Portability won't help Kottkamp
Few were more eager to pass Save Our Homes "portability" this week than Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp, who worked his old stomping grounds on the House floor Monday in a last-minute effort to secure passage. Kottkamp said Rep. Ray Sansom called down to the governor's office at one point to say the House was about 10 votes short of the 72 needed -- a warning that got Kottkamp on the floor and Crist on the phone.
Kottkamp, his wife and son moved into a new home in North Fort Myers during the 2006 campaign. Lacking portability, he lost the accrued savings from his old house in Cape Coral. The new house has a taxable value of $1.4-million, with a property tax bill of nearly $22,000.
"I'm probably in the worse situation of just about anybody," Kottkamp said. "I have no accumulated Save Our Homes, so I don't really benefit from this, but I know the state does."

By the way FYI Lt. Governor the constitution says you are suppose to live in Leon County.

Portability won't help that god-awful mustache either. Please do something with that thing.
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 03:33 PM
Why should the Lt. Gov. worry about not living in Leon County - the Governor doesn't live their either!!!
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 03:47 PM
The mustache is great. It is just part of his carachter.
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 03:49 PM
Kottkamp is honest, talented and humble. He can live wherever he wants.
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 03:52 PM
3:52 take your mouth off his rod.
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 03:57 PM
Because God forbid you pay the taxes based on the true value of your $1.4 million dollar home.
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 04:06 PM
4:46, if everyone paid the "true value" of their property we wouldn't need tax reform.
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 04:15 PM
How about giving the guy credit for helping pass tax reform that will help a lot of people even if it doesn't help him?
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 04:16 PM
It won't help anybody. Why do we have to give him credit we already pay him. If his low self esteem can't handle it that's his problem.
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 04:25 PM
4:16, come on. What it really means is that, as usual, neither he nor Crist knew anything about the actual policy they were passing. Good grief, these guys give even Republicans a bad name. And don't think you're handing them over to us, either. Ha!
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 04:27 PM
just think...if Charlie becomes VP, we'll have a TRIAL LAWYER Governor...Booga booga!!!!
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 04:49 PM
You people are such pathetic LOSERS! The green eyed monster shines through you! Kottkamp is a decent guy, and anyone who says differently either a) doesn't know him or b) is a special interest person... maybe a lobbyist for insurance???
3:33 I think his mustache is hot! I know the reason he won't shave it off is because his wife likes it. He cares more what she thinks than what you think. By the way, what do YOU look like? I bet you are pasty white and have a pot belly. Or, perhaps you are from Miami. Maybe a Rubio fan???
To 3:28: Kottkamp happens to have a house in Tallahasse. The constitution doesn't say that he has to only have one house. Jerkoff.
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 04:58 PM
How about this observation, the plan sucks. It helps no one.
Just to show you the disconnect:
- In Tallahassee everyone was all smiles backslapping each other on this plan
- Everywhere else everyone says the plan sucks. It opened to horrible reviews.
And by the way, I think 4:58 was posted by none other than Mrs. Kottkamp herself.
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 05:14 PM
4:49 - Can't we pawn him off as a law school dean or something?
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 05:16 PM
It would help his taxpayer funded retirement...
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 05:21 PM
5:14... no, I am not Cindy, but I am a very good friend of both of them. I have been to their house in Tally and in Cape Coral. I have found them to be the most kind, generous and nice people I have ever met. Like I said, if you have something bad to say about the LG, then you don't know him!
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 05:33 PM
Do we want to know why she likes the mustache?
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 05:34 PM
I doubt that Kottkamp likes this bill. He was always for abolishing taxes. However, what is he supposed to do? It is not like he could come out and condemn the bill. Crist would kill him.
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 05:40 PM
If everyone had a marriage like the Kottkamp's, our country would not have a 50% divorce rate. They are one of the few couples I know that still walk around holding hands.
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 05:46 PM
I agree, I just want to know why she likes the mustache...
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 05:58 PM
He must make her very happy!
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 06:11 PM
Mustache's tickle. In all the right places.
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 06:12 PM
they don't have my vote on this very unfair tax reform. why didn't they just reword the super exemption instead of messing it up so bad. if we were taxed fair we would not need portability.
Posted by: la | November 02, 2007 at 06:17 PM
Kottkamp is a decent guy. To insult or ridicule him on this blog is pathetic.
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 06:24 PM
6:12: The man is the Lt. Governor of the state for pete's sake. Show some respect.
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 07:54 PM
Kottkamp is a great guy and Cyndie is second to none.
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 08:03 PM
I like Jeff. I knew him before he became the Lt. Governor and he hasn't changed at all. I respect that.

