Seminoles join fight against Rubio
The Seminole Tribe of Florida filed a motion today to join as a respondent to House Speaker Marco Rubio's suit challenging the gaming compact worked out with Gov. Charlie Crist.
The Tribe argues that it is currently on an "unfair playing field" because slot machines have been allowed in Broward County and that is now has a right to challenge Rubio's effort. "The Tribe has a direct and substantial stake in the outcome of this proceeding."

LOL way to go Rubio. Get in a PR AND legal battle with Native Americans...loser!

Yeah, because clearly history shows that there is no way someone of European descent could ever win a fight with a Native American.

Way to go Charlie, get into a battle with the base of your party. Putz!!

These poor native americans. They bought the Hard Rock corporation for a billion in cash. The only way to maintain competition is to give the white man the same games.

The "base" ???
Posted by: | November 20, 2007 at 04:18 PM
That's right "the base".
Most Republicans do NOT support gambling.

Yes... but do they support a tanning booth in every pot?

The base has no money next year the state will be broke and praying for indian money ..

The odds are that the Florida Supreme Court will find a way to avoid having to decide the merits of Rubio's petition. That is often what a court does when faced with a difficult political question.

Give me a break like the 100 million from the tribe is really going to make a difference in a 2 Billion dollar loss. What happens in 25 years when the state can't count on the tribal money then? The Governor cares SO much for the children that he is going to leave them with a HUGE hole to fill in the budget when the compact expires

Republicans against gambling? What an idiotic thing to say. Gambling is here...it is reality...might as well gain some benefit from it instead of having a senseless knee-jerk reaction like Rubio and his ilk.

Just ask the buses full of Republicans who take day trips to Biloxi how they feel about gambling. Trust me, some are even arranged by Republican organizations.

5:37 Explain how $100m is a drop in the bucket now, but will somehow cause a HUGE hole in the budget 25 years from now.

Republicans against gambling?! That's funny and rich! Jeb Bush - and I count myself a big supporter of his - encouraged, or at least turned a blind eye, the largest increase in gambling in state history at the Florida Lottery! Just check the facts and the record. He never told the lotto people to slow down the selling of tickets.

Sorry bud but the Lotto money was used for pork not education like it was suppossed to. We can olny hope your Republican pals don't figure a way to use this money the same way.

The Republican BASE?? Against GAMBLING??? Not a chance. You must be referring to that shrinking gaggle of sanctimonious self-righteous fools who are even as we speak lining up to kiss Rudy's behind so they can claim SOME credit for his victory. This despite the fact that Rudy is pro-chice and has no problem with gay rights, two things the right wind abhors. Did I say hors?

Calling on the spirits of our fathers and the Great Spirit himself, we of the Tribe know the white man has no right to regulate our gambling establishments--they are ours by special preference and must so always be because of who our great great grandfathers were.
Charlie is right to give the Tribe the means to encourage others into correspondence with our spirits by gambling. As big chief Meyer Lansky said at the great pow wow of 1955, "Our traditions are best embodied in gambling. Be proud of our heritage."
