Jeb Bush on the candidates

Bushinformalportrait02 Today former Gov. Jeb Bush chatted with Hoover Institution's Peter Robinson on a webcast called Uncommon Knowledge, check it out here. He chats about the candidates about 28 minutes into the interview. Bush said that he's given advice to all the candidates privately saying that they should "be genuine."

He wouldn't endorse anyone but he gave his two cents on the Republican candidates' greatest strengths.

Rudy Giuliani: "Direct, sees the world the way it is, and he's direct and he communicates well and he has high energy and tremendous personality."

Fred Thompson: "Committed conservative." He added that Thompson is "new at the game."

John McCain: "His courage. I was in my bed watching this with my wife and I got out of bed and started cheering," when McCain mentioned the woodstock line during the last debates.

Mitt Romney: "Intellectual curiosity. . .He's incredibly smart and asks the questions necessary to find that common ground for the next challenges we face, which politics is not very good at right now."

Mike Huckabee: "I like him. He's a great speaker and clear-minded about the importance of moral principles."

Comments

Will Jeb endorse at all prior to the Florida primary??

Jeb who? Sounds familiar....

Remember

This is the man that created the mess that we are in right now.

If he should run for president, his record alone will defeat any chance he has

Thanks Jeb, for

Higher taxes (you are tax and spend no matter what you say)

Higher insurance

A broken residential real estate market

You did one thing well, when you appeared on TV with Max Mayfield to discuss hurricanes. You looked good then....

BUT THAT IS IT!!!!

And people, believe me,

Our real estate market is broken because of the "Cut and run" republicans and democrats in Tallahassee and the liberal intoxicted local politicians who will spend any amount of money on anything without regard for spending reduction

Genuine? Really, Jeb? It's great advice, but the source is a bit surprising.

Well, if he is sitting in bed at 8pm, then he surely is not up for the rigors of being president.

Wonder if he sleeps commando?

I'll bet they're all cringing in fear of getting his endorsement. Jeb your neocon brother is the worst president ever and you helped him steal Florida. WE HAVE NOY FORGOTTEN!

Ok Jeb, I’ve had just about all I can take from you. So, if your not going to shut up and GO AWAY… then I guess we’ll just have to be sure and translate your BS into the truth.

So… shall we dance?

“Rudy Giuliani: "Direct, sees the world the way it is…”

… From an Oedipus, incestuous, cross-dressing, exploiting the deaths of Americans for political gain… point of view.

Fred Thompson: “… He added that Thompson is "new at the game."

… if you think American Democracy is “a game”, that is… I know you Bush boys do.

John McCain: “…I got out of bed and started cheering," when McCain mentioned the woodstock line during the last debates.”

… Yes; because we all know that no one in the Bush family would ever be involved with anything as hippie as doing drugs, huh?

Mitt Romney: "Intellectual curiosity. . .”

… Which isn’t bad for a dude named after a piece of sports equipment.

Mike Huckabee: “…He's a great speaker and clear-minded about the importance of moral principles."

… Of course; because we all know that no one in the Bush family would ever engage in any sort of immoral behavior, huh Jeb?

This a guy who has sons working for the Giuliani, Thompson and Romney campaigns. He'll endorse whoever promises him a cabinet spot.

4:11 Going from Governor of a large state to a cabinet position is generally the end of your political career. One usually goes from cabinet to governor.

Jebbie is never going to be president; his political career pretty much is at an end. He should just stick to the corporate boards he pretends he's on.

4:04 You crack me up. Does Jeb sleep commando style?

But a good question, let's hope not for the sake of his wife if he is prone to bounding out of bed and then jumping up and down. Almost sounds like he had a private "Howard Dean moment"

YYYYYYEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH.

Start a thread on Jeb Bush and the usual bunch of wankers show up to spout their nonsense and slander and generally show themselves to be complete idiots.

4:27 and the Jeb apologists magically appear from the caves they dwell in to defend "the man". Perhaps if you owned a new home in south florida, you would think otherwise.

Thank you Jeb...you have have been a great governor for our fine state!

Yawn.....Jeb who? Think of the last time Kirk, Askew, Graham, or Martinez said anything worth hearing... Bottom line, who care what a former governor of Florida thinks? Would've included Chiles, but as we all know, he ain't talking...

To the person who said, ....."This a guy who has sons working for the Giuliani, Thompson and Romney campaigns. He'll endorse whoever promises him a cabinet spot"......You should do research before you post. Jeb has one son and he is married, living in Dallas, TX and working as a lawyer. Also, it's "whomever" not "whoever".

GO JEB

3:53 - if Jeb is responsible for the high prop taxes and high insurance premiums, then Clinton is responsible for 9/11. like dat?

Were the first dozen comments all written by the same DummyRAT?

hey fellow buzzers - this blog post made front page DRUDGE

Gee, no mention of the only republican candidate worth voting for. Why am I not surprised?

RON PAUL!

Anyone who blames Jeb Bush for the real estate problem is a complete idiot and should not even have the right to vote

Oh my, here come the Paulians....run forest...run!!!

What a bunch of whiney babies dems are. Man I get tired of listening to crying and bitching like a bunch of shcool girls. Say something meaningful for a change. Acturally think before you post.

Jeb was the best, wish he would run for President

so I can't spell...lol..you get the message!!!

Thanks for not mentioning the only candidate worth a damn:
RON PAUL!
It's OK...
I'll do it..

RON PAUL
RON PAUL
RON PAUL

Youtube RON PAUL...
VOTE RON PAUL IN 2008!

Here's my quote on Ron Paul: "He cured my apathy"...

WATCH OUT! IF JEB LIKES THEM THEY MUST BE CROOKS.

RON PAUL IS THE ONLY HONEST ONE IN THE BUNCH.

Couldn't agree with you more Butch. They claim free speech but try to shout down anyone who has a differnt point of view. But I am offended with your school girl comment. My 13 yr old daughter doesn't come close to the bitching and moaning coming from the left side of the aisle.

Why are liberals so nasty and full of lies? You lost Florida in 2000 because the Supreme Court wouldn't allow you to steal the election away from the voters. Get over it and get a life.

On the true conservative web sites Tancredo and especially Duncan Hunter score higher on the polls than the above candidates.

