Thurman's lobbying
Karen Thurman isn't the first state Democratic chair with a side gig lobbying, but one of the biggest critics of her handling of the primary controversy is now raising more questions about Thurman's lobbying activities. She's already taken some heat for earning $3,500 per month helping former state GOP Chairman Al Cardenas lobby on behalf of Miami-Dade.
Now, Democratic state committeeman George Maurer has sent a memo to Democrats criticizing Thurman for lobbying for eAppeals, a firm the helps appeal denied health care claims. Federal records show that eAppels has paid Thurman at least $160,000 (and $110,000 to former Democratic Rep. Ron Klink of Pennsylvania) since 2005, the year Thurman took the $100,000-a-year job as party chair.
Wrote Maurer: "I have some problem with my FDP Chair working simultaneously as a paid lobbyist and FDP Chair. I have a bigger problem with my FDP Chair never having disclosed same to me and finding out about it via a newspaper article. ... In all due respect, I submit that Ms. Thurman’s chores as a lobbyist are in conflict with her chores as FDP Chair."

She made it pretty clear that she was a lobbyist when she was running for chair. Leave if to the Dems to be upset at Thurman when she makes money in the job that she had before getting elected.
Now it's time for Buccolo to borrow mom's computer and for Brudy to ride the bike to the library to call her "Thurmadrunk."

Miami-Dade County has a big issue with the number of contract lobbyists they employ.
I can't speak for the federal side, but on the state side, they have at least 7 or 8 firms representing them.
Plus, they have an in-house staff of a few people.
At least they smartened up and only sent up Jess McCarthy and Juan Delcerro to special session, and not the usual thousands of county employees that only go up to Tallahassee to crowd the halls.

Just when the Democrats appear to be making progress they attack the woman who helped make it happen....they're idiots, bring back the chairs that lost all those seats in congress and the legislature!

12:00, A person who claims to be one, while lobbying for the other… is neither loyal to nor worthy of trust from either.
12:38 (aka: Thurman herself, or one of her butt-wipe minions), Karen had not one damn thing to do with any successes in ’06. You can spew it all day long, but it wont make it true. The “idiots” you post of, are those like you who refuse to accept reality… even when it steps right up and sh*ts in your face.

1:25, I don’t know who John Russell is… and you haven’t the first damn clue how much YOU’VE lost… you moronic minion.
Come the election of ’08, and you realize how Dean and Thurman have screwed your entire Party… you’ll be sucking eggs at your local gay bar, drowning your tears in a Shirley Temple.
Dean isn’t smart enough to pull it off, and Thurman works for the competition… end of story!

1:25: FYI---It Could be Ed Helm or Norm Roche.

She learned this from Republicans. Who doesn't make tons of money in the political arena whether it is from lobbying or getting jobs that pay for doing nothing at all? Whats so new about this?
Posted by: | October 08, 2007 at 02:04 PM
1:56, I don't know who those guys are either... but I can tell you're just another Kool Aid drinking idiot who couldn’t wipe their own a** without video instructions from the Party.
Both Dean and Thurman are a disgrace… and along with ideological dipsh*ts like you and you ilk, have ruined the Democrat Party.

2:49 I am not sure who you two are talking about but if you think that the Democrats are the only ones who follow lockstep without thinking for themselves then you live in never never land. Sorry but the Republicans, especially in the State House are the biggest Kool aid drinkers I have ever seen.
