Clues from C.W.
Don't expect any announcements about whether C.W. Bill Young will run again until after the new year.
Young said in an interview Thursday that he likes to wait until the election year to make an announcement.
"I just do not want to put voters in Pinellas County through long campaigns," he said. "You know from years of exposure to me, I don't do anything political in the off-year. I don't think people want a two-year campaign."
So what about all the money he raised this year?
"The only reason I raised money this year is just for those that are interested to know that I can raise money if I need to. That was just a little tweak to let folks know I can raise it if I have to," he said.
So when will you announce? January? February?
"You should assume I'm running for reelection unless I tell you differently."

He can stay Forever Young if he wants to. This past session he brought home the second most $$$ to his district out of 435 Congresspeople. That's a heckuva accomplishment, especially that his party is not the majority.

Hey, did CW get any earmarked money to help returning soldiers keep from losing their homes here in Florida because his buddy Chuck is a worthless piece of lying (insert expletive here)!
How much did CW get earmarked for injured veterans healthcare, or Walter Reed?
How much did he get earmarked to help soldiers wives, left here to hold the family together… how much for childcare for the soldiers children so the soldiers wives can go to work and try to keep from losing their home while the soldier if sacrificing his life to protect our democracy?
How much did he get earmarked for a border control… cause he cares so freaking much about our protection after 9/11.

Come on Agatha… you got your payback for fleshing for CW. Just sit in your seat, collect you check, and continue to ruin Clearwater.

9:25 - Be more dramatic, please. You're not giving any speech here and nobody cares about what you have to say. Your ranting and ridiculous rhetoric makes Karen Thurman sound ingenious.

I wasn't making an endorsement...I was stating a fact.
Posted by: agatha | November 09, 2007 at 02:36 AM
I can see Young taking his announcement all the way to the filing deadline and then throwing all of his campaign funds in to a candidate of his choosing. What was his COH, $750k?
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 08:31 AM
The fact is that Young knew about the horrible conditions at WR in 2003. He also knew that Kiley was directly responsible for the death of at least one soldier at WR (Bev's claim not mine) and went on to praise Kiley in 2004. According to Bev, they fought everyone from the staff at WR all the way to the White House and got no where.
What did he do then?
Posted by: ALW | November 09, 2007 at 08:35 AM
alw you can hate, and be in misery for another 3 years or you can just stop and save your energy for when young does retire, but sorry buddy looks like you have another two years of him..because, lets be honest deep down even you know if he runs he wins
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 08:47 AM
8:47 This is about the facts and hate has no place in the discussion. Clearly you are passionate. What would you have done if you were the congressman and faced the circumstances above?
Posted by: ALW | November 09, 2007 at 08:55 AM
what what you have done alw? tied yourself to a tree? burnt a draft card? grow up the world is not as simple as you
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 09:37 AM
You still refuse to answer the question. What would you have done? It is a simple question.
While you're at it explain why Young and Feeney voted to support the president's veto of the water bill.
Posted by: ALW | November 09, 2007 at 09:49 AM
if you can explain everything maybe you should run for office alw
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 09:53 AM
9;53 thank you for your support.
Frankly, I can't explain why Feeney and Young voted to uphold the president's veto of a water resource bill that will benefit all Floridians. I look forward to discussion of this clearly anti-Florida vote.

ALW, you should know by now that these Republican Party lackeys can only spew their talking-points rhetoric and attack when pushed for a “real” answer.
There’s a HUGE difference between shifting public funds to campaign contributors, and taking legitimate and substantive actions in an effort to support out troops.
These monkey-sticks simply don’t get it. Talk about the “bottom line”, and they’re all over it… talk about the “front line”… and they run like hell.
… pathetic.

Young is waiting to see if he avoid getting a top tier opponent before announcing. He doesn't want a tough fight - especially with every sign points to his district voting for the Democratic presidential nominee.

Mgr, I agree. The two WR (Walter Reed & Water Resource) issues may finally upset his apple cart.
Posted by: ALW | November 09, 2007 at 02:08 PM
What could Congressman Young have done? As Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, he could have held hearings. But, it was an election year, and he "didn't want to give the Army," or Bush, "a black eye."
Posted by: Samm | November 09, 2007 at 03:13 PM
I guess it’s the ol’ saying… “a black eye” for a leg… or two… maybe an arm… possibly both… just as long as my contributors get their paybacks!… aye CW?
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 03:41 PM
young will be prepared to take on any challenger, i think if someone who thinks they are a strong candidate tries to come out he will make it a challenege and more of a point to winning. in 2006 a year that republicans were the target, in a district that is pretty even/leaning dem he destroyed samm simpson (without even campaigning much might i add)
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 04:10 PM
Actually, Samm did pretty well against you, CW... err... 4:10.
Don't you have some more tax dollars to misappropriate?
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 04:55 PM
Well 4:10 that was before we knew of Bill's knowledge of WR and his failure to make those horrible conditions public after being stonewalled all the way to the White House. It was also before Young voted to support Bush's veto of the Water Resources bill. So there are two big problems for Bill and the are both abbreviated WR.

ALW:
You have no clue what you are talking about regarding Walter Reed and you know it. You are quoting a piece of a remark. The troops love him, know he is there for him and he still goes to Walter Reed to visit OUR troops and he doesn't feel he needs to tell you about it. Get a life ALW you have no control over Mr. Young and you are a hateful person. Do you believe the next upcoming congressperson from Pinellas County will have a clue as to help the troops? of course not. It will take them 2 years to find their way around the capitol, then another two to figure out who they are. You need to shut up about the troops. they know who supports them not you , you are an idiot.

Susan and Gene:
did the Times tell you not to post your names. Too late. Your style is obvious and it is low class and cheap. Susan, sober yet? Gene, hows the public park system going? maybe you could get Young to put in some better lighting systems in the parks? huh, what do you think? A guy could get hurt late at night in an unlit park restroom. Toe tapping could be quite dangerous in the dark.

Samm:
Shame on you. or are you just stupid? He did hold hearings. Remember, his wife made a finger gesture at the General. My how we forget when we want. He held a lot of hearings, how sad the few that drag soldiers into their political agendas. There is a hell with your name on it.
Posted by: | November 10, 2007 at 12:59 AM
actually samm didnt do very well at all against him, while republicans were getting beaten all around the state and country and all republicans were taking the fall for bush, young got extremely high numbers without barely campaigning
Posted by: | November 10, 2007 at 08:02 AM
It comes as no surprise that Young's supporter(s) above would like us all to shut up after all they cannot defend the congressman's actions. Not one of them has can deny that (a) Young knew Kiley was directly responsible for the death of a soldier in 2003 and that Young praised Kiley in 2004. (b) That Young voted to support Bush's veto of the Water Resource bill despite the face that is was of particular importance to Floridians.
Instead they employ personal attacks in an attempt to cover their failure to address the issues. This is America boys and girls and telling those who disagree with you to "shut up" is profoundly and fundamentally un-American. It may have worked for you in kindergarten but it has no place in political discourse.

Actually, Samm did pretty well against you, CW... how'd you do against him?
Posted by: | November 10, 2007 at 08:56 PM
Oh BTW 12:29 those hearings you spoke of took place after the WP outed the conditions at Walter Reed.
Posted by: ALW | November 11, 2007 at 08:34 AM
ALW YOu don't know what you are talking about again. The WP got the story BECAUSE of Young. They interviewed him for weeks before they finally let the story out. don't speak unless you know what you are talking about. Young worked with The WP and the Times on this story. Your an imbecile.