I would like to know how much the STP Times is paying some of these people to blog. If the Times is not paying them, then it is obvious that far too many on the state payroll are spending there working time on the blog.
I will not accuse them of using state computers, just of using state time, which translates to their paychecks, which the taxpayers fund.
Posted by: | November 03, 2007 at 01:19 AM
Before anyone accuses me of being illiterate, I meant "spending THEIR working time".
Posted by: | November 03, 2007 at 01:21 AM
1:19 sure because of course no one who doesn't work for the state could possibly have any respect or admiration for the Lt. Governor of Florida.
Let's not forget, he was elected to three house terms without the help of the SPT blog.
Kottkamp is a good man.

He can't even take homestead exemption on the new digs...but even the new super-homestead amount probably wouldn't make much diff on a million-plus home.
Posted by: | November 03, 2007 at 09:43 AM
"I'm probably in the worse situation of just about anybody," Kottkamp said.”
OH REALLY, YOU PATHETIC CHUMP! TELL THAT TO THE THOUSANDS WHO HAVE LOST THEIR HOMES DUE TO YOUR BOSSES LACK OF INTEGRITY… YOU PATHETIC AS*WIPE!

9:48 - Calm Down. The Governor has been in office for 10 months. No one, let alone thousands, has lost their home because of him.
Posted by: | November 03, 2007 at 11:51 AM
9:48 is just jealous because HE doesn't have a big as* house!
Posted by: | November 03, 2007 at 11:55 AM
9:40 AM, 1:19 here,
I am sorry that I was not more specific. I meant some of the blogs in general. This is really a non-story. That is why I referred to the STP Times paying someone to post.
I did not say one word against the Lt. Gov. I happen to like the man.
I realize that most of the posters like to try to incite wrath in each other, but I was just making a general comment.
Hope you have a great, relaxing, weekend.

I think it is a hard line to tow. On one hand, the government should not take so much of our money in taxes that we want to revolt (which is what is happening). On the other, there are people who really need help. I think the answer is that we should be taxed a REASONABLE amount and then govt should tighten it's belt and find every possible way to save money and provide services in the most efficient way possible. Right now, govt WASTES so much money. It is hard to advocate taxing us more for them to waste it.

9:11 you as well.

Compare this proposed solution that could BENEFIT all Florida citizens including workers and retirees.
Legislators should put it on the ballot and let the voters decide.
http://fairtaxlee.homestead.com/
The proposal replaces ALL Florida taxes
with a progressive state retail sales tax,
including a PREBATE to ensure no Florida citizen pays state taxes on spending up to the poverty level.
The plan taxes only on what we choose to spend
on new goods or services, not on what we own.
The plan is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current property tax system.

I am watching Senator Atwater on the Florida Channel. Oh my God, what kind of drugs is this guy on? He cocks his head to one side and spews out "cume by ya" crap like, we (the legislature) are so good, we stand for all that is right in Florida and the world for that matter, we did the right thing on the tax issue, insurance issues and we live in a perfect world. He has to be the most plastic politician I have ever listened to. What a line of c r a p. I am certain he will end the show with "I see trees of green, red roses too".