Paul is a nut ball troofer!! I agree with his fiscal policies, but that is it!! Having the "I'm taking my ball and going home" foreign policy will not make our image nor our world problems go away.

Enough with Admiral Stockdale..er, I mean Ron Paul. His old & loony. Next.

By the way, Jeb Bush was a great governor & he would make a great president to take over the New World Order from his brother. A little sarcasm for the conspiracy nutjobs out there in their basements.

On the true conservative web sites Tancredo and especially Duncan Hunter score higher on the polls than the above candidates.

Very true Eldon, but those two just don't have the money behind them unfortunately. I am begining to like Huckabee more and more. And he is gaining traction.

At least JEB can figure out a butterfly ballot unlike the liberals.

I enjoyed reading about Mr. Bush. I wish Iowa had a governor like him. The liberal idiots elected Chet Culver. And the spending is WAY out of control. And no, you cannot blame Jeb Bush for the real estate issues.

Jen gives me gas... pherrrrrrrrrrrrrt!

If you are a liberal you can and do blame any GOP member for anything. As a liberal, you don't have to be bothered with those pesky things called "facts". Fake but accurate dontcha know?? Just walk in lockstep and repeat the MoveOn and Kos talking points.

I, too, like Huckabee. I'll be glad when one the candidates I really like makes an unstoppable charge. I just don't know if Rudy or John are what the rpubs need right now. I think a true conservative can still win big time.

JEB RAN THE STATE OF FLORIDA INTO
a 2 Billion dollar deficit. Found all kinds of ways to cut fees and taxes for the wealthy.
Only one in four students who starts High School in Florida graduates. Taxes on our cheese box homes has zoomed, property insurance has doubled or tripled. The air is flithy and I could go on and on but I assure you there is a special place reserved in HELL for Jeb Bush.

Facts mean nothing to dems. As long as they hate Bush....that's all that matters. Really sad state of affairs in this country when hate rules the day. A good reason to make sure Hitleray doesn't get elected. Can you imagine??? Plum scary it is.

1.) Kind of sad when you realize "Free Speech" has devolved into this!

2.) Kind of sad when you realize our Government represents the people in "all" respects.

3.) Kind of sad when you realize the amalgamation of all Republicans and all of the Democrats would not constitute a fuctioning party, let alone the possibility of intelligent legislation.

What does Governor Bush have to say about Ron Paul? His poll numbers in NH are above both Huckabee and Thompson.

WOW can liberals whine!! Let's see....what else can we blame Jeb for?

5:11pm/Kevin wrote: "You should do research before you post. Jeb has one son ..."

You should do YOUR research. Jeb has two sons: George P. Bush and Jeb, Jr.

Didnt Jeb say nice things about Tom Lee too during the last election?

Run for the hills Rudi, this guy is the plague!

I guess we know what the Bush spawn are doing tonight!

The state's data show Florida's graduation rate increased 0.3 of a percentage point from 71.6 percent the previous year and is 11 percentage points higher than 1998-99, when Bush took office.

Source is the St. Petersburg Times

Care to tell some more lies Phil??

See, Libs can just make up stats as pass them off as fact to forward their agenda.

Where is Ron Paul on Jeb's list of Republicans candidates. Ron Paul has been a Republican for 30 years, what Jeb can't give him the respect he deserves?

RON PAUL is the only true conservative Republican!!!

Phil: "Only one in four students who starts High School in Florida graduates. Taxes on our cheese box homes has zoomed, property insurance has doubled or tripled. The air is flithy and I could go on and on but I assure you there is a special place reserved in HELL for Jeb Bush."

What was the graduation rate before Jeb Bush became governor? Have most of your education leaders been democrats or Republican?

Great to hear from you Gov. Jeb, and thanks for all you did for Florida, like; Improved our schools, lowered taxes, strong economy, you brought new good paying jobs in to the state, stream lined the government waist, help the tourism industry rebound, well I could go on. But the best thing you did for Floridians was manage, direct, and help us through our worst hurricane season, and as someone personally affected by that, I thank you! As for your critics who paid to much for their homes, and didn't insure, I suggest they take their frustration out on the developers and sales people who suckered them into paying to much for it. You were a great Govenor.

It's to bad Jeb didn't comment on the only real conservative running: Ron Paul. Go Ron Paul!

Regarding a few things said above - Jeb has 2 sons and 1 daughter.
It's not 1 in 4 students that graduate high school. Statistics put it at 1 in 2. Whatever the stats are, as a mother I pay attention to what my kids are doing every day and they are getting a great education. You can throw all the money you want at the schools, parents have to do their part at home. Property insurance is a hurricane problem.
Property taxes - are horrendous - though I wouldn't put the blame on our former governor - the blame can be shared my everyone in government in Florida.
Lastly, the air around here is mighty fine with all these ocean breezes!

RuPaul is a joke. He is the Garden Gnome of the Republican Party.

5:11 (Kevin) - Maybe you shouldn't cast the first stone in comment criticism.

First, Jeb doesn't have three sons, but he doesn't have only one either. George Prescott is a lawyer in Texas who supports Thompson, and Jeb, Jr. works for Giuliani in Florida. See http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2007/10/the_younger_jeb_bush_picks_a_h.html The article also mentions that many of J.E.B.'s close friends are working for Romney.

And as for the petty attack on grammar, he was actually correct: use whoever when the split sentences will end with him and start with he. See http://www.grammarbook.com/grammar/whoever.asp In this case, "He'll endorse whoever promises him a cabinet spot" becomes "He'll endorse him. He promises him a cabinet spot." Therefore whoever is correct.

Don't you just love it when people who aren't politically astute enough to even discuss politics weigh in on the best Governor Florida ever had?

For the person who asked, one more thing we came blame Jeb Bush for is not ripping out his mother's ovaries while he was in there and had the chance. He could have saved us from the worst POS POTUS in history.

Sorry. The title for Worst POS POTUS in history is reserved for jimmah carter.

These fascist dems are all upset with Jeb because he prevented Gore, the democrats, and the kangaroo Florida "supreme" court from stealing the election. Jeb is an American Hero.

hey evelyn victor...Jeb is Dubya's YOUNGER brother.

