A last-minute ringer for Broward sheriff?

After screening nine candidates for the job of Broward sheriff last Friday, Gov. Charlie Crist added a tenth on Monday: Jeffrey Sloman, 49, the No. 2 man in the U.S. attorney's office in South Florida and the prosecutor who drove ex-sheriff Ken Jenne out of office in a corruption scheme. Sloman submitted a resume Saturday and was in Crist's office Monday afternoon.

Crist described Sloman as "impressive" with a "sterling record" and said the last-minute prospect came highly recommended by Rep. Dan Gelber of Miami Beach, the House minority leader, among others.  "I was very impressed with him, " Crist said, calling the job "one of the most significant public positions in the state, so I'm trying to be deliberate."

Oh, a Democract recommendanding someone, CC will hire them on the spot. Idiot.

Sheriff Jenne should be held accountable, but it seems the only person who shouldn't be considered is the guy who prosecuted him.

well anyone want to bet cc will pick the dem? if it isnt already a done deal.

who cares if it's a Dem? It's Broward Sheriff, not Rep. or Cong. What major difference in administration and policy would (or should) there be? The Sheriff isn't going 'raise your taxes.' They're going to run jails and law enforcement--not provide school vouchers or reform the civil justice system.

10:13, Good post. Glad you spit out the kool aid.

Isn't it a little bit odd that the guy who ran the previous sheriff out of office is now applying for the job? Not to say Jenne didn't need to go, but for the prosecutor to then try to get the job seems like it slightly blurs the ethics lines. You have to question whether or not this idea was a motivating factor for the prosecutor.

So Chuck's ready to stab BREC in the back (you know the guys who gave him the illegal endorsement in the GOP primary) by rewarding the most coveted Broward political position to a buddy of his buddy Dan Gelber (you know the guy who doesn't want property tax cuts for Floridians)?
Chuck, you're a real tool!
The Miami Herald reports this morning that Chuck has converted to Judaism by posting a Mezuhzah outside the Gov's office door.
Is there anyone this guy won't pander to for more votes?
Ps Did you see Chuck on the news last night saying how sorry he was that the guards in the Martin Lee Anderson case weren't found guilty?
And this coming from a guy who used to call himself the Attorney General!

Broward County needs a certified law enforcement officer to run the Sheriff's Office. Acting Sheriff Lamberti is the perfect candidate.

The problem is that a DEM with lots of money and clout will win this seat at the next election. That is a fact.
