Statewide tax vote set for Jan. 29
The statewide vote on constitutional changes related to property taxes has officially been set for Jan. 29, date of the presidential primary.
Rep. Dean Cannon, the lead House negotiator, announced the date at the beginning of today's tax hearing. Cannon said it avoids the cost of a special election and falls a month before the regular session, allowing lawmakers to make adjustments if the 60 percent threshold is not met.
The move, reported Saturday by the Times, is not surprising. The earliest a vote could be held this year (assuming a plan passes the House and Senate) would be late September, just before new city and county budgets go into effect.

so if only 100,000 people decided to vote on Jan. 29th then 60% 100,000 (60,00)is needed to pass the ammendment, interesting.

................................
The new constitutional requirement for 60% of the voters approving a Florida constitutional amendment is the result of the vote in November 2006 - when the people changed the percentage from 50% plus one to now 60% - thus making things more difficult for legislators too, not only citizen initiatives.
