Poll: Thompson Giuliani neck and neck in FL
Mason-Dixon shows Rudy Giuliani with 21 percent support among likely Florida GOP voters, and Fred Thompson with 18 percent, within the poll's 5-point margin for error. John McCain was at 11 percent and Mitt Romney at 7 percent. Among the Democrats, Hillary Clinton leads Barack Obama 31-17 percent lead with John Edwards trailing third at 12 percent.

More good news for Romney.

Brace yourselves!!! Here come the Stormin' Mormon's pom-pom girls, ready to have Romney as their baby daddy.

Romney is wealthy. Therefore, God loves him and he must be a good man.

Fred Thompson is going jump into this race in September and save the GOP from themselves. He will be their savior. It seems these other clowns keep spending money, but their wheels keep spinning in the mudd, and their poll numbers are stagnant.

Great news for the Fred Heads!
Giuliani keeps slipping, McCain keeps tanking, and Romney keeps hitting his ceiling.
Thompson will continue to pick up the support of the other candidates as they drop out. Throw in an endorsement by Gingrich later this year (after Fred finally announces) and you have a runaway winner!

What does anyone know about Fred? Only that he is NOT Gulianni, Romney or McCain. Thompson's popularity is a double edged sword. He had better turn out to be the solid Conservative that Republicans hope that he is, otherwise, he will fall like a rock. His popularity is indicative only of the fact that Republicans are extremely dissatisfied with the moderate choices they have been given thus far. If Thompson turns out to be just another moderate, there will be the same level of support for the next unknown.

Rudy's had a good few months and the fact that he is still at 20% tells me that at the end of the day he'll have trouble winning here.
Posted by: | July 27, 2007 at 03:37 PM
lol Romney is behind McCain, whose campaign is on life support.

Wow- if this continues, Fred is on the rise. Why is Rudy skipping the FL debate? The less of him seen the better- is this good for a pres. candidate? I don't get it. I want to see Fred enter and see all answer questions on the same stage before making a decision.

Is Fred still stalling?

Will Fred announce before Labor Day? Has me intrigued.

I heard Fred speak today at the ALEC conference. I was SO unimpressed! He read his speak even though there was a telepromter. He had very little emotion and sounded like he was reading an essay vs a delivering political speech. Maybe they handed the speech to him right before he walked out onto the stage. He really blew it before several thousand conservative state legislators.
I really wanted to support him but unless he can give a decent stump speech he is doomed. His handelers need to spend some time getting him ready for prime time.

No, Really: Giuliani and Romney are Winning
by Steve Kornacki
Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani.
It should be stated up front that this race for the Republican presidential nomination is unusually shapeless and fluid, a pleasant departure from the preordained outcomes the party has specialized in since 1980.
That said, the G.O.P. contest suddenly seems to be solidifying into a more definite form: Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney, each for entirely different reasons, have stepped to the head of the pack, while Fred Thompson has slipped and John McCain is gasping for air.
Where only a month or two ago the Republican race featured four co-equal front-runners, there are now two. And while this pecking order could easily shift among the existing candidates (and while there remains a theoretical vacuum for a yet-unnamed white knight to swoop into the race and steal the nomination at the last minute), Mr. Giuliani and Mr. Romney have passed some key early tests of their front-running status.

You would think that Romney would be doing better. Afterall he won the YR straw poll and has appointed hundreds of political "has beens" to his numerous Florida campaign committees. I guess they are all looking for resume boosts and are incapable of grass roots work.

The Tortoise and The Hare
There once was a speedy hare who bragged about how fast he could run. Tired of hearing him boast, Slow and Steady, the tortoise, challenged him to a race. All the animals in the forest gathered to watch.
Hare ran down the road for a while and then and paused to rest. He looked back at Slow and Steady and cried out, "How do you expect to win this race when you are walking along at your slow, slow pace?"
Hare stretched himself out alongside the road and fell asleep, thinking, "There is plenty of time to relax."
Slow and Steady walked and walked. He never, ever stopped until he came to the finish line.
The animals who were watching cheered so loudly for Tortoise, they woke up Hare.
Hare stretched and yawned and began to run again, but it was too late. Tortoise was over the line.
Mitt Rocks!

He is at 7% you idiot. He started running name ID commercials last September!!! He has appointed every marginal politico in the state to a "Romney Committee", but what is interesting, very few have given $$$ to his campaign. His wife calls him Ike. He calls her Mamie. Anyone in Florida with a pulse knows this guy. They simply do not care for him as a presidential candidate. Nothing wrong with him, he is just not presidential timber. As soon as Thompson and/or Gingrich gets in the race, you will see Mitt slip to 5% or lower. That's the margin of error of most polls.
Try to be a bit more creative than offering a time worn fable. But then again, you probably have a GED.
I must admit however, I enjoy watching someone squander his fortune on a race where he has no chance of winning.

A bit more creative? I thought the fable was very creative!
And no, I do not have a GED but a diploma, and also BA from the University of FL in Political Science.
Romney is a self made man with an incredible fiscal record that can take on the budget in DC better than any 08 candidate. Newt as smart as he is has no prayer, and Thompson has no record of anything significant. His wife is already surfacing as a problem.
In FL, Romney's monetary contributions were only second to MCCain's (total) and in the second quarter Romney raised the most.
