Special Session Oct. 3-12
The Legislature will meet for a special session October 3-12, 2007. The call will be released next week. The House has canceled committee meetings scheduled for next week and both the House and the Senate have tentatively scheduled committee meetings for Sept. 27-28.
More details on session here.

So Rubio and Pruitt have twisted arms, made promises and threats, and have the terms all spelled out. So much for government in the sunshine.
So, before they cut services - are they giving up their 3% raises? Are they going to start paying for their health care like all the other PART-TIME state employees? Are they going to start paying for their dental care like all other state employees?
Is Rubio going to terminate the $10,000 a month contract to his political consultant?
Will the House and the Senate reduce their budgets and personnel the same percentage that they are demanding of the agencies?
If they raid the trust funds that regulate the various industries and professionals - will they reduce the number of laws regulating them?
They charge contractors, doctors, nurses, funeral directors license fees. These fees are to be put in a trust fund to regulate these people and companies - if the State isn't going to use this money for these purposes, shouldn't the state quit regulating them or just given them their money back?

Great..there goes another $360,000 on a special session for something these idiots should have taken care of during the regular session. Florida has no leaders, just bobble-head dolls.

hey 9:08 - I am pretty sure you wouldnt want legislators cutting 1 billion dollars out of the budget unless they needed to. The drop in the state budget happened after session. please, get real.

No, they were warned about the problems of relying so significantly on sales tax revenue back in 1986, then in 2003 by Former Senate President McKay. But nooooooooooo, Single tune Republicans would rather govern ostrich-style with their heads in the sand.
Now when the chickens have come home to roost will they catch a clue? Nope, they'll just pass unfunded mandates on local governments while pretending to force local governments to cut taxes.
They will accelerate the downward spiral of education in Florida while talking about their commitment to quality education.
They will slash services to the most needy by laying off those state employees who actually provide the service.
The will raid the trust funds which are funded by those who are taxed (excuse me I mean charged fees) but are not provided the services for which they are charged dearly.
They will gut state government while paying $10,000 a month for political consultants and contract out governmental services so that they cost twice or three times as much and provide less that half the services previously provided.
They will then parrot the sound bites provided by the majority office and give each other a "atta boy" for a job they claim is well done.
No matter, as long as they can become lobbysts after they've termed out - they're happy - who gives a darn that they govern like the carpetbaggers of old.

What will they screw up this time?

dear Joe....by the time special session rolls around on Oct 3, PIP will have already sunsetted. That happens Oct. 1. Isn't it grand how that works? Bring on my lower insurance rates!

U WILL SAVE NOTHING ON AUTO INSURANCE. STATEFARM HAS INCREASED BI BY 15%

BUT YOUR TAXES & HEALTH INSYRANCE WILL INCREASE SO U WILLL WIND UP PAYING MORE MONEY. ENJOY

Change the title of this thread to "Disgruntled Dems off their meds rambling..."
Posted by: | September 14, 2007 at 08:37 AM
6:58 Was that the actual crowd at an actual game? It couldn't be... it must have been a practice.
Posted by: | September 14, 2007 at 08:46 AM
Joe is right... even a small increase of 2-5 percent of your more expensive health insurance will easily offset any savings doing away with PIP.

some people just ain't happy if they ain't complainin' like whiney little babies all the time - the state constitution allows for specials, they are doing they're jobs, don't like it then run yourself - if your sole contribution to moving government forward in this great country of ours is trolling the blogs until 2am and crying about your dental coverage (or lack thereof), then please MoveOn outta this country and leave it to the adults.

Marco the puppet did the one thing that Snake Farm and United Automovile wanted: kill PIP.
Where is the "member-driven process"?
Posted by: | September 14, 2007 at 10:13 AM
sit on my face!!!!
Posted by: | September 14, 2007 at 12:02 PM
10:09 - I have every right to complain. I've worked on numerous Republican campaigns. I've given money, time, and hosted fundraisings. Not for any personal benefit, but because I believed them.
No more. When the Dems were in charge it was like pigs at a trough. The Republicans promised to bring back honesty in government and intregrity in the legislative process. Under Speaker Webster those promises were kept. That was the last time.
Now while Republicans and Democrats talk different values - their actual values are identical - grab as much as they can for themselves, forget about the long run, and live by the sound bite.
Even now Senator Webster has lost the ability to thoughtfully address the problems of the state and is now only interested in the slash and burn, one-size-fits-all approach.
Sigh. Next election I probably stay home, increase my donations to charity, and only fund-raise for nonpolical causes.

12:04 - nobody cares. Stay home and stop wasting my bandwidth.
Na-na na na. Na-na na na. Hey-Hey-Hey...
Posted by: | September 14, 2007 at 01:08 PM
Oh goody, another Special Session to waste my tax dollars and give polidickins something to proclaim they did for me… even though they did nothing.
Weeeeeeee, here we go again, free sandwiches for the tubs in the house!
Posted by: | September 14, 2007 at 02:34 PM
And there is enough time to plan some fundraisers...
Posted by: | September 14, 2007 at 03:23 PM
Give it a rest already and let PIP die like it should have years ago. PIP is a huge boondoggle that most states do not have. 38 states have no mandatory PIP and have cheaper insurance rates.
Why should I have to buy insurance twice. Good riddance PIP, I'm canceling Oct 1st.
