Tax ruling a 'blessing in disguise?'
Gov. Charlie Crist said Tuesday a judge's rejection of a "misleading" ballot issue on property taxes may be "a blessing in disguise" because the re-do could open the door for even bigger property tax cuts. He cited two avenues for fixing the problem: appealing Circuit Judge Charles Francis' ruling or passing a new tax proposal in the upcoming special session.
Crist's preference? "I really don't have one. I just want it to be on the ballot. That's my preference." The clock is ticking: The state faces an Oct. 31 deadline to meet the 90-day requirement for an election.
Was it the right call? "I"m not sure ... I don't know." Was the language misleading and confusing? "It kind of depends on how you look at it... I don't necessarily feel that way, but I guess I can see how a judge might, and I respect that."
Questioned about backroom no-fault insurance talks, closed-door Seminole Tribe gambling negotiations and a backstage discussions on cutting the budget, Crist said: "I don't think there's been a more open government in the history of Florida than what's gone on here."

Charlie Crist has not succeeded in keeping a single campaign promise, has shown absolutely no leadership and has bumbled and bungled through his first year in office.
Its official: Charlie Crist is the worst governor in the history of this state.

9:55- you're so wrong. Jeb! will go down as the worst governor in Florida's history.
Posted by: | September 25, 2007 at 09:59 AM
Can Crist just spout BS like this is the most "open government in the history of Florida" and the press corps will just lap it up with a smile?
The Askew administration set the standard of open government for the entire country in its time, but, alas, that was a time when Florida was a model of good government reform.
Look it up newsies!

9:59 - Jeb! not only kept a high approval rating, he did it by implemently polices and legislation. HE took a stand and made decisions based on what he felt was the best for the state. CC, on the other hand, makes decisions based on polls and has shown he has no backbone whatsoever and panders to the left. I hope this state can last through another 3 years.
Please Jeb, come back and save us!

Actually, I think the worst Governor in Florida history might have been Spessard Holland, who won on a campaign of "Keep White Schools White"
Posted by: | September 25, 2007 at 10:08 AM
The complaisant press corps that Jeb cowed is now crowing the Crist crap! It's "Idiocracy" writ real.
Posted by: | September 25, 2007 at 10:12 AM
Why does this wishy-washy language surprise anyone? CC tries to keep everyone happy all of the time!

Soudns like Charlie has been taking speech lessons from the same coach as Dubya.
Posted by: | September 25, 2007 at 10:12 AM
The speech problems of both come not from a lack of linguistic felicity, but from a lack of policy substance or in the case of Dumbya, a fundamental unwillingness to level with the American people about what is (or was) the true objective.
He's not dumb. He's evil. There is a difference.

10:08, at least Spessard Holland had convictions and followed through on them, no matter how repugnant and repulsive those convictions were.
Holland was bad, but lack of conviction keeps Charlie Crist at number 1 on the list of all time worst Florida Governors.

Crist is going to work hard to be the worst governor ever of Floriduh. There have been some real doozies. Charley Johns, the homophobic nitwit, comes to mind as does anti-Catholic bigot Sidney Catts and the cracker ignoramus Fred "Old Swanee" Cone who actually killed a man in cold blood. At least Holland was a lawyer. Of course, so is Crist, sort of. OK bad example.

Are they going to take a mulligan on the amendment?
Posted by: | September 25, 2007 at 10:40 AM
Am I the only one… or is Chuck looking and sounding more and more like a complete, pandering and blathering moron. This puppet can’t make a decision on anything, including his sexuality.
Oh, sure… throw 8-million of our tax dollars on some irresponsible crack-head parents in order to pander for a vote that wont come… but ask him about insurance and taxes… you know “THOSE LITTLE THINGS YOU PROMISED TO FIX… CHUCK!” and hommie drops a cranium bolt.
ONE AND DONE… CHUCK… ONE AND DONE!

I told you guys so back in April of 06 (well before the primary) and old Termie was getting bashed by just about everyone.
Gallagher may not have been perfect but he's a hell of alot better than creampuff Charlie!
Goes to show what $30 million in special interest money and some dirt in the opponent's closet can do for a campaign totally devoid of principle.
How dumb do Florida Republican voters feel now?

Gov Crist is looking more & more like a fool. Has he actually done one thing as Governor other than to jump into photo opportunities?
Jeb was a much better governor. He actually got things done.
Well here is my ultimatum:
You promised property taxes dropping like a rock. You promised lower homeowner's insurance.
GET THE JOB DONE!!!
Posted by: | September 25, 2007 at 12:17 PM
The judge's ruling is a great opportunity for Gov Crist & the FL Legislature to really re-do the amendment to get real savings to property owners.
I say scrap this amendment & go with Speaker Marco Rubio's orig. plan to eliminate homeowner's property taxes for 2.5% more in sales tax. That plan would solve SOH, portibility, and much more.

The court's took the Super Homestead Exemption off the ballot for unclear language. Here is the truth and maybe what should be on the ballot.
"Vote yes and Homestead property taxes go down - Non-Homestead(business's, rental, apartments, grocery store, gas, etc>)property taxes go UP" If you don't believe me ask any Property Appraiser's office in the state. Any exemption for one set of property owners MUST be made up by another. SOH did this and so will the Super Homestead Exemption.

Vote NO on the amendment and save Save Our Homes.
