Senate joins gambling suit against Crist

The Florida Senate this morning filed a "friend of the court" motion in the lawsuit challenging Gov. Charlie Crist's gambling compact with the Seminole Tribe of Florida.

“Governor Crist had the very best interest of the state in mind when he worked with the Seminole Tribe,” Senate President Ken Pruitt said. “I believe the governor properly exercised his authority to negotiate a compact, however, in order for the compact to be valid it must be approved by the Legislature.”

House Speaker Marco Rubio filed the suit earlier this month, asserting that Crist violated the separation of powers by crafting an agreement without legislative approval. Oral arguments are set for Dec. 12.

Marco: “Whaaaaaaaaa, I want attention, I WANT ATTENTION!”

Senate: “Settle down freak… you make us all look like idiots”

Marco: “Whaaaaaaaaa, I want to look like an idiot, I WANT TO LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT!””

Senate: “Ummmmm… ok!”

Where were all of the Balance of Power lawsuits during the 8 years Jeb Bush trod all over the Legislature?

While there may have been differences between the legislature and Bush, at least Bush had republican credentials...

Here go the dysfunctional Republicans again. Cant get anything done.

Nighty-night EOG

Wow, someone is actually bothering to oppose Cristi?

I guess the Senate, like the House, wants to waste a lot of time and money in an effort to
1) prevent Florida from reapinf $100 million a year (at least); and 2) save us from the evils of gambling (whether we want to be saved or not).

IMPEACH both RUBIO and PRUITT!

The result of all this will be expanded gambling on the reservations and no money for the state.

The result of this will be expanded gambling throughout the state...

Can't wait!

Pruitt's such a kiss*ss to Crist.

The reason why there were no lawsuits during the Jeb years is because they knew Jeb would have ground them into dog meat had they dared even think about it.

Crist with his easygoing demeanor doesn't strike fear into many legislators hearts.

This is still a lilly-livered ploy by the Senate. To weak to fight for real tax reform yet they want Marco to fight their battles for them.

You guys disgust me. Try growing a set!

Um, the Legislature sued Jeb over a veto of proviso language, and WON. Later, Jeb picked Toni Jennings as LG. Looks like all the media-hyped spats between the branches (and chambers) are never such a big deal for very long.
And this is mostly a turf disagreement, NOT just a policy disagreement. Even if you like the terms of the deal, the first question is: Does the Governor have the authority to sign it? If not, then the Legislature needs to approve it.

THE "INDIAN TRIBE" CONCEPT IS A JOKE!!!

The Indians are a special interest group like the rest!!!

Why can't gambling be something that everybody has the right to do without the government trying to control a monopoly.
