Report: S.V. Date pulled off Crist beat
From Bob Norman at New Times: "Veteran Tallahassee reporter S.V. Dáte has been taken off the Florida governor's beat. Palm Beach Post Managing Editor Bill Rose told me this afternoon that the decision was made yesterday to reassign Dáte to the legislature and other reporting tasks after the reporter's wife, Mary Beth, was recently hired as a $38,000-a-year budget analyst in the governor's Office of Policy and Budget.
"Rose told the St. Pete Times last week that Dáte could keep his beat covering the governor because he wouldn't be covering the "particular office" his wife will be working in (health and human services). But he's since had a change of heart. "There is an appearance of a conflict of interest and about the only thing we could do is have him not cover the governor's office," Rose said.

will he be reassigned to another state? please, please, please?

Why not asign him to cover jut the Democrats. That would make him happy.

If Jeb had only known it was this easy

Hats off to the editor for finally coming to his senses.

Jeb should have taken a page from Charlie's playbook!

terminator - you have lost your credibility, as well as your mind.

The real idiot here is Rose. Amazing how he made the same indiscretion that he writes about others making. Idiot.

This is all smoke in mirrors Date will still be pulling the strings a Bureau chief. Shrish Date sold out!
Posted by: | September 24, 2007 at 09:09 AM
As if South Florida newspapers do not have a sufficient lack of credibility as supplicants to left-wing Dems and equally misguided New York retirees. What an idiotic decision to can one of the best and brightest of the journalistic community.

You all make incredibly sound points and back them up with much evidence. Why can't Republicans just hire the reporters like they did in Iraq?
Posted by: | September 24, 2007 at 09:31 AM
Now he can spend his time asking the legislature the tough questions, like what kind of underware they wear (an actual question he asked Gov. Bush for his book). Good riddance!
Posted by: | September 24, 2007 at 10:21 AM
And of course he won't have a problem being neutral on any issues that involve disputes between the legislature and governor's office...
Take him off all political beats and then we will have comfort that he is not being skewed in his writing.

If you can't beak 'em... buy 'em...
Nice going, Chuck!

This is great news. No matter how much you people dislike him,he does his homework and that scares you. He is very much needed in the Legislative arena. There is so much corruption and political fighting for leadership positions that good public policy is no longer practiced. He will get the truth out. Sharish please check in to the money {millions)the legislature gave to CSX (Jebs friend). Look into those legislators who suddenly get jobs at community colleges, or businesses, etc. The ones who wives/husbands suddenly get contracts. It is happenning. I am thrilled that Sharish has been reassigned. He can look into what Rubio and his gang are really doing with their power and our money. He will check out the shenanigans in the Senate.

I bet Ken Pruitt and Ellyn Bogdanoff are sooooo pleased.

From the office of Charlie Crist:
"This is Marco Rubio's fault. He complained to the PB Post and used his influence and good relationship with them to make this happen"

ha ha ha....
Why is no one asking the basic question, "how did he convince a woman to marry him?"

Sure, Bob Rose is not too bright for back-pedalling here, but let's look at S.V. Date's own accountability. How many times do you think he's written of a public official failing to recuse himself from an issue because of a conflict of interest (whether it be real or perceived)? Clearly, when it comes to himself, Mr. Date does not have the same professional standards that he would hold others to. Unfortunately, it's not just this incident, it's a track record. As Bob Rose clearly illustrates, the management at The Palm Beach Post is clearly indifferent to conflicts of interest and will only take action on them when they come under public fire. Gee, doesn't this sound eerily like the type of actions their ed board might regularly criticize? It must hurt when that light is shined on them.

"There is an appearance of a conflict of interest and about the only thing we could do is have him not cover the governor's office," Rose said.
GEE! There's not an "appearance" of conflict when Date is writing a tabloid unauthorized biography of the previous governor while covering him "objectively" for the Post. Or how about Date's library tour bashing Jeb Bush's administration while he was "objectively" covering him for the Post?
I guess those things don't "appear" to be a conflict of interest.

12:28 (Date) don't you have a deadline or something?
Posted by: | September 24, 2007 at 01:41 PM
Come on, huys:
Rose - did the right thing in the end.
Date - wouldn't know the right thing if it bit him in the B___S.
Charlie - (well, probably Lemieux) genious for hiring Date's wife, creating a conflict of interest.
Posted by: | September 24, 2007 at 01:43 PM
Sounds like Feeney or Jeb posting about Sharish.
Posted by: | September 24, 2007 at 03:22 PM
How can you tell Shrish Date is lying???
His lips are moving...or his hands are typing.
Posted by: | September 24, 2007 at 04:17 PM
3:22 - I'm sure Feeney or Jeb would know how to spell Shirish.
Posted by: | September 24, 2007 at 04:30 PM
They may spell better, but they are corrupt. I think I would rather be a person who sometimes, when typing fast does not get an unusual name correct.

GENIUS MOVE.
