Righting a wrong
A House bill has already been filed to compensate Alan Crotzer for the 24 years he spent in prison on a wrongful conviction. Now the Senate has companion legislation.
"You cannot put a price tag on freedom, but we also cannot turn a blind eye to injustice," said Sen.Dave Aronberg, D-Greenacres, who is sponsoring the bill. The legislation would designate $1.25 million - approximately $140 for each day Crotzer sat behind bars – as compensation for the wrongful imprisonment.
Aronberg sponsored the same bill last session, but it died. The House bill is sponsored by Rep. Luis Garcia, D-Miami Beach. Crotzer, formerly of St. Petersburg, was convicted of double rape in Hillsborough County. His innocence was proven through DNA evidence.

I strongly dislike claims bills. Period.

ADSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL!!
one, that the mostly white and wealthy fatkatz sat on their butts last session and refused to compensate this man for a grave injustice;and,
two, given the total and utter incompetency of the intial police investigation
(also known as the "arrest any neegra" policy)
it is possible the the REAL PERPETRATOR is still out there!!
aint that grand??!!??
THIS WOULD NOT BE TOLERATED were it a white man, and everyone damnwell knows that!!

11:24 - What a load of racist crap! Frankly I am surpised he didn't get. All he needs to do is have the race lords march on the Capitol and then CC is pander to them. That is the ONLY way to get it done.
Frankly, I think if he were white, he wouldn't see a dime.

Some of you little repiggies are grousing and complaining because of a monetary award to a man wrongly imprisoned for 25 years. What if it happened to one of your family members?
Would you be bitching so much? Just what exactly do they teach you idiots in your fundie sunday schools? To be racist and selfish trash?
Posted by: | August 01, 2007 at 12:02 PM
well, of course, he wouldnt see a dime, because he wouldnt have been picked up in an "arrest a suitable whiteguy" police action
please tell me what is "racist' about citing two points:
he was arrested and convicetd because the cops did a peepoor job. they arrested "some neegra" and cut the cloth to fit the case, and;
were this to have happened to a white man, there wouldnt be any question aboout him being compensated?
and, please, do tell me:
what about the guy who committed the crimes?
where is he today?
what ever happened to him?
is he still free?
thats what happens every time an innocent person is convicted...the GUILTY walks!!
"if fools could fly, the sky would be dark!"

12"35, the same massively stupid non-logic was used to punish Iraq for the mostly Saudi Arabian destruction of 9/11. Go figure.

Yes, 12:02, at my church, they teach my to hate the "dark" people.
Your a douce. Now, quick, say something about repiggies not serving in the war!

we're not complaining about Crotzer getting paid. We're complaining that Anderson's family - that of a true criminal - were paid before Crotzer, who truly suffered an injustice.

24 years behind bars and people are thinking what. Oh I get it. He should dig into his pockets and pay for the good fortune of having a roof over his head and three squares.
If this guy was someone else he would not have been detained for more than 24 minutes before someone would have lost it.
It is funny you can interest on a judgment but no principle (word play intended) on a man's life.
Nice. This Republican is not interested in bad police work and folks who just cannot do the right thing.

About $140 a day sounds like the least per day he should be compensated.

Relief is already overdue - by many years.
Special session?
Good time to right a wrong.
