Confused by ballot, some vote 'no' on 1
Jason Diviki, 36, walked into his precinct and quickly voted for Ron Paul. But he struggled over Amendment 1, the property tax cut. "It was confusing," he said of the ballot summary, "so I voted no. My taxes aren't outrageous anyway."
Dorothy Cox, 70, reacted similarly. "It was very confusing," she said, loading her granddaughter into the back seat. "On one end, it seemed like it would help, but if you kept reading it seemed like it wouldn't."

What moron would waste a vote on Ron Paul?
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:21 PM
Not surprising if you consider the source of the amendment.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:22 PM
I don't care about Ron Paul. I'm just glad to see that Dorothy had the smarts to read A-1, and nailed it dead on. Well done Dorothy!
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:23 PM
Dorothy, please move to Kansas.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:25 PM
Two smart people right there voting no. This POS won't pass.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:27 PM
Dorothy and Jason - glad you had the smarts to realize if it's too confusing, VOTE NO. This is the constitution they are wanting to alter. If there is any uncertainty, do NOT agree to it! This stupid plan is going down!!!!
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:29 PM
I think Dorothy is hot!
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:30 PM
The need for simple and stupid answers to complex problems is the reason our democracy is going to hell in a handbasket. The worst dictators and tyrants in history were really great at framing their evil into SIMPLE solutions for the masses. Leadership is much more than being able to dumb down the issues.
On the other hand, I was once told that "The voters are always right, and the always get what they deserve." That is why we have Rubio, Pruitt and Crist. It is time for the people to get it right.

A 70 year old was confused....go figure!
Posted by: UF Student | January 29, 2008 at 03:42 PM
That's why I'm not voting for McCain.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:45 PM
I talked with 12 people in line at my polling place. 10-No's, 2-Yes' on 1.
And when I asked about Mitt, 4-never heard of him, 3-will vote for him, 5-said they used one as a kid.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:46 PM
how did they vote on the renewal of school tax?
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:48 PM
A Ron Paul supporter isn't smart enough to vote.. wow.. I'm in shock
Posted by: UF Alumni | January 29, 2008 at 03:49 PM
A1 is going to fail and the 3 wise men ,Crist, Lemeiux and Greer will be damaged goods. This upcoming session will be brutal for Crist!
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:49 PM
Guess Crist should have spent more time touting his amendment and less time pandering votes for McCain.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:52 PM
Why were there no Yes on One signs at any polling places, oh that's right Arlene is in charge. So much for the Grassroots campaign she is running .
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:53 PM
I'm not voting for Ron Paul, but I do find the hate for Ron Paul enlightening. What is it about this guy that scares people so much?
Posted by: Joe | January 29, 2008 at 03:54 PM
I was going to vote for McCain until Crist endorsed him. As soon as Crist endorsed him I made up my mind to vote for Romney.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:54 PM
Hopefully Charlie is 0-2 after tonight. He'll likely walk the ledge as his public opinion starts to drop like a rock.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:54 PM
Crist is certainly not the "People's Governor". He's the worst MISTAKE Florida has made since 2000.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:58 PM
3:54, Its not that he scares people, well, actually he does. Not really, he is just looney and needs to back out. And yes Ron Paul cultists, i know, i know. Do more research, read what he has to say, yadda, yadda, yadda. Hello Ralph Nader II.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:59 PM
Ron Paul is basically a fruit loop. But to his credit, he's the only one with the stones to tell the truth about our economy.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:00 PM
Ron Paul got my vote today because he is the ONLY candidate who can do what is right. All you haters need to listen to what he has to say.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:02 PM
Yes on One will not get the 60 percent needed because George did not really care, he's working on making money and Greer did not have the ba..s to fire Arlene and do what needed to be done!
Posted by: Time to Tell | January 29, 2008 at 04:02 PM
VOTE YES ON 1. IF YOU WANT YOUR TAXES TO GO DOWN VOTE YES IF YOU ARE A LIBERAL AND LIKE HIGH TAXES VOTE NO.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:05 PM
I actually agree with a lot of what Ron Paul says. Overall, I think the guy is a bit too extreme, and I didn't vote for him, but I like him in the debates. I think it is good to be reminded that the proposed tax rebate is just borrowed money from China.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:05 PM
I will be back tomorrow to gloat if and when this amendment #1 passes, which it likely will.
