... hasn't Sec. Butterworth been made aware of your blogging addiction? If not, someone in management needs to bring your inappropriate actions to his attentoin. You are WAY too biased to be a good messanger of the "people".
Posted by: MN | June 27, 2007 at 10:31 PM
10:26:
ha, ha, ha - who's paying you to say such biased garbage? "innocent"
Posted by: | June 27, 2007 at 10:31 PM
spelling boo-boo... I meant "attention" not "attentoin"... sorry! He just makes me so mad I was typing too quickly.

10:31... whatever. the truth is the truth.
