Divvy up Florida's electoral votes?

The Republicans thought it was a bad idea when Gov. Lawton Chiles proposed in 1991 to split Florida's presidential electors by congressional districts, as Maine and Nebraska do. The Democrats, still in control in Tallahassee back then, let it drop, a decision they may have rued nine years later when George W. Bush took all 25 Florida electors, and the White House, with a plurality of only 537 votes out of nearly 6-million cast.  But the Republicans are gung-ho for this "reform" now that it has surfaced in California. No wonder. It would give them at least 20 of California's 53 electoral votes - 20 more than they could otherwise hope for next year - and make it drastically more difficult for any Democrat to win the presidency ever again.

Go for it. It'll make campaigning that much more interesting. Candidates will have to cover every square inch of the state, making every vote count!1

This story is several weeks old. Why are you acting like this is breaking news?

repukes will attempt anything to steal elections and maintain power...

11:24 what are you talking about?? Wouldn't that make each vote count even more????

I'm sure Charlie will jump on the bandwagon if his buddy "Ahnuld" is doing it in California!

a fine idea, if implimented nationally and at the same time

otherwise, it is simply an effort to dilute electoral votes, on behalf of EITHER party!!

11:24
If the four counties in South FL who continue having problems would learn to count, you could not continue whining about a 'stolen election'. Those same four counties are the same reason that EVERY county in the state must now spend thousands of dollars to change the voting machines once again.

If the Democrats want to win the Presidency all they have to d is come up with a message.

Here's a totally revolutionary idea: just count each vote - every state would then be in "play". That's true democracy, the electoral college is not!