Wow I thought we had a bunch of wackos in California. It's no wonder why you had issues voting. You were lucky to have Jeb, we have Arnold.

Why is it that people feverishly try to defend losers associated with their political team? Good ol US Football Politics! My team vs. your team. rah rah rah... The presidential election has turned into a dog and pony show, and we loose out on candidates who can actually help our country by huddling around the corporate puppets who will only maintain the status quo, leaving us with dumbed down do nothing carpetbaggers.

Bush Co are all rotten scoundrels. The day die hard Bush defenders pull their heads out of the sand is the day they regain some credibility. Till then, it's like having to listen to a Scientology nut ramble about aliens…. Whatever….

Ron Paul is legitimate, and that will be his downfall.

Are you people idiots......blaming the housing problem on Jeb???? The friggin housing problem came from the banks and home flippers...... As for the taxes and the insurance, remember that Florida had a much smaller population up until a few years back and the tax law is way behind other states, and after four hurricanes insurance is a mess. And In case you silly dems havent realized it, it takes a heck of a long time to correct all these things. Now if you bought too expensive of a home using an ARM and now you cant afford it........well......TOO BAD, SO SAD! Do you want me to play my violin???? Its real tiny!!!!

Butch and True Conservative - if I show you the short pier will you please take the long walk?

I think Jeb was the best governor Florida has had!!! Lets all remember how Jeb made sure to declare us a state of emergency prior to any hurricane.....this saved us a lot of heartache as we've seen in Louisiana with their dem government.....

To the poster who put "WE HAVE NOY FORGOTTEN!" ... if you're going to make an intelligent comment on the subject matter, learn how to spell. Otherwise, don't waste my time.

If you don't like it here in Florida, GO THE HELL BACK NORTH.

Let's review the record

1. Jeb allowed property taxes to spin out of control. Stop blaming hurricanes and growth. Taxes have been skyrocketing since 2003. He did nothing to stop the liberal freespenders at the local level

2. The hurricane insurance mess was not created by Crist..... and it was never addressed by Jeb at any point. He punted on this issue.

3. Water, water everywhere, but nare a drop to drink. We can thank Mr. Bush for our water situation. Crist did not create this mess

Bottom Line: All this crap developed under Jeb's lengthy watch. He was in charge, he needs to take responsibility. He did little to nothing to solve any of these massive problems.

Presidential material. Maybe, but he'll have to overcome a record that is less than stellar. Nice guy, likable guy, but every single person in this state is paying a "Jeb Bush Tax" thanks to inaction and lack of leadership on some very important issues.

Jeb would be a great president If he ever decides to run he has my vote. Best qualified of any cantidate, democrat or Republican. You Bush hater's keep sipping your socialist koolaid. One day in the not so distant future we will it will be President Jeb Bush. Can't wait.

Jeb's statesman like comments on the Republican field sounds like a man running for President and as for 2008, a Republican uniter. I would like his thoughts though on Dr. Ron Paul - by far the most interesting and outspoken candidate in this race.

timtan - Hello! Hello! Is anyone home?

Jeb was great for Florida.
The Cubans are what is wrong with Florida.
-vspotlounge.com

Matt, he did not comment on wacky Ron Paul, BECAUSE HE HAD NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT RON PAUL. RON PAUL IS NOT EVEN ROUNDING ERROR IN THIS RACE.

You dems only look at the mess and blame Jeb...

The property taxes were based on an old ideology for slower times.....not the insane ramp up we saw over the lastg couple years.... This is not his fault because he didnt write the code....most likely it was some stupid democrat.

Next....the insurance mess was a mess....its not his fault, though I agree he could have approached it more while he was here.

As for water....give me a break!!!! They've been working on that problem for years..... Their desalinization plant is bearly working, and that was started before Jeb....

You bush haters, go back to your gay pride parade. Anyone who has the gull to badmouth our commander in chief is either colored or a queer. Go back north liberal scum. We have a way of taking care of your kind of folk here in the south! Yeah, you heard me right!

Notice that he stayed away from Ron Paul? Every Republican (and Democrat) wishes Paul would go away.
Not gonna happen.
Not now, nor a year from now.

Hey Pete.....

Will you just shut up about Ron Paul.....HES NOT EVEN IN THE RUNNING!!!!

Its gonna be Rudy by my estimation.

TIMTAN

Jeb was the leader. All these issues ballooned on his watch. They did not happen in the last year. Taxes began skyrocketing in 2003. Where was he? Asleep at the wheel? Worrying about wedge issues and his base?

C'mon, gimme a break. Crist inherited a total and utter mess from Jeb. Jeb had a chance to steer the boat in the right direction. He chose not to. Now Charlie has to orchestrate massive course corrections.

Jeb certainly is a nice guy. None of this is personal. It is just about a lack of leadership on citizen pocketbook issues.

If his last name wasn't Bush, he'd be the GOP frontrunner right now. Very weak GOP field currently.

Okay......now that you sound reasonable... I will give you that it was on his watch.... But.. Quick question.

Would you stand in front of a fully loaded moving train thinking you would stop it??? I doubt you would.

This housing problem was nearly overnite. Everyday I woke up the prices had gone up another $20k and the lenders were handing out loans they knew people couldnt afford.

In case you dont realize it....its not that easy to change the private industry and the banking.

I give you the taxes and the insurance, but not the housing bubble.....

Also, in case you didnt know, California went through the same situation many years ago...

It's time for Rudy McRomney to drop out.

Only democrats are cheering them on.

Why no mention of the Dr.? He'll talk about Huckabee!!??? Talk about the Dr.!!!!

Ron Paul 2008

the world has a "jewish problem" which is manifested most clearly in the former america as it was in russia and germany from whence this scum from odessa and krakow crawled........every jew a PEARL.

Hey Jeb,

Why did you not mention Ron Paul?

Are you in denial or something?

Ron Paul is going to fix alot of things that your brother messed up on... of which I feel part responsible for because I voted for your brother not once, but twice.

Come on, Jeb. Help us make amends for what has happened to this country. Tell your brother to start listening to Ron Paul.

Go Ron Paul!

