Anti-Romney pushpolling
The Romney campaign is getting reports of anti-Romney pushpolling in Orlando, Fort Myers and West Palm Beach, the calls started this morning.
The poll calls are saying that Romney never supported Bush tax cuts, supports tax-payer funded abortions and wants relations with Fidel Castro. Some calls have targeted the Cuban community in South Florida and are in Spanish, said Al Cardenas, Romney's Florida chair.
"These are clearly negative and false attacks against Gov. Romney by a flailing campaign desperate to change the dialogue on issues that matter most to Florida voters like lower taxes, less government and stronger families," said campaign spokeswoman Kristy Campbell.

Wow, McCain is getting desperate.

"... wants relations with Fidel Castro."
Ewwwwww, sounds like Chuck!
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 04:01 PM
At least this is all true. Romney's negative push poll is a blatant lie.
Posted by: Mitt is a cry baby | January 28, 2008 at 04:01 PM
yup - still getting false robocalls from *uckabee - got one two minutes ago - saying that Romney's MA health program is abortion on demand when the truth is the courts ruled abortion had to be included after Romney signed the plan leaving out abortion

When has romney supported lower taxes? Tell that to the people of Mass who he raised taxes by $700m annually.
Posted by: Kristy Campbell's quotes never make sense | January 28, 2008 at 04:03 PM
McCain at his finest.
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 04:07 PM
You Romney staffers are so sensative. Its ok for you to put these calls out, but the second another candidate does you flip out.
If you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen.
Posted by: Romney Hypocrits | January 28, 2008 at 04:11 PM
Actually the pushpolling may help Romney. The Huckster's calls in SC hurt him. McCain's calls will cost him here.
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 04:14 PM
Good point, 4:11... If you can't take the heat just lie like the rest of them.
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 04:15 PM
4:11: Learn how to spell before attacking people. It's "sensitive" and "hypocrites."
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 04:15 PM
Ultimate justice would be neither McCain nor Romney winning Florida. They'll both obviously say or do anything to get elected. At least Ron Paul says what he really thinks.
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 04:17 PM
415 - learn not to be so bitter.
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 04:20 PM
It seems like everyone in this blog is bitter! Oh, they're only mimicking the candidates they're supporting.
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 04:22 PM
I think these are Huck calls
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 04:24 PM
PLEASE call out Mr. McCain on his call out of Romney on withdrawal from Iraq when 3 months earlier he was doing the same thing. Senator McCain has been getting a free ride for long enough. I would like some "straight talk" from him on this issue.

Thanks!

Good job McCain! Romney got what he deserved - payback for his negative and false robo calls.
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 04:35 PM
go huck tear him up
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 04:36 PM
4:34: You want us to call out someone for calling someone out, when you admit that the person being called out was doing it?
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 04:38 PM
Huck's calls? The Huckster is no where to be found in this race. These are obviously McCain calls. And are you McCain supporters are justifying them?
Pushpolling is negative campaigning at its worst. Any candidate who uses this technique deserves the backlash that usually accompanies it.

Interesting article.
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 04:42 PM
Romney and McCain are both guilty of inaccurate push-polling. Punish them by voting for Hick or Ron Paul and turn this race into a joke!
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 04:45 PM
I just got a blatantly false phone call that I would like to report. It said that McCain supported the Bush tax cuts and wasn't really a bitter old man.

McCain's national "Hispanic Outreach Director" is Juan Hernandez, an open borders, dual citizen, "Mexico First" advisor - so apparently, McCain may delay building that "g**dammed" fence.
from Juan's site: he endorses that illegals should have US banking priveleges, free flow over the US border, US licenses and ID, absentee balloting in Mexico while staying "active" in the US, etc.

What precisely is false about the robo-calls from the Romney camp on John McCain? All of what is being said is true. On the flip-side, whoever is responsible for these particular robo-calls is playing dirty politics and being dishonest.
4:03, Romney has always been for lower taxes... this was part of his campaign in 1994. As Governor, he proposed income tax cuts numerous times that would have provided more than enough relief to cover the costs of the government service fee increases.

