No, the other black GOP athlete
A number that should make Florida Democrats very afraid: 50. That's the percentage of African-Americans who give Republican Gov. Charlie Crist a rating of excellent or good in the latest St. Pete Times poll. To help further the Florida GOP's inroads with African-Americans, Crist and other GOP leaders this weekend will attend the Black Republican Conference in Orlando, and Crist will attend the FAMU/Bethune Cookman game.
But GOP Chairman Jim Greer struck us as a wee bit clumsy in announcing the aggressive outreach effort. He told reporters and party activists at Presidency IV that former U.S. Rep. J.C. Watts would be speaking at the event. But later he clarified that he meant to say Lynn Swann, the former Steeler and PA gubernatorial candidate, not Watts.

I’m telling ya… giving 8-million of our tax dollars to a set of irresponsible, absentee, crackhead parents will pay off for Mr. Photo-op!
Sad though… once he’s done using the American-African community… he’ll be done using them.
Oh, and to Mr. “KKK” Greer… “What’s amata you… day all look alike ta you, or sumpin!

Once again Greer makes the Republican Party proud. Oh my god, when will he resign and put us out of our misery?

Greer overhead by a reporter…
“What?… I thought Watts was a light bulb, and Swann was a white duck!… where’s my sheet?”

Oh my God, so what Greer made a mistake, let's talk about what Greer and Crist are doing for Outreach to the Black voters. This is a very good thing that's happening this weekend. St Pete Times , you guy's make me sick.

“…the latest St. Pete Times poll.”
… which basically consists of Sembler’s family, Adam Smith, Rick Baker, half the City Council, some cat named Herbert who lives in a singlewide in Pinellas Park, and Crist’s boy-toy (Robbie at the tanning salon).

Is the standard now "Perfection." If so, we all are in a whole lot of trouble.
Posted by: | November 13, 2007 at 04:08 PM
One of a very long list of mistakes in a very short tenure.

This outreach to voter's that Greer is doing, is more then has been done by the Party in years. Crist was right to pick Greer , each day he moves the party forward and leads us to victory. My Rec is going to be there on friday along with many other's. Consvergal will you still be around in 4 year's when Greer is beginning his 3rd term as Chairman and Crist starts his next as Governor. If Greer ran today he would get 90 percent of the RPOF vote, to say anything else show's your not in the know!. Oh, like you have been told by other's on the blog, Get out of the Party if you dont like our Chairman.

Good Job Chairman Greer, Black voter's are important to the Republican party.
Posted by: | November 13, 2007 at 04:22 PM
“Get out of the Party if you dont like our Chairman.”
Great!… our new “Big Tent” Party slogan.
I can’t wait for Dubya to use it… “Get out of Merica if you don’t like me!”

“Black voter's are important to the Republican party.”
Exactly… who else is going to wash our dishes, iron our clothes, park our cars, and fetch our bathroom slippers?

"The Black Republican Conference".
All 5 of them.
It'll be held in a deluxe suite at Disney.
Posted by: | November 13, 2007 at 04:31 PM
I highly doubt that Greer would get anywhere near 90% of local Republican county committee votes if there was an election today. A lot of people are just plain scared to say anything in public against him for fear of getting put on his black list.
Posted by: | November 13, 2007 at 04:55 PM
well, they all look alike don't they?
Posted by: | November 13, 2007 at 05:09 PM
The black outreach is a joke. The Republicans alternate between the states rights bit and black outreach. They can't have both.
FYI, Lynn Swann ran for Governor of Pennsylvania. When he announced, it was close. By election day, he lost in
a landslide.

"If Greer ran today he would get 90 percent of the RPOF vote"
Yeah, sure he would. I would get 90% of the vote too if I had a law passed that said I could remove any one of those voters for disagreeing with me. What a joke.

pander, pander, pander.
Charlie, do you have no shame?
You're not going to be VP. Get over it!

Keep Bob Allen far away from this event.
He made Boing-Boing.
Posted by: Joe from Philly | November 13, 2007 at 05:41 PM
Yes, it is obvious here that that number DOES strike fear in the heart of the Deemocrats.

Couldn't agree with you more, Conservagal. This guy, with his lack of class and his incessant narcissism, is an embarrassment.
Posted by: Scalawag | November 13, 2007 at 06:29 PM
We saw how Republican Rep Bob Allen's attempt to "reach out" to black voters worked out. Maybe Greer can hire Bob to assist in the GOP's efforts by giving him a bunch of $20 bills to hand out.
Posted by: | November 13, 2007 at 07:21 PM
Greer IS doing a good job, trying to reach out o non-traditional Republican constituencies.
However: He DID NOT get anywhere near 90% of the vote the first time and he wouldn't now. Nor should anyone ever take a voting group that much for granted.
Charlie? One term Governor irrespective of what Greer does.
HB 537? It will be ruled unconstitutional the first time it is tested. Committeemen and Committeewoman are elected officials. An elected official cannot be removed on an individual's whim without so much as a removal process, description of cause, etc.
Why was it passed anyway? Those who serve in the Legislature, while mostly lawyers, mostly fall in the same category as Charlie: LINOs - Lawyers in Name Only.

There is much that we do not know regarding the SPT poll and, accordingly, need to view its results cautiously. That said, it is not surprising that Crist polls better among African Ammerican voters than most Repubs. He has worked hard to earn the trust and respect of the AA community.
That effort is likely to pay big dividends when Crist runs for re-election. If 25% of the AA voters in a statewide election vote for the Repub candidate, victory is almost assured.

Blacks are important to the Republican Party. Using bigotry to turn out core white Republican voters is a tried and true staple of Republican Party tactics. But the Republicans are equal opportunity, kind of, enter Hispanics and the scourge of illegal immigrants. Or how about gay marriage destroying heterosexual marriage? (Bob Allen, I'm talking to you, and Larry Craig and that State Sen. in Washington state) Some people see bigotry as something we should be all be working to eradicate. Republicans see bigotry as opportunity, and if it were a bad strategy, they'd probably stop.

"aw, hell!!
dose boyz all looks alike, doan they?"
(insert name of any prominent, racist repiglican as the source __________)
actually, j.c. might have been a good call...he has been voicing some serious displeasure with the CHIMP these days now that he isnt beholding to the goppers for a public forum
as for swann, well he did SO WELL in the pennsylvanis race, didnt he??
and exactly how many CONCUSSIONS has he had?
Posted by: | November 14, 2007 at 09:58 AM
Didn't we just see a report that black males pay has not been keeping up with whites?
Our schools are the worst- and that is the one place where black gets can get equal oppy, set goals, and move ahead.
Who is going to suffer the most as the economy turns downward? Who now has lesser oppy for home ownership?
What are the Republicans really doing for blacks? And more importantly, what are blacks doing for themselves?

Is the Hillsborough NAACP chair still a republican? I know he was having a crisis of faith a while back, but never heard what he had decided?

I'm not sure if the first post is an offensive take on ebonics or a witty use of the Geico lizard.

Greer is not only a male chauvinist he is a racist too, actually, he thinks he is superior to everyone - he's delusional. Greer is a disgrace to the party and the human race; he's everything nobody wants to be.