Hey HAL,

Take a look at the numbers......NO ONE IS PAYING ATTENTION TO RON PAUL.......HE HAS 1 PERCENT

Maybe he would be good.....but he has no numbers... Its going to be Hillary (god help us if she wins), or Rudy.

"The presidential election has turned into a dog and pony show, and we loose out on candidates who can actually help our country by huddling around the corporate puppets who will only maintain the status quo, leaving us with dumbed down do nothing carpetbaggers.

Bush Co are all rotten scoundrels. The day die hard Bush defenders pull their heads out of the sand is the day they regain some credibility. Till then, it's like having to listen to a Scientology nut ramble about aliens…. Whatever…."

WHAT HE SAID!

no taxes to ZOG.....starve the beast....convert all money to gold and silver bullion.......give nothing to ZOG.

I wish Jeb had the last name "Smith." The Weekley Standard called him the best governor in the country, and I agree with them. Jeb has an incredible record of performance and competence. Once the truth that we're winning and will win in Iraq and the greater GWOT runs detour around drive-by media, the W Legacy will be cemented and Jeb will have a path to the oval office in '12 or '16.

Timtan - No numbers? - what about all the straw poll results? - besides, all "potential voteer" polls dont take independents or dems in to account....only "likely repubs"

What about the largest donations from the military personel?

What about his huuuuuge loyal fanbase.....

what about the blatant media bias towards him??????????????

Jeb ... you're clueless.... VOTE for Duncan HUNTER

(I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney than ride in a car with Ted Kennedy (glub-glub-glub)

Jeb ... you're clueless.... VOTE for Duncan HUNTER

(I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney than ride in a car with Ted Kennedy (glub-glub-glub))

Hal,

It doesnt matter what people have given to Paul.....he is not a household name...and most people arent considering him. Sorry to say that, but thats the truth.

Oh, I feel so puny... I am one of those "No numbers" folks who happens to support Ron Paul.

Woe is me... I keep reading that there just ain't many people out there like me. They say that it is that way because I am one those "No numbers" type of folks... You know the ones... the ones who nobody wants to count... the ones who are ignored everyday and never noticed before. Yep, that's right folks... Us Ron Paul supporters are nothing but a bunch of ghosts that nobody else can see. We walk right through people and they don't notice a thing. We are INVISIBLE!

We Ron Paul supporters live in a different dimension! We see them, but they don't see us!

Or, is it perhaps that they don't see us because they are in such big denial that accepting the truth is just too painful. Yeah, you know what I am talking about... keep ignoring that pain and it will just go away... Keep ignoring those pesky little RP critters. If we just keep pretending that they don't exist, then maybe they will go away... yeah, that's it!

WAKE UP.

Go Ron Paul!

There you go, David from Texas!!! You got it right!

Jeb Bush not mentioning Ron Paul shows just how far out of touch he is with what is happening in this country.

Ron Paul will be a household name in the not too distant future.

Those who continue to belittle Ron Paul will have egg all over their face on election day.

Go Ron Paul!

Well, well, it looks as though the 7 people that support Ron Paul have been busy tonight making all of these entries under so many names. These 4 guys, 2 gals, and 1 misc. are putting in the overtime tonight!

Hillary in '08. Jeb in '16. Continue the Bush Clinton Dynasty!!

Hey Nappy,

I am dying here!!!! SOO TRUE! All 7 of them......ROFLMAO...

Gee!!

I did not realize it was hate Jeb Bush day!

Quoting: "[Jeb] did one thing well, when you appeared on TV with Max Mayfield to discuss hurricanes. You looked good then...."

Oh yeah, wasn't that where the used a picture of Wilma Flintstone to talk about Hurricane Wilma?

That was pretty laughable.

"Well, well, it looks as though the 7 people that support Ron Paul have been busy tonight making all of these entries under so many names. These 4 guys, 2 gals, and 1 misc. are putting in the overtime tonight!"

You got it all wrong! Have you not read the news today?

Those "7 people" that support Ron Paul are not actually people, but instead are electronic Ronbots... Did you not get the memo or the talking points?

What is even more incredible is that the designer of the Ronbot program is also non-human! What we have here is a giant leap in the evolution of artificial intelligence. A selfish computer program has decided to create Ronbots to mess with us.

Those Ronbots have even convinced me that I should vote for Ron Paul...

Go Ron Paul!!!

Jeb Bush has poopoo pants!

One more reason why so many voters will be avoiding those candidates and instead voting for Dr. Ron Paul in the Republican primary.

Shame on all the liars, crooks, and villains.

Never trust anyone who has a first name as his last name

he forgot the only REAL republican - Alan Keyes - how sad is that?!

Timtan - I did not mention the housing bubble. I only mentioned taxes and insurance.

Why is it than in L.A. i see home-made signs above freeways, stickers and supporters everywhere.....why does he draw thousands.....? I dont see grass roots Gillary or Rudy supporters ANYWHERE!!!

Why are people trying to label us crazy for supporting a life-long advocate of the constitution.....?? That's what this contry started from and we've strayed very very far in fear of the boogy-man.

Maybe you're just scared cause he would cut all the useless jobs from the gov't system....or revert to a real free-market economy AWAY from the Fed.....He is an intelligent economist and a stand up guy....

I've donated thousands...The other candidates are null to me.....ESPECIALLY HILLARY!!!

Hal is actually the computer from 2001 Space Odyssey.

I think that Jeb is right on! Giuliani is the brightest and the most able to bring not only normal Republicans but also Independents, women and some Blue Dog Democrats. Thompson overrated. Romney nice guy, I am not sure he could stand up to the "Nazi Mafia" style of Hillary Clinton, the anointed Queen of the Dems. McCain is old. Ron Paul is in line with Kucinich (will never happen) and the others (Huckabee included) are not ready for Prime Time. The Liberals have overrated, under qualified, dumbed down candidates. I hope that Giuliani can remove those candidates "masks" by ‘08 election.

no - i'm pissed, dedicated and successful.....I'm so tired of the political process as it is and the blind left-right b.s. that happens

Everyone is so worked up about labels instead of issues.....

like, why do we have a Private bank called the Federal Reserve.....why do we have to spend spend spend to keep bases all over the world....why do we invade preemptively......why do we damage our civil liberties to attempt to gain security......why do the people of this country demand gov't intervention in their lives from 'cradle to grave'?