The Ugly Truth About McCain (see for yourself):
-Google "the Keating 5"
-Google why McCain ditched his recently disabled wife for his multi-millionaire mistress
Posted by: Dan | January 28, 2008 at 05:31 PM
Let us look at McCain’s conservative credentials:
-IMMIGRATION: he wrote the bill granting amnesty to illegal immigrants (co-sponsored by Ted Kennedy)
-SOCIAL SECURITY: he voted to give your social security money to illegal immigrants
-TAXES: he voted against the Bush tax cuts multiple times (he has since flip-flopped and has campaigned as a lifelong tax-cutter)
-RHETORIC: he routinely engages in Democratic class warfare against big companies in America, particularly the “evil” drug companies who research cures to debilitating diseases for a profit
-ECONOMY: as recently as December 2007 he admitted “he does not know the economy very well” and needed to get better at it
-1ST AMENDMENT: he wrote the McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill that was declared to be an unconstitutional infringement of the 1st Amendment (co-sponsored by ultra-liberal Democrat Russ Feingold)
-2ND AMENDMENT: he was called the “worst 2nd amendment candidate” by the president of the NRA
-ENERGY TAX: wrote a bill (co-sponsored by his buddy Lieberman) imposing a massive tax on energy which, according to the Department of Energy, would drastically raise the price of gasoline and put 300,000 Americans out of work
-GLOBAL WARMING: supports radical global warming legislation which involved him voting with every Democrat; think only America is responsible to take action, not other superpowers
-JUDGES: he joined forces with Democrats (Gang of 14) to block the Senate Republican’s attempt to confirm conservative, strict constructionist judges
-WAR ON TERROR: fought with Hillary Clinton to demand that terrorists be given a full American trial
-GAY MARRIAGE: he joined liberals to fight against a federal marriage amendment supporting the institution of traditional marriage
-CHRISTIANS: campaigning in 2000, he famously described Christian leaders as “agents of intolerance”
-PRO-LIFE: he filed an amicus brief against pro-life advocates in Wisconsin
-BI-PARTISANSHIP: he met with leading Democrats in 2004 to discuss the possibility of being John Kerry’s Vice-President
-PROFESSIONAL ETHICS: ringleader of the infamous Keating 5 ethical scandal which cost US tax payers $160 billion (Google it)
-PERSONAL ETHICS: McCain cheated on his first wife after she had a severe accident that left her partially disabled. He then divorced her and married his multi-millionaire mistress, whose daddy bought McCain a spot in the Congress

Dan-
Agreed, but that post is too long man.
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 05:41 PM
Dan, this one's misleading:
-CHRISTIANS: campaigning in 2000, he famously described Christian leaders as “agents of intolerance”
He was talking about Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson (who supports Rudy), and Al Sharpton (along with Louis Farrakhan).
McCain knows how to get things done and is the only Republican who could beat Obama or Hillary. Face it, righties.

Perhaps you missed McCain speaking highly of Farrakhan when he visited his liberal college.

Your McCain can beat Obama and Hillary is old news Frank. Check the latest polls.
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 06:39 PM
Ah, this is McCain pulling the same Shenannigans he pulled in South Carolina in 2000. He did this to Bush, and then accused Bush of doing to him the very thing that HE was doing! Remember? Bush made the unprecedented move of ordering his campaign to release all of their scripts to prove that they were not behind any such attack calls. Turns out, there weren't any to start with. McCain was lying about it. However, McCain refused to release the scripts of his own attack calls.

Is there any proof push-polls work?
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 07:34 PM
7:34, Chiles beat Jeb because of them.
Posted by: | January 28, 2008 at 07:52 PM
Mccain will go no where!! Romney will win

So, thats what all those messages on my phone message machine are about. I thought they were just a bunch of desperate telemarketers trying to sell me something i dont want. Hmmm after reading this article i guess i didnt miss much by deleting them all after the first two words. Come to think of it looks like there isnt much difference between telemarketing and push polling. They all only want your money/vote and are willing to say anything to get it.
Personally i dont buy or believe any of it.

Personally, I don't care for either Mitt or McCain, I'm voting for Huckabee
he doesnt seem angry like McCain or fake like Mitt, plus I like his idea of abolishing the IRS and going to a sales tax. It's time everyone pays!
Posted by: Matt | January 28, 2008 at 08:42 PM
How sick of Crist. He knew Guliani was putting all his eggs in Florida basket. And then to turn and support McCain...The Guliani camp is saying Crist wouldnt support him unless he knew he was on a short list for VP.
I dont care if you are Gov of Florida. The illegitimate children (plural folks) thing, the boyfriend thing, NO WIFE and no kids...earth to Crist, you missed the boat. Maybe marrying Pemble wasnt a bad thing, you ran around with her toi escape the "G" word. Tell me that woman will get a boyfriend soon, or die from embarassment.

I'm voting YES on 1 and for Huckabee. If enough of FL goes to him it will keep the race interesting. If Huck doesnt win I'm voting for Obama in the general. These are the only 2 that don't make me YAK! Hillary would never get my vote, not because of her but her idiot husband Bubba!

it's going to be McCain vs Hillary in November

That $700 number always has been false. Mitt didn't raise taxes in Massachusetts, his predecessor did.
Posted by: pbj | January 29, 2008 at 02:29 AM
The calls are also going into Jacksonville and they started last night but with a live caller telling me Romney did not support the vote on the Bush tax cuts.
What a a complete inversion of the truth.
I said are you nuts? Romney was the governor of Massachusetts he did not vote, it was McCain that voted against them not once but twice.
WHAT LYING HYPOCRISY!!
Then the caller attempted to give more negative spin on the budget in Massachusetts. I said that is a lie the numbers are wrong.
McCain hs stuped to a new low AGAIN.
Liar liar pants on fire.
May the voters of Florida pay you back for your dishonesty.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 09:30 AM
Mitchell polling that has Romney up by 2 is the only polll that called it right in Michigan.
GO Mitt GO!!!!!!!!
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 09:58 AM
Mitt should be embarrassed. He has spent his personal money to buy 4,000 more ads than McCain. He has had a 20 person staff for a year, and he is in a dog fight.
McCain has only had a strong message and a group of volunteers who used to be with Jeb.

Independents (plural) voting for McCain???? I read the article which referenced one (1 -- count them -- 1)Independent wanting to vote in the primaries, which you can't in Florida. Either decide or wait on the fence until November
