League of Cities to fight tax proposal
No surprise here, but the Florida League of Cities has formally taken a position against the property tax cut proposal on the Jan. 29 ballot. "It further exacerbates system that’s already inequitable, even though there are some things folks find appealing," said legislative director John Thomas.
But Thomas said the group, which met Friday in Orlando, has not yet decided how to oppose the amendment, either through manpower, money, or both. "That's still up for some discussion."

Well people.
Guess who funds the League of Cities. It is funded with taxpayers' dollars collected by your city/county and a big fat check is written to the League.
How do you feel about the League of Cities now? Its your money and they are working against you.

Does anyone have the membership dues amounts for belonging to the Florida League of Cities. I know there is basic membership and there are other memberships that cities pay for their attorneys, water commissioners, public safety officers, etc.
All of this is taxpayers' money.
It is not right that this organization is allowed to fight the property tax amendment with money that is paid involuntarily by taxpayers' who oppose it.

Take a moment to come off your high horse and just read, 12:56 and 1:03:
The blog entry says the League of Cities "has not yet decided how to oppose the amendment, either through manpower, money, or both."
You're sounding the alarm bells and the group hasn't even committed to engaging in a campaign. All they've done is announce opposition.
You guys really must be worried that this latest proposal is going down the drain just like the previous one would have.

1. Applicant for a job at the League of Cities
2. Current employee of the League of Cities (or one of its numerous subgroups or associations)
3. Just plain dumb

Without taxes, who would pay the salary of all the Republican legislative staffers who post on this blog?
Posted by: | November 12, 2007 at 06:24 PM
This makes me think the tax cut really is meaningful if these money hungry weasels are for it.

The League always lobby's against any legislation that reduces a City's ability to collect taxes or fees. This is just par for the course. Isn't it amazing that our local government will spend our tax money to keep us from receiving a tax break. How do they sleep at night?

What amazes me is those that want to vote yes are homesteaded but fail to grasp the situation.
If there is no TAX relief no one will come and buy a home here. If they don't buy a home then you will have lots of vacant and foreclosed properties around your home. Then your home will be worth 0. But your already telling the GOVT it's ok and where do you think they are going to make up the money ? another cigarette tax ? Guess what no relief I dump my properties and take my nicotine stained hands and my over billed property TAX take my kid out of private school and you can pay my part next year, I am not the only one more tax less service just so those BOZO's can spend it no THANKS

Spending by the City of Tampa from 2001 through 2007 totaled some 85 % and 3 times the rate of inflation and population growth combined! Now they use taxpayer dollars to lobby against tax cuts? Wow.

Well if they oppose amendment, then i'm in full support of amendment.
This group loves to go against the people's will.

Stop the local government's DRUNKEN SPENDING!!
Although this amendment is not perfect, it's a good start. Let's pass it & work on more in the spring Legislative session.
ps, The poll indicates that the amendment would likely pass. If you split the undecided at 50-50, that would be plenty for it to pass.
I can smell the bias reporting already, lol.

Unbelievable. Nobody gets it. I thought we wanted TAX REFORM. A potential $240 CUT for those who already have the sweet deal isn't reform at all. But hey, if everyone would rather keep riding the system on the backs of all of those people who are subsidizing our state, once they all leave and all we have left are a bunch of people getting older and graduates who get out of here, then all of your big businesses will leave because they can't get any decent employees. Then the lower salaries in Florida will be the least of our worries. We'll have the state all to ourselves and we'll live like a bunch of redneck hicks. But hey, we'll have what we wanted, right???? Get a clue people. This pathetic attempt at reform needs to be shot down while there is still a chance to recover.

9:25 - Stop worrying about polls. Polls are useless unless they include EVERY POTENTIAL VOTER. If our representatives were as concerned about doing their jobs as they are with polls, things might actually get done and change around here.

So everybody who disagrees with you is an enemy. How juvenile. But how familiar---and you see where that kind of thinking gets you nationally!

Don't worry, Cristi will come to the rescue and save the tax plan. Taxes are going to drop like a rock.
Posted by: | November 13, 2007 at 11:35 AM
I don't support this tax cut - why should the GOP legislature meet on my dime to work on it?
Posted by: | November 13, 2007 at 04:18 PM
Stop the GOP's DRUNKEN TAX CUTS!!!
They are only trying to give a boost to developers and realtors at the expense of local services and home rule!
I can smell the GOP paid lackeys blogging here!
