Challenging Gus
Former Plant City Mayor John Dicks announced Monday that he'll challenge first-term Rep. Gus Bilirakis for the ninth congressional district in 2008. Dicks, 54, an attorney, served on the Plant City Commission for nine years, including three one-year terms as mayor.
"Partisan politics and political bickering has become more important in Congress than finding solutions – we need a change. Florida's working families deserve a congressman who is focused on getting things done for the people he represents," Dicks said in a staement. "I can be an effective leader for our district on both sides of the aisle."
His press release doesn't mention it, but Dicks is running as a Democrat. In recent years the district has gone increasingly Republican, and Bilirakis won with 56 percent of the vote last year. But Dicks has gotten encouragement from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and he met with Chairman Chris Van Hollen and other leaders in August in Washington.

John Dicks has to be considered a serious challenger to Lil Gus who has the distinction of being rated less effective than non voting Members of Congress.

John Dicks will be about as "serious" as Phyllis Busansky was last year. Go Gus!

Gus should face a primary. He needs to realize that his district isn't in Greece.

YABBA, DABBA, DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Gus Flintstone had better see Mr. Slate for a job at the PASCO quarry. His days in DC trying to figure out what to do are numbered!
He'll have barely enough time to squeeze in a few more Hellenic Resolutions, then it is back to the sunshine state to resume probate and real estate settlement law.
Bilirakises. Meet the Bilirakises.
They're the stone age modern family.
From the county of Pasco,
They're a page right out of history.
Let's ride with the family from DC to Florida.
Through the courtesy of Gus' two feet.
When you're with the Bilirakises
you'll have a yabba dabba doo time.
A dabba doo time.
You'll have a gay old time.

Democrats, don't be fooled! If you are concerned with the quality of Florida's environment, be very affraid of Mr. Dick. Let's just say he has a lot in common with Hills. Co. commissioners Hagan, Blair & Norman when it comes to his fundraisers!!! Give me Gus any day! (I never thought I'd say that!)

Gus Flintstone's Recent Record (Who the heck wants India on the UN security council?)

H.RES.627 : Supporting the removal of Turkish occupation troops from the Republic of Cyprus
H.RES.638 : Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the United Nations should forthwith take the procedural actions necessary to amend Article 23 of the Charter of the United Nations to establish India as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Good! Thank the good Lord we have someone who will step up the bat against this weasle.

Why is Gus sponsoring a bill to let India into the UN Security Council. Is he nuts?

... Duuuuhhhh!

Gus has done very well in his first term. He has been quite effective on the committees he serves - particularly as a freshman - and he will continue to represent the district well for many more terms.

I wonder what Dicks' campaign logo will be

I agree with 4:25!

Busansky was quoted as saying, "I like Dick."

Gus is highly respected in Congress. He was offered a seat on the powerful Finance Committee but turned it down to stay on the Veteran's Committee. He serves his constituancy well.
India would be a nice addition to the U.N. Security Council. It is a strong, rapidly growing, pro-western democracy. It would counter balance Russia and China.

Gus must be a regular at 7-11 and the No-Tell Motel.

What the heck are you Gus supporters smoking? Gussie couldn't figure out how to wipe his own a** without daddy's help. If he didn't share his daddy's name you all know he wouldn't have come close to winning his first term. Half the elder folks that his team handed absentee ballots to thought they were voting for his daddy. And guess what? Gussie's little con crew didn't try real hard to make them know the truth. There is reason why Gussie has been hiding. He doesn't want all those folks to know they were conned into voting for an empty headed toy version of his daddy.

Hey Boca,
Doesn't the US and UK already counter balance the Reds?
Posted by: | October 01, 2007 at 10:28 PM
Boca - Are you just plain stupid? Are you aware of India's past? Have you not read history of the region? India was of no great help in the Cold War and they modeled their economy on the USSR back then. Do you remember the non-aligned movement? Pakistan is a much stronger US ally historically, but then again Dr. Gogi Ramapa does write some pretty fat checks.

Would someone name one thing that Gus Flintstone has done in his first terms that has had positive and lasting impact. Something that has make a difference in people's lives. Something he did on hiw own?
Waiting with baited breath.

"India would counterbalance Russia and China".. what?
Posted by: | October 01, 2007 at 11:21 PM
He was an idiot not to take the Finance Committee position if what you say is true.
Posted by: | October 01, 2007 at 11:22 PM
Ya'll better hope Evelyn doesnt see you talking about her little boy like this.
Posted by: | October 02, 2007 at 06:49 AM
Fasano? Hell no. With all the camera's in DC he'd never get any work done he'd be way too busy preening for the cameras. Gus had done a phenomenal job in his first term, ask the veterans about it.
Posted by: | October 05, 2007 at 08:29 AM
Hahahaha Gus is about as effective in Congress as someone who isn't even a member. He's a do-nothing and he's going down down down.
Posted by: | October 10, 2007 at 09:47 PM
Bilirakis the younger has been a reliable supporter of the Bush/Republican administration.
Just like his Dad. Those who want more of the same incompetence should continue to support him.
As for me, all incumbents are being voted out next time.
