Tax vote motivates mobile home owners

Bsecti_taxvot_2208393_2 When the Legislature last month signed off on a plan to slash property taxes, it included a little-discussed provision that could give close to 1-million mobile home owners - about 75,000 of them in the Tampa Bay area - a slight break.

Now, groups like the Florida Manufactured Home Association, the Federation of Manufactured Home Owners of Florida and the Alliance of Park Residents are spreading the word through newsletters and e-mails.

Some observers think this oft-ignored voting bloc could be the key to gaining the 60 percent voter approval for the tax cuts to become law. (story here.)

Well sure, that looks like a lot of owners. But how many of them can vote? How many call Florida home, and are not just seasonal? All the ones I see are empty in summer, and full of out-of-state license plates when they return. And if we're talking about the really low-rent places, how many of them turn out, even if they're here fultime? My guess is there's not that many voters.

How many own the land undreneath the double-wide?

People in mobile homes don't vote because they're illeterate.

3:35 is most definitely an elitist, Republican, owned by the developer… politician!

Most likely, white, fat, old, pasty, rich… and digs hanging out in public bathrooms as well.

3:35...Thats not true-Most mobile home owners were born to wedded parents!

3:38: you're only partially right. I'm actually only half-white, young, dark-skinned and poor...but I am fat!

I notice you didn't deny the bathroom thing... ewwwwwwwwww...

An important constituency in many areas of Florida - and a hell of a lot of regular voters too. One would be surprised at how many do regularly vote. Many are much more than "po white trash".

An excellent example is those in the photograph.

How much would a typical mobile home owner save because of the amendment proposal? It cannot be very much.