Wow, big surprise! He likes all the Jew-supported candidates. I bet he likes Hillary and Barack too just to ensure that Mexicans will be coddled and hate-speech laws will be enacted to put all those white people in jail and to allow the federal reserve to turn our dollar into crap.

Ron Paul! Ron Paul! Ron Paul!

Down with the IRS!
Down with the Jew!
Up with the constitution!
Up with our founding fathers!
Up with our prosperity!
Return of the white man and sanity to our government!

Former Senator Fred Thompson is the only candidate that gets it. He makes decisions based on principles. Principles don’t change. You have to stand for something and not change who you are based on the polls. That is what Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani have done and all of the Democrats do it. Give me a leader that will stand by his principles anyday versus someone that stands for everything.

I know many Republicans and conservatives that will stay home if Rudy Giuliani is the candidate. He does not represent our values as conservatives, and never will. Millionaire Mitt Romney is a Republican-in-name-only (RINO ) that simply has everything else and nothing to do. “I guess I’ll just try to buy the presidency”. The White House isn’t for sale! Conservatives will simply stay home and the Democrats will pick up additional seats in the House and probably get the 60 seats in the Senate they need to completely destroy our Country. Nice picture huh?

However, I think Fred can bring America back together, if that’s even possible. America needs a rebirth of patriotism and honor. Republicans also need a rebirth. President Reagan was our last rebirth and he can never be duplicated. Fred Thompson will bring his own down-to-earth common sense to this country. If a conservative runs as a conservative, he will win!

Think of it this way: Eight years of another Clinton White House? Now if that is not a sufficient enough reason to pull together as a nation, and fight this socialist liberal takeover of our government, what is?

Folks, we are in for the fight of our lives, just as our young men and women are fighting for our freedoms in Iraq and Afghanistan, we must fight for our nation right here and now! I truly believe Fred Thompson is the one man who can pull this nation back together! Rudy Giuliani will just tear us apart.

Fred on the Issues (from www.Fred08.com)

National Security
The first responsibility of government is to protect the American people, the homeland, and our way of life. Today we face the urgent threat of radical Islamic terrorists. Al Qaeda is committed to attacking us here at home, and wants to use weapons of mass destruction (WMD) to kill millions. We must never give them that opportunity. We must defeat the terrorists abroad, and that begins in Iraq and Afghanistan—the central fronts in this global war. We must show the world we have the will to fight and win. A weakened America - or an America that appears weaker - will only encourage further attacks. We must persevere. As Commander-in-Chief, the president must ensure the United States has the means to achieve victory. Presidential leadership requires talking to the American people about these stakes, mapping out a clear vision for success, and devising a comprehensive strategy for achieving it. I am committed to:
* A larger, more capable, and more modern military that can defeat terrorists, deter adversaries, and defend the U.S. and our interests.
* A missile defense system that can protect the U.S. and our allies from long-range ballistic missiles.
* An enhanced intelligence community, with robust human-intelligence capabilities, focused on terrorism and proliferation.
* A robust approach to homeland security that will protect our nation from terrorists and WMD, regardless of where they come from.
* A strengthened system of global alliances to better combat terrorists, proliferators, and traditional threats to our interests.
* A judicial system that deals with the realities of terrorists and unlawful enemy combatants.
Federal Budget and Spending/Budgetary Reform

