Crist names David Foy as policy director
Gov. Charlie Crist today announced David Foy will serve as his policy director. Foy had been chief of staff for the state Office of Insurance Regulation. “I am confident that David’s commitment to the state and his experience will allow him to immediately begin contributing in a meaningful way," Crist said in a statement.
Foy will replace Chanta Combs, who joined the administration in January and served as policy director on the Crist campaign. It is the latest departure from the Crist administration. Last week, Crist "counselor" Chris Kise left to return to private law practice.

where did chanta go?

this is amazing, like rats leaving a sinking ship. When's George leaving?

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Yawn..........

Like dropping insurance premiums like a rock?

I am confident David will do an excellent job!

David Foy is a great choice. Professional, knowledgeable, credible and well respected.

Congrats David. Will miss you at OIR, but does this mean we will have to deal with Abby now?

Can someone verify that this picture was taken at the employee entrance to the governor's office?

How could you blame any of these people leaving ? Would you want to work for the wicked witch herself, ARLENE ?
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 11:57 AM
“Foy had been chief of staff for the state Office of Insurance Regulation.”
Great… reward incompetence and ineffectiveness with a promotion. Maybe Chuck is a Republicon afterall!
Any day now, Chuck will designate all the little islands in the intercostal waterways of Florida, as terrorist cell hideouts, and attack them using johnboats and birdshot.
“The cockroaches, palmetto bugs, and hermit crabs are enemy combatants and must be stopped.”, said Chuck, “If we don’t fight them there, we’ll have to fight them here.”

11:45-- that is pretty funny. It has been a revolving door since Jim and Vivian left. Maybe she saw the writing on the wall. Inquiring minds want to know.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 11:59 AM
Leave Arlene alone already.. she is what she is and has been for a while. The problem is no one has done anything about it and let's her get away with it all. Don't blame her.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 12:01 PM
Good riddance, Dave Foy.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 12:02 PM
Things must be pretty bad if the Crist office is bringing in old Gallagher folks. ehhhhhh
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 12:06 PM
It has been 37 minutes since the deadline I set for Arlene to leave the Governor's office. Can someone confirm that she is gone?
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 12:36 PM
Bringing in a gallagher guy proves CC doesn't hold a grudge. Unlike some on this blog.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 12:40 PM
Let's start a pool based upon when CC's favorability rating is going to drop like a rock. He has effectively muted the Democrats and the media by his superficial pandering on their pet issues, eg solar pool heater. When do all of the people realize that they are being fooled all of the time? Name the month or circumstances that will cause CC's popularity to plummet. I pick October 2008 after taxes fail to drop, the state is torn by the competing tax interest, the insurance market is hit by a couple of hurricanes, the private carriers abandon the state and leave behind underfunded pups, the housing market continues to tank and shrink the tax base, a few of Charlie's cronies are have had time enough to get caught with their hands in the state cookie jar - and the Democrats finally realize that during a national election they have to blame Charlie for the Florida mess, the Republican core abandons Crist for new leadership such as Rubio. Poor Charlie. He really is a nice guy, but........

I thought Crist was still in South America. What's the urgency announcing this appointment when Crist is way down there. This timing looks like the house is on fire while he's out of town.

All Deputy level or higher...
Jim Rimes
Vivian Myrtetus
Anthony DeLuise
Chris Kise
Chanta Combs
Stephanie Smith
Eileen Haloran
That is not even counting the staffers. Who is next???
Must be something in the air.

Also his scheduler left very quietly in midsummer.

David is a terrific addition to the Governor's office. He has been great to work with, and will be missed at OIR.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 01:13 PM
Please all of these people worked very hard on the campaign and during the first 10 months of office. I am sure most are just looking to return to a normal life.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 01:13 PM
Dave Foy is a brilliant man and is an excellent choice for Christ's Policy Director. He will do great things for Florida!
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 01:14 PM
11:16 George doesn't desert a sinking ship - until he secures his next berth.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 01:24 PM
I pick the month the Republican National COnvention is held and the nominee DOESN'T pick Charlie for VP. At that point he will lose interest in politica altogether, having failed to achieve his only goal: to move ever higher in elected office.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 01:27 PM
Brilliant is NOT a word I would use to describe Dave Foy.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 01:27 PM
1254, Only Kise and Rimes were deputy level. These people are leaving for other opportunities which is exactly how it has always worked. Happened that way with Jeb - remember how many deputies and comm directors and leg affairs directors he went through? That's the way it goes. People work hard then move on to the private sector. The ship is cruising along just fine, but I'm glad so many of you are taking such a keen interest.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 01:31 PM
I think he/she meant Deputy as in Deputy Director of External Affairs, Deputy Policy Director.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 01:49 PM
Given the 1:31 posting, clearly Erin is back from Brazil.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 01:51 PM
arlene must be hearing footsteps. she's more jittery than usual. it must be coming.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 01:57 PM
1:51....I knew I smelled something rotten.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 02:01 PM
I wonder if Erin realizes that she's a joke. The agency communications directors find her self-importance tiresome and the press corps have running jokes about her lack of professionalism and experience. All of them were here before her and will be here long after she fades away into irrelevance. It's sad, she thinks she is a really big deal, and people are laughing at her.

