Ginny's and Connie's voter explosion
Check out the relative population growth of the country's Congressional districts since the 2002 redictricting. Florida CDs 5 and 14 rank 4th and 9th nationally:
Fastest Growing Net Gain Percentage
Ariz 6 Flake (R) 232,704 +36.3%
Ariz. 2 Franks (R) 218, 296 +34.0
Nev. 3 Porter (R) 213,847 +32.1
Fla. 5 Brown-Waite (R) 172,046 +26.9
Calif. 44 Calvert (R) 151,903 +23.8
Texas 10 McCaul (R) 152,433 +23.4
Texas 22 Lampson (R) 147,482 +22.6
Texas 3 Johnson, Sam (R) 145,683 +22.4
Fla. 14 Mack (R) 138,326 +21.6
Calif. 45 Bono (R) 138,013 +21.6

Does this mean they will eventually carve out new districts near by?

Does that (R) indicate which party is responsible for this relentless assault on Democracy?

Are Mack and Bono reproducing? Is this reflected in their net gain?

That's right, Brooksville is the next New York City...Brown-Waite is a force to be reckoned with.

Interesting that only R districts are on the tops of that list. Would be interesting to see the other end of that list...

The population growth has come to a screeching halt in GBW's district.
New Yorkers are discovering it is too expensive to live in Florida.
GBW please go back to New York too.

If there were ever a need to replace two corporate puppets…

12:36.....They're corporate puppets? That indicates some level of intelligence on their parts. Not these two.

Must be some good places to live with so many people moving there. What a coincidence!

Notice the trend? Democrat-inclined areas generally lose voters, who presumably move away to seek better jobs and schools, while GOP inclined areas generally gain these congressional district-immigrants. In short, were it not for Democrat ideas being put into action, there would be no need for reapportionment. No one would be moving to seek a better life elsewhere. Perhaps GOP congressional offices can adopt the Ellis Island motto for their districts. "Bring me your tired, your poor and your missrepresented..."

Pretty funny how Mack and Bono are right in there together, although her district skews more liberal than his, despite the (also-shared) Repub. majority.

More seats will be coming to Florida...

Stewart-
The only trend that I notice is the perpencity of neocon who have their heads so far up their sphinctor regions that they try to spin a positive out of everything.
Notice that the gains do not show party affiliation?
I bet you think this has nothing to do with the GOP redistricting last go-around so that they could have their little protected kingdoms. Why doesn't the GOP support fair redistricting based on region and population???
That right, the trend is for more voters to align with the DEMs so if there were fair districts the GOP would out on those same regions you have your head stuck in!

Redistricting has to be based on population due to the 14th amendment to the US constitution. The Supreme Court has laid out a process for determining whether the reapportionment is a political question or otherwise...

Funny how you didn't see Democrats calling for fairer practices for redistricting when they were in control of most state legislatures, but now they cry about Republicans taking advantage of it.

2:50 you must be a D stuck in a crappy district. I wonder if you can blog your way out of those problems...

12:26 Brown Waite is a liar and the biggest hypocrite in politics. Her own home county hates her because they know her. She is the slimiest politician there ever was. She should be thrown out of office. She lies constantly. Phoney is to good a word for this slick creep.

Fasano should run against her. She needs to be put out of office.

Where is the connection Ginny Brown-Wait? Do you think by taxing tobacco you would not be supporting the tobacco industry? What, are you afraid to tax an industry that harms people? If we tax the tobacco industry doesn’t mean we going to tax every industry for the public good. O, I get it do not tax corporations! This is your ideology. We sent you to Washington to represent us.
I can’t believe you said this on the floor of the U.S. House on October 25, 2007.
“It's a magnet for illegal aliens. We have income disregards in here that will encourage states to disregard anything at all. There are no guidelines. They can disregard any form of income, child support, childcare costs, anything that they want, to get to that 300% of poverty level. This is not about supporting the President and the override.”
And, this
"Madam Speaker is absolutely right. This is about the children. Like her I'm a mother and a grandmother. Wasn't it interesting that she couldn't use the word illegal. It was undocumented. Whether she prefers to call them undocumented or illegal, this is a magnet, which will draw even more people, illegally; I don't have a problem using that word, illegally into this country. "If children really are what my friends on the other side of the aisle care about, then why did they hold up this vote for two weeks? Now kids on November 11, unless we can really, really compromise, they will be without healthcare. I think that is cruel.”
Let me give ”you” a little background information about what families are going through in your district. Things are slowing down at a steady pace. Many families with children who have been here for years are leaving. While new families from south Florida are moving in. Everyone is looking for hope. I believe the policies you support have effected us in many ways:
1. Big box stores have hurt small businesses
2. Insurance premiums have gone up
3. Bank loans are getting harder to get
4. Corporations control our economy
5. Family income is dropping
We shouldn’t put up with this kind of misguided thinking. If a family spends their income on Insurance, child support, childcare costs and qualifies for S-CHIP good! Let us help our family’s not just corporations. We give corporations thousands in tax benefits, but you will not even give a family a little health care. You put corporations ahead of families.