In a few short years—not a generation from now—a fiscal tsunami that could imperil our security and economic prosperity will hit our nation and place an unfair burden of debt on our children and grandchildren. The tens of trillions of dollars in debt that will be accumulated over the next few decades will do immense harm to our economy. This burden is now estimated at $170,000 per person and $440,000 per family. Time is running out to address this looming crisis. We need market-based approaches to reform that guarantee benefits for those who need them and embrace personal responsibility and cost-effectiveness without raising taxes. Given the scope and urgency of this problem, and the burden it will place on our children, reform is not only an economic necessity, it is a moral imperative that requires action now. I am committed to:
* Opening the government’s fiscal books on this looming crisis for all to see and understand.
* Working with individuals of all political persuasions to develop a comprehensive solution to the pending fiscal crisis.
* Leading and making the hard choices necessary, to include cutting wasteful government spending, to safeguard our security, promote our prosperity, and protect our children and grandchildren from fiscal calamity.
Tax Reform
The U.S. tax code is broken and a burden on U.S. taxpayers and businesses, large and small. Today’s tax code is particularly hostile to savings and investment, and it shows. To make matters worse, its complexity is a drag on our productivity and economic growth. Moreover, taxpayers spend billions of dollars and untold hours each year filling out complicated tax returns, just so they can send more money to Washington, much of it for wasteful programs and the pet projects of special interests. We need lower taxes, and we need to let taxpayers keep more of their hard-earned dollars—they know best where and how to spend them. And we need to make the system simpler and fairer for all. To ensure America’s long term prosperity and economic security, I am committed to:
* Fundamental tax reform built on the principles of simplicity, fairness, and growth.
* A new tax code that gets the government out of our citizens’ pocketbooks, while enhancing U.S. competitiveness abroad.
Dissolution of the IRS as we know it.
Healthcare
Americans have the best healthcare in the world. Some, however, choose not be insured; others cannot afford it. Every American should be able to get health insurance coverage that is affordable, fully accessible, and portable. Coverage should meet their individual needs and put them in control. Those who propose a one-size-fits-all Washington-controlled program ignore the cost, inefficiency, and inadequate care that such a system offers. Access to affordable, portable health care can be made available for all Americans without imposing new mandates or raising taxes. Current government programs must also be streamlined and improved so that those who truly need help can get the health care they need. I am committed to a healthcare system that:
* Realigns programs and creates a system around individual consumers and patients by providing more information and more opportunities to choose affordable health care options that best meet their needs and those of their families.
* Improves the individual health of all Americans by shifting to a system that promotes cost-effective prevention, chronic-care management, and personal responsibility
* Modernizes delivery and administration of care by encouraging the widespread use of clinical best practices, medical information technology, and other innovations.
* Increases competition and consumer choice while streamlining regulations through free-market solutions that benefit individuals and reduce costs for employers.
* Promotes and speeds medical research and life-sciences innovation.
Government Effectiveness
Our government is outdated, inefficient, and wasteful. It is often unable to perform even the most basic tasks our citizens expect. It is no longer enough just to want limited government; the American people deserve more effective government. Given today’s challenges, we cannot afford—and shouldn’t accept—anything less than a nimble, effective, and efficient government that is able to focus its resources on the important issues facing our country. It must be able act on behalf of the American people and our national interests in a timely manner. The key to competent government is strong, committed leadership from the top. The key to good government is good people who are well-managed and put the national interest first. I am committed to:
* Attracting and rewarding the best Americans to serve in government and ensuring they have the authority and resources needed to get the job done.
* Fixing government accounting so tax dollars are properly spent and the American people know exactly what they are being spent on.
* Improving government performance by making agencies accountable for accomplishing their missions on time and within budget.
* Ensuring information technology systems are secure and that they give our government the capacity and effectiveness to get the job done.
Building Strong Families
Strong families are the bedrock of our nation and our culture. They are built around the sanctity of life and the institution of marriage, which is the union of a man and a woman. To counter coarseness in today’s culture that oftentimes victimizes our children and undermines the traditional values parents want to instill, we must not only protect but strengthen the institutions of family and marriage. I am committed to:
* Using the Presidency to encourage policies that promote a culture of life, strengthen the institution of marriage and traditional families, and advance freedom of religion.
* Returning authority to the levels of government closest to families and communities—the states—and then protecting states from further intrusion by the federal government, the judiciary, and other states.
* Combating the spread of obscenity over TV and other media by making sure parents can better exercise their responsibilities.
Immigration
The United States is a nation of immigrants. Throughout our history, legal immigrants have brought energy, ideas, strength, and diversity to our country, our economy, and our culture. This must continue. But in the post-9/11 world, immigration is more of a national security issue. A government that cannot secure its borders and determine who may enter and who may not, abrogates a fundamental responsibility. I am committed to:
* Securing our borders and enforcing immigration laws. Amnesty is not an option and the toleration of “sanctuary cities” must end.
* Reviewing our immigration laws and policies to ensure they advance our national interests.
Uniting Americans by welcoming legal immigrants willing to learn English, assimilate into our communities, and become productive citizens.
Education
A well-educated citizenry is vital to our security, our economy, and our democracy. Despite the tens of billions of dollars spent on education by Washington each year, and the hundreds of federal education programs now in place, our children are still falling behind, particularly in subjects crucial to the global economy in which we live. At a time when America is behind other developed countries in education excellence, the federal role in education is too intrusive and too bureaucratic, and has become part of the problem. State and local governments are closest to the parents, the kids, and the schools, and best situated to implement changes and innovations that best educate children. I am committed to:
* Giving parents more choices in education and schools less bureaucracy.
* Reviewing federal programs for cost-effectiveness, reducing federal mandates, returning education money to the states, and empowering parents by promoting voucher programs, charter schools, and other innovations that enhance education excellence through competition and choice.
* Encouraging students and teachers to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math—fields that are crucial to our security, competitiveness, and prosperity.
* Promoting transparency to assess performance, promote accountability, and share innovations in education at all levels.
Appointing Judges Faithful To Our Constitution
Activist judges across the country seem intent on legislating from the bench to promote a culture of abortion, redefine marriage, and undermine families—in effect re-shaping the values of our entire society without the consent of the people. We need judges who recognize their role in our democracy is to interpret, not make, the law. I am committed to:
* Appointing strict constructionist judges who will interpret the law, not impose their views on us by legislating from the bench.
Energy Security
The energy challenges our nation faces today are real and significant. Our dependence on foreign sources of oil threatens our national security and puts our economic prosperity at risk. America must rise to the challenge and take the steps necessary to become more energy independent before this becomes a crisis. No one solution will solve the energy challenges we face; all ideas must be on the table. Greater energy security will enhance our ability to pursue our foreign policy and national security objectives. Increasing our energy independence and investing in alternative energy sources will also produce a healthier environment. And while we don’t know for certain how or why climate change is occurring, it makes sense to take reasonable steps to reduce CO2 emissions without harming our economy. Overall, I am committed to:
* A balanced approach to energy security that increases domestic supplies, reduces demand for oil and gas, and promotes alternative fuels and other diverse energy sources.
* Investing in renewable and alternative fuels to promote greater energy independence and a cleaner environment.
* An energy policy that invests in the advanced technologies of tomorrow and places more emphasis on conservation and energy efficiency.
* Conducting research and development into technologies that improve the environment, especially the reduction of CO2 emissions.
Second Amendment
I strongly support the Second Amendment of the Constitution, which protects an individual’s right to keep and bear arms. Gun control is touted as a major crime-control measure. But some of the places with the strictest gun-control laws also have high violent-crime rates. Disarming law-abiding citizens does not prevent crime. The answer to violent crime is smart, effective, and aggressive law enforcement. The real effect of these gun-control measures is to place onerous restrictions on law-abiding citizens who use firearms for such legal activities as self-defense, sport-shooting, hunting, and collecting. I am committed to:
* Strictly enforcing existing laws and severely punishing violent criminals.
* Protecting the rights individual Americans enjoy under the Second Amendment.

Many are scared of Ron Paul because Ron Paul speaks the truth.

The truth can be very scary at times.

Many people prefer to live in denial... (it's only one more cigarette, I can quit at any time; don't worry about the payments, you deserve to "own" that McMansion, besides you can always refinance when the ARM goes up; it's better to fight terrorists over there now, rather than having to fight them here someday; it's better to continue making sure that the North Koreans don't infiltrate across the DMZ after these 50 years, than to spend the necessary money now to protect and secure our own borders).

WAKE UP, America!

Go Ron Paul!

Great Ron Paul supporters are out again like locusts. He's not republican, he's libertarian but realizes there is no hope in the party. He's an interesting and divisive man with a naive foreign policy (essentially ignore the world...lead up to the WW's anyone?)

The comments posted on this blog illustrate clearly the lack of respect ppl show towards each other. The point of the article isn't about Jeb Bush's qualities or the Bush/Clinton Dynasty as someone stated. Our politics are SO divise, thus it's no wonder ppl are apathetic and angry with our country's direction. We don't need another divise standard politician.

