A year into term, Latvala draws opponent

Talk about an early start: Republican Tarpon Springs Mayor Beverly Billiris has filed to run for the District 4 County Commission seat now held by Susan Latvala, also a Republican. Latvala's term expires in 2010.

Billiris is a repected public servant who has a broad base of loyal supporters. Republicans respect her; Democrats respect her. She will also draw the support of Independent and No Party voters. Too bad Latvala does not share the same respect... especially after the Smith land purchase.

Plus, Latvala's merry spending ways and defense of out of control spending by Pinellas County government will make Republican primary voters sit up and take due notice.

If the election were held next year then ole bev might have a shot.
In three years no one will remember who Jim Smith is.

7:22 has it right. The Pinellas County Comission spent every penny instead of lowering taxes. Latvala has done nothing but defend big spending.

DIDN'T REALIZE LATVALA WAS A COMMISSIONER-WITH ALL HER "QUOTES" IN THE PRESS, THOT SHE WAS THE COMMISSION SPOKESWOMAN-OR SHE WORKED AT THE "TIMES"-OH WELL, ITS UP TO HER CONSTITUENTS & THAT WOULD BE AN EASY CALL FOR ME-NOISE-NOISE VERSUS SUBSTANCE!

Mayor Billiris has been great for the city of Tarpon Springs. It is true that she has a multitude of loyal followers simply because she cares and they know it. Moving to a county position is the best thing for us. Latvala has become to relaxed and overly Confident in my opinion. She's becoming stale as the days go by. It would be nice if the election was
tomorrow but Tarpon has the best deal now. Mayor Billiris for 2+ more years. She'll(Billiris) have our vote in 2010. Move out of the way Latvala! We think you will have to pack a lunch to beat the Mayor in 2010. She will win in 2010!

Good It's nice to have a republican running in that district.