Posted by: Will | January 29, 2008 at 04:05 PM
Hey Will, when it's the only thing Chuck is responsible for making "Drop like a rock"... will you be back tomorrow to toss my salad?
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:08 PM
Ron Paul is not as kooky as the media and everyone else make him out to be. I can't vote for him because of his foreign policy, but he keeps the other Republicans honest about what Republicanism should be.
It is refreshing to see someone challenging the status quo of the last 100 years. Instead of marginalizing him based on a few of his retarded supporters, like the guy above, we would do well to listen what he has to say, especially on economic issues.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:08 PM
The real question is, will you be back to take your lumps if it doesn't pass?
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:08 PM
Okaaaay then...so you say Paul is a fruit loop but is the only one to tell the truth about our economy. What does that make the rest of them then? Something like 3:21 post?
Posted by: Buzzard | January 29, 2008 at 04:08 PM
It makes the rest of them like the liars they are. Paul just blows it on the other issues.
I voted for Obama anyway, but I do like Paul's honesty.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:12 PM
VOTE HUCKABEE
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:13 PM
Ron Paul isnt even worth fighting over. He isnt getting the R nomination and will be a 3rd party candidate. He will take his little bunch of crazies along with him and play in the 1.5% nationwide sandbox. At least go out with some dignity.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:13 PM
Waaaa! Unfair Unfair! This should go all the way to the Supreme Court! (I'm sure we can get the decision we want there.) What? We won? Oh. Never mind.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:15 PM
So...they are reading the amendment at the polling place...no advance research, no real thinking about what it means...sigh.. Please people, take responsibility for your democracy.
Posted by: Kim | January 29, 2008 at 04:15 PM
Amendment 1 lost! Where's Katherine Harris when you need her.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:18 PM
Vote no on 1. It's not enough, Crisp is looking for an easy way out, if this passes he will say " I did my part, I did what I said I would do" and he will move on to McCain and forget about taxes and insurance.
Posted by: ms | January 29, 2008 at 04:19 PM
Didn't Ron Paul say that he was going to get rid of the Department of Education if elected? I don't know that I'd want to vote for someone that dumb...
Posted by: amanda | January 29, 2008 at 04:20 PM
This is one more fruit loop who voted for Ron Paul. And, I'm proud of it. He may be the only truthfull one in whole bunch.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:21 PM
I agree, Kim. Who in their right (wrong?) mind goes to the polling place not knowing what they're voting for? That's not the place to figure it out folks. You have a responsibility to know what you're voting for. RESPONSIBILITY! Get some!
Posted by: Mary | January 29, 2008 at 04:22 PM
That's because he thinks he is going to the White House with McCain.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:22 PM
So... basically Kim is skitso and has an internal pal named Mary.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:23 PM
skitso? Thats's a new one.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:29 PM
4:08 I will be back to take my lumps if it doesnt pass. I am pretty sure it will pass though, 75% sure.
Amanda, I didnt vote for Ron Paul, but the federal govt should not be involved in state and local education issues. So getting rid of the dept of education is not that wacky of an issue.
Posted by: Will | January 29, 2008 at 04:32 PM
4:18 I heard she's considering running http://www.draftkatherineharris.com
Posted by: Eric | January 29, 2008 at 04:33 PM
Amanda, newsflash:
WE DON'T NEED A NATIONAL DEPT OF EDUCATION
Education is something that can and should be handled at the local level. This country operated for most of its life without a national education dept and students performed better than they do today.
Try taking a 7th grade final exam from 100 or so years ago. You probably couldn't pass it.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:35 PM
I wish you people would quit talking about Fruit Loops. I'm starving!!!
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:39 PM
That's it, Will's a fruit loop too. I always suspected it.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:43 PM
I'm in Leon and I was confused by my ballot. There was just a list of names with round circles next to them. How am I supposed to choose when they don't even have a picture of the guys? I mean, how can anyone decide who to vote for with so little information? This is a conspiracy!