Here's my plug, check out what Mike Huckabee has to say at www.mikehuckabee.com especially about "vertical politics." Let's stop attacking ppl and hit issues instead.

Alan, you are a spam artist extraordinaire

I support Ron Paul, and I support Israel.

For all of you Jew-haters out there, stop trying to smear Ron Paul's good name.

Thank you.

This is turning into a forum for fringe candidate spokespeople - Thompson, Huckabee, Paul, etc.

Probably should get some Romney posts soon.

I am just about fed up with people acting like Ron Paul isn't running for President. If people really cared about themselves and their children, they would hear what he has to say. They are all about to have a rude awakening when the primaries start!!!!! He may be flying under the radar right now, but people need to hear his message. Then they can discount him if they don't like it, but have the respect to listen to him first.

We've heard the wacky Ron Paul in all of the debates. He is a fine person, but not weaved of Presidential cloth. Its good to have his point of view though. He is sort of like the Kucinich of the Republican party... wacky, fun, nice and non-competitive.

In fact, he looks a lot like Pat Paulson

Hey, lets can him

RON PAULSON!!!

"This is turning into a forum for fringe candidate spokespeople - Thompson, Huckabee, Paul, etc."

I am getting fed up with Ron Paul being referred to as a "fringe" candidate.

Read the U.S. Constitution, folks!

Do you think that the Constitution is fringe?

"Probably should get some Romney posts soon."

Don't count on it... There is nowhere NEAR the passion behind his campaign as compared to Ron Paul. His standings are based upon money, establishment ties, and support among those in his religion. Much of that is quite powerful, but Romney is a product of the machine, and most of us "invisible" folks are sick of the machine. We want our country back.

Go Ron Paul!

"He is sort of like the Kucinich of the Republican party... wacky, fun, nice and non-competitive."

Just wait until the primaries... and then you may have to rethink what it means to be "non-competitive".

Ron Paul is going to surprise, surprise, surprise.

When you are polling 1% in the polls, you ARE a fringe candidate

who cares about jebboys opinion? on the national level he's really only known as the brother of screw-up #1. oh, and as the guy who put screw-up #1 in office. go away jeb, no one cares.

just hold it. ronpaul2008 is to blame for our $3x10^9-a-day deficit. if he wasn't so weak a man and politician, he'd a voted 'ye' on every bill that crossed his corrupt, constitutionalist desk an' made us safer an' stronger an' a bigger economic powerhouse. for jus a 1- or $2x10^9-a-day more, we coulda had it awl.

Get over it folks. Ron Paul has no chance, period. Like his views, but if you all want to beat Shirallary, get over it and support the republicans.

Fred is a tired old man, bless his heart.

"When you are polling 1% in the polls, you ARE a fringe candidate"

1% of what?

1% of persons who have agreed to participate at the request of the so-called polling agencies, to wait at home next to their LAND LINE telephone every minute of the day and night to be called and to give the expected answer that the polling agencies have been waiting to hear?

Who are these people being polled? Why have they never called me? Why have they never called my friends and family? Why have they not called my cell phone? Why do they not call others on cell phones? Just WHO are these so-called "likely voters"?

You say that Ron Paul is polling 1%. Have you not read the latest news? Ron Paul is "polling" 7% in New Hampshire the last I heard. Was Bill Clinton polling that high this early in his first campaign? Since when is 7% considered "fringe" out of a field of 8+ candidates?

The day of reckoning is coming. Ron Paul's numbers in the primaries are going to shock the establishment. Watch out!

Go Ron Paul!

Ron has a great resume... for a medical doctor.

I enjoy him during the debates. He breaks up the monotony with his wacky statements. I definitely listen to him, but more for the humor. He is sort of like Mike Gravel. Not to be taken seriously, but interesting to listen to.

I do respect him, however, for running for President. It is not for the faint of heart.

Fundraising numbers are just as valid as name recognition polls, so there is no justification for Jeb Bush not commenting on Ron Paul's chances. Ron Paul's fundraising is ensuring he will be a legitimate primary candidate for a good long time. I know is is bitterly disappointing to the RINOs, but too bad. Ron Paul is legitimate and popular.

Ron Paul's Campaign Theme Song

We love you Ron Paul
Oh yes we do
We love you Ron Paul
And will be true
When you're not near us
We're blue
Oh, Ron Paul, we love you

Maybe Jeb just doesn't give a sh*t about Ron Paul or Alan Keyes.

Could that be it?????

Imagine this fool... JEB running
for President of the USA in the future...the slogan against
him would be " 3 Strikes and You're Out! " used
by any Democratic Candidate should he make
it past the Primaries.
I think 2 Bushes are enough...we do not need
a 3rd Bush in the White House. This is not an Imperial
Nation like England or Tszarist Russia.
Enough advice from this man...he is irrelevant. And if Global Warming is true, his State of Florida will be under water in 100 years...something which Jeb will have to blame on his brother George. :)

Dino, get a grip, seriously

Governor Bush is a great man and I appreciate his service to our state. I'm glad he shared his thoughts on the race. There was no need for JEB to mention Ron Paul because he is not a serious candidate. I've heard him speak and have visited his website that appears like it was created by a 5th grader. I realized he was on the fringe when he blamed America for the terrorist attacks on 9/11. He is definitely like the Dennis Kucinich/Mike Gravel of the Republican Party.

6:11-

Haha...Garden Gnome of the Republican Party. I was thinking more like Ron Paul is the Howdy Doody of the GOP!

Blaming Jeb for the real estate crash??? That's laughable. So, is he also to blame for the real estate collapse in the other 49 states as well? When the FED stops pumping out monopoly money, flooding the market with paper worth less than the comic strip inside a Bazooka Joe wrapper, we could turn around the mortgage crisis... which is really what the real estate crash is all about.

Get used to Jeb being around. He'll be on the national ticket soon.

And, vitriolic hate associated with the Bush name aside, he's by far the best politician, leader, legislator, common sense person in the nation... right now.

Jeb, we miss you in Tallahassee.

I remember why I moved out of Florida.