Welcome to your nightmare David.
You should see if you can get your old job back before it's too late.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 02:28 PM
1:31
you must be on crack.
Jeb's top people were with him throughout most of his first term (and quite a few went almost all the way through his second).
although we may have had some philosophical and ideological differences most were seasoned political pros compared to Charlie's kiddie brigade which has little real world experience to bring to the table.
the real policy people stay for at least one term then maybe take advantage of their connections during the second term.
bailing out after ten long months? must be some problems in that office.

ALL OF YOU LAZY, SELF-ABSORBED, PUNK-A*S STAFFERS NEED TO GET BACK TO WORK. THIS IS NOT WHAT THE TAXPAYERS OF FLORIDA PAY YOU FOR, YOU PINHEADED MONKEY-STICKS!
KEEP IT UP… AND I’LL CALL YOUR MOTHERS AND TELL THEM WHAT YOU REALLY DO IN YOU HOTEL ROOMS LATE AT NIGHT!
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 02:45 PM
Termie is wrong again, specifically about the tenure of Jeb's top people. Look up the facts first.
Sally, Cory, Rancourt. Two years max. David R. didnt even stay a year.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 02:48 PM
Yeah, um, "man" is not really a word I would use to describe Dave Foy either.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 02:53 PM
Don't forget Sayfie, Plante, Dempsey, not to mention OPB changes. It is natural. If it were really a problem we would hear about from more than just the regular buzz blog malcontents who are wallowing in their own mediocrity and can't resist trying to drag others with them. Yes, I mean you termie.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 02:55 PM
So Cristi is actually back in Florida? He's done with his Brazil-Iran debacle waste of a trip?
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 02:58 PM
maybe Charlie's office can take the old Zeppelin song title "in through the out door" as their mantra.
how much do these people work anyway?
Charlie's rarely in the office.
I'm sure he'll be nowhere to be found until session starts.
when's the next junket?
Posted by: terminator | November 09, 2007 at 03:01 PM
Foy will do excellent work - he is professional, thorough, and insightful
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 03:10 PM
ALL OF YOU LAZY, SELF-ABSORBED, PUNK-A*S STAFFERS NEED TO GET BACK TO WORK. I REPEAT!
THIS IS NOT WHAT THE TAXPAYERS OF FLORIDA PAY YOU FOR, YOU PINHEADED MONKEY-STICKS!
KEEP IT UP… AND I’LL CALL YOUR MOTHERS AND TELL THEM WHAT YOU REALLY DO IN YOU HOTEL ROOMS LATE AT NIGHT!

Very true 2:27. I can't understand why the press gives this administration a free pass. Open government, yeah right... only when it serves them. These reporters need to start taking the governor to task when questions are not answered appropriately. Blog entries will not cut it. Let the people know that this administration is simply full of hot air. Thanking people for their service time and time again will not lead this state to a better place.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 03:40 PM
Yeah I don't think the policy directors under Jeb stayed more than a year each... But someone correct me if I'm wrong!
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 03:41 PM
Donna Arduin was the director of OPB the entire first term (if not longer). Greg Turbeville was the first "policy director" and he was there, under Donna, for quite a long time.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 03:51 PM
3:36 Arza...is that you?
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 03:55 PM
GET BACK TO WORK WASTING OUR MONEY!... YOU PINHEADED, WALKING STAFF INFECTIONS!
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 05:03 PM
Incorrect 3:51 pm. Brian Yablonski was the first policy director.
Posted by: | November 09, 2007 at 05:07 PM
Yes, there has been an announcement as to someone taking over Chanta's former position. However, there has been no announcement as to Chanta departing from the Crist administration. Either this is an oversight, or Chanta is transferring to a new position.
Posted by: zenator | November 09, 2007 at 05:24 PM
Sorry. I just read the press release in full. It uses the magic language that "Chanta will be missed" so it appears that she has left the administration.
