Thompson campaign limping

PENSACOLA - Presidential candidate Fred Thompson returned to Florida last week for a campaign rally in this military city at a time when his campaign needs to rally.

The meager crowd, no more than 100, waited in the cool bright morning for twice as long as the speech itself lasted. Just feet from the stage, along the ledge of the pier, a blowfish rotted in the sun. The parallels to Thompson's campaign in Florida are inescapable. For the first time, he arrived in Florida not as a promising upstart but at the back of the GOP pack, with a campaign badly needing some life.

Limping? Running a strong second in most every state and a close second nationally to Giuliani is hardly "limping".

ROCK ON FRED! In the words of Hillary, via Mathews… “They’re attacking me because I’m ahead”. If they’re hammering you, it’s because you scare the hell out of them… as well it should be.

What poll you reading 8:32.

he's finished...missed opportunity to say the least

one word for this campaign: disappointing.

This is a classic Times hack job. The reporter is a young kid trying to make an impression on his editors. For the Times that means bash Republicans.

Campaign is D.O.A.

Hope the Rudy and Romney crowd think that-keep on truckin' Fred-

I think that Randy Enwright has lost his touch. The GOP has changed around him and he can not advise his clients to win this new climate. Thompson is just like Baxley in that they are stuck in a time warp when all you had to do is say that you love guns, you hate government and you want to cut taxes, oh you love god too, and you win the GOP primary.

it's over for fred. he missed his chance.

Thompson could never win in todays visible media political environment. The guy is simply just too "ugly" for public televison. He always has a "constipated" look on his face like his needs to take adump but just cant get it out and he is in pain because of it. With all of that its obvious, the trophy wife is just another unaccomplished person that used her looks to lower her standards for to settle for security. It happens everyday, but ole Fred thinks its because he is the man....poor dissillusional fool.....This campaign never got started and will never reach anywhere.

Running a strong second in polls, huh? What poll and what state? He's toast.

Thompson's best day was the day before he formally announced his candidacy. Since that day he's gone steadily down hill. He has an arrogance that is almost incomprehensible. He's too "good" to actually devote the mental energy needed to address the issues that are important to voters. This shouldn't be a big surprise. He never accomplished anything of note when he was a Senator. Now, he's carrying forward that proud tradition as a candidate.

That says it all: bloated fish, rotting in the sun.

"a blow fish rotting in the sun. The parallels are inescapable" OH PLEASE! What utter garbage. Thompson is so feared by the media they stop at nothing to try to bring the guy down. Its just a buch of wishful thinking. Thompson is the most conservative electable guy, so of course the media is desperate to have some impact on tearing down his campaign. They forget that to have an impact their "news" stories must be believable, but without credibility no one believes what they write. This is like them peeing on everyone's leg and report that its raining. The paralles are inescapable.

10:28 I agree with you. But doesn't that sounds just like Charlie Crist?

I’ll take Fred over an incestuous, cross-dressing, mob-punk, exploiter of American death for political gain… any day. I’ll also pass on the dude named after a piece of sports equipment.

ROCK ON FRED!

11:33 your a sick pup.

When he changed his position on the Schiavo issue, he lost me. Showing me and many others how easily he will dump his beliefs for the extreme rights support. Just another political vote panderer. Bye bye Fred.

Thompson is now in 6th place in New Hampshire. 6th place... gee that would put all of the other candidates ahead of him (except Tancredo.) Wow, I guess that his is really feared, huh? Hahahhahahahahahahahaha
What a total joke this guy is.

Fred should change his campaign song to "It's 5 O'clock Somewhere." Maybe that will get his juices flowing.

I think Curtis Mayfield said it best: "Freddie's (campaign) is dead. That's what I said."

The conventional wisdom of the press has latched onto the narrative of a collapsing Thompson campaign. So the herd mentality simply repeats it or goes looking for stories that confirm it. The old adage "the press is lazy" still applies. Until Fred does something to change that narrative, we can expect more thoughtless articles like this one.
C'mon, Fred, let's GO!!!

It's a niche voting bloc, I grant you, but please do not misunderstimate the incestuous, cross-dressing, mob-punk, exploiter of American death for political gain wing of the Republican Party. Sad to think many believe that incestuous, cross-dressing, mob-punk, exploiter of American death for political gain (and you left out philandering) is the best represenation of the Republican Party that they can offer in 2008. Put your chips on Fred and then come crawling back to Rudy or the Mittster. In the end, if Rudy's the nominee, I expect Republicans to try to sell me on the idea that I should trust Rudy when his children won't. Good luck with that.

Limping, St. Pete Times? Don't you have to have legs to limp? Fred Heads I interpret everything you're saying as "It's just a flesh wound!"

Bye Bye Freddie!

The impotence of every Republican candidate in this upcoming general election is something that gives me great satisfaction. You all blindly made your bed with this war-mongering president, and now you must sleep in it.

"Rea' Patriot" (Not) in case you haven't noticed, not all the GOP candidates are for the war. And most Dem candidates ARE for it, voted for it and will not committ to stopping it. (And I mean the Hillary person.)

Bye bye Freddie!

What poll has Thompson #2? That would be real clear politics. And Adolf Hillary is starting to slip too.

Fred or Huckabee is the only choice for a real conservative to be elected President in '08. Rudy and Mitt are only running as Republican's because that was the easiest way to get elected in the 90's and after 9/11. Without his money, Mitt would not be running for President today. Without 9/11, Rudy would not be running - let alone on the GOP ticket. The one thing I agree with Biden - is his description of Rudy when he speaks- " anoun, averb and 9/11" It is shamefull what he has done on the backs of those who lost there lives on that day. First he made millions and now he thinks he deserves to be President. He needs to get his own life in order first. If Rudy gets elected, I am afraid we will have another Monica in the oval office.

GO FRED - stop the Mitt and Rudy pretending to be a member of the GOP.