No tin foil hat here, no hiding behind a war I wouldn't fight myself and no lies.

Ron Paul 2008

To the person who stated "1 in four students who start high school in Florida graduate", I absolutely beg to differ. Actually the graduation rate in the state of Florida is over 70%, which is more like 1 in four students DON'T graduate. That being said, the state of Florida still has the 50th ranking of high school graduates in our fine country. I rectum the "No Child Left Behind" theory of the enite Bush clan still doesn't work....at least not in Florida, where it's important to me.

Jeb Bush is most definitely not to blame for the real estate crash in FL, but he is to blame for the absolutely outrageous property taxes and astronomical homeowner's insurance rates here. Jeb Bush has always been a failure at business, including the business of running the state of Florida.

I'm trying not to be " vitriolic " in my last message.
But i've seen some of the comments made here.
Honestly, out of 250 million or more American adults,
you guys could not find another person that you'd like
to be Prez. instead of Jeb Bush.
granted , maybe he is smart, but there is maybe another 50 million potential people out there instead of this guy. Give another "royal family" the chance of becoming Prez. so he can help all his other rich cronies and millionaires.

1. just got new insurance and it's cheaper than any policy I have had in last 10 years. St John.
2. the value of my house is perfect because i did not overpay like you libs.
3. My kid will graduate from high School.
so basicly everything thing you try and blame Jeb for is all BS to me.
sore Losers can't wait till hillary goes down in flames.

Remember when Florida had a real conservative in the Governor's mansion? Now we have an Olympia Snow socialist with questionable masculinity. Jeb makes Charlie Christ look small not only in physical stature but in terms conservative conviction and intellectual curiosity.

The hatred from you Florida liberals is palpable. Your liberal ideology is just fine but the hatred has got to go and you need to please get a life. Gore should have won Tennessee and losing Florida would not have mattered.

Not to ruin your day but Giuliani will win FL in 08

"Ron has a great resume... for a medical doctor."

What about his term after term agter term in Congress....you retard....now it's just stupid mud-slinging.

"Not weaved of presidential cloth"?????

Waht about his book, his intelligence, his loyalty to the constitution....his VOTING RECORD, his military service.....nis family life.....his lack of corruption.....oh wait, that must be what you mean......

Ron Paul is the only canidate who has earned my vote and I will not vote for the lessor of the two evils any more.

Jeb Bush, G W Bush and G H Bush are all traitors... I voted for W and I'm ashamed for having done so.

Jeb Bush was the best governor in the nation when he was governor, and he had Reaganesque coattails in helping President Bush destroy Kerry in Florida in '04 and getting another prolife conservative Republican elected, Charlie Crist in '06.

Jeb 2016!

Funny that GWB had the same foreign policy ideas in 2000 - now they are "fringe." Amazing how short people's memories are.

Seven years later we all think following the Constitution is "fringe"..

I voted for Bush in 00 and 04. I'll be voting for Ron Paul this election. The lesser of two evils is still evil.

AND THE CONSTITUTION ISN'T "FRINGE".

I'll vote for a return to Constitutional principles, an end to the Patriot Act, American hegemony and the Iraq Occupation. That's Ron Paul.

What a bunch of crybaby illiberals!

The only reason Jeb won't run for or be elected president is because the country is ready for someone other than a Bush - Clinton - Bush (Clinton?). He is certainly eminently qualified.

And like someone else said, if Gore had been able to win his own home state, Florida would not have even mattered no matter how many hanging chads and pregnant chads were divined to belong to Gore.

As someone who has only recently moved away from FL after living there my whole life, I found Jeb to be a fantastic governor. I honestly had no complaints and I feel like anyone who does is probably politically clouded. And I'm a Democrat.

YOU BUSH HATERS ARE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE COUNTRY TODAY...........GET RID OF YOUR PREJUDICES AND SHUT THE F UP!

Ron Paul, isn't that the name of that dude that dresses in drag? You know, the black male with the blonde hair? That used to show up on all those talk shows? His "buddies" (all 7 of them) must be taking over for him tonight while he goes draggin' with Rudy and Trump. Just kidding Rudy fans but I couldn't resist.

madgeowens... a predjudice is pre-judgeing someone.... hahah - we've had plenty of time to learn to hate bush...

About 6 months ago I told a friend "Maybe I'm a libertarian..." (obviously, I wasn't one of these neocons - but conservative. That really bothered me. So - I look into it - well duh! I am a libertarian!

Then - a few months later - RON PAUL!

Geez - that rocked.

It was nice of Jeb to mention only the so-called "top tier" candidates...it's not like anyone has *any* interest in Ron Paul.

Or Tom Tancredo.

Or Duncan Hunter.

I'm surprised he even mentioned Mike Huckabee.

And it sickens me he wouldn't attack Rudy Giulliani on his pro-abortion stance. Abortion is MURDER.

Ron Paul doesn't even come close to the level of a fringe candidate. Any monkey out there could poll at his number. He isn't even running a campaign. How does he consider himself a candidate? No one else does.

Jeb Bush is noncommittal at this point. He would make a good vice presidential candidate to run with the final winner in the race. That is if Ms. Rice demurs.

Duncan Hunter is the only REAL conservative running. gohunter08 dot com

As a former resident of FLA, I thought Jeb did some nice leadership things. I do wish he would have said something about Ron Paul, Alan Keys, and Duncan Hunter.

I agree with Mikie that Paul will not win -- unless his supporters get off the computer and start going door to door in their own voting districts.

With the Constitution hanging by a thread; this might be the year of a third party.

"Well, if he is sitting in bed at 8pm, then he surely is not up for the rigors of being president."

Uh, what makes you think he was "sitting" in bed? He did mention his wife was with him. Why they'd have the debate on the TV during sex is kind of strange, but hey political junkies might have odd fetishes.

Jeb is not responsible for the housing market. The problems with the housing market are caused by greed. Those on this blog that want to talk about facts and lies should remember that the Republicans impeached Bill Clinton for lying about a BJ. George bush absolutely lied about WMD's in Iraq to get us into this quagmire in Iraq. The Defense Intelligency agency reported that they could find no convincing evidence of WMD's months before we invaded Iraq. Yet Bush ordered the invasion
