Crist back on road for Amendment 1
Gov. Charlie Crist heads to Jacksonville on Thursday to meet with local media. Jacksonville leaders have come out against the property tax cut, so Crist will try to insert his own arguments.
From there, the governor heads to the ritzy Sea Ranch Club in Broward County followed by a visit with residents in Lake Worth. Events are being planned for Friday and possibly Saturday. Crist will take Sunday off but begin in South Florida on Monday and work his way to Tampa Bay.

The entire issue is a scam on the part of Chuck and the Legislature to divert voter attention away from their failure to address their promise to lower insurance rates (something they can impact), and make voters “think” that they can impact local tax rates (something they can’t impact).
This is smoke-n-mirrors politics as usual. We should vote NO, and throw their lying, miserable, self-serving a*ses out on Election Day. We can reload with new faces and try again. My $240 would only go towards my insurance increase anyway.

Did he file for vacation time? this is ridiculous. Aides and staff can't go campaigning (yes, issues are still campaigns) around the state while they're on the state timeclock.

Sorry 505 - sounds like sour grapes. I voted YES today! By the way, they are off state timecards dudes so chill!

We voted 4 YES today by absentee ballot.
We hope it loses at around 59% though.

Ah yes... "Sour Grapes"... the Rovette's answer to the truth.
Just take the red pill, 5:58, and everything will be juuuuussst fine. And remember, Babs loves you... just as long as you have money and don't smell poor!

just cause you BREC scumbags have been sucking CC's kneecaps, it doesn't give you a license to grovel!

I'm voting yes because I trust our great governor to do what's right for the people. I know he has the best interests of my family at heart.
For too long, the increasing taxes that have come from the Clinton loving liberal crowd have locked me in my house. Now that it has increased in value so much, I can't move to a larger house for my family to grow up in.
Thank goodness for our governor. He has realized the problem that we have faced from those tax hiking Socialist Clintonistas at City Hall. I just don't know where they could have spent all my money? I know our great governor will put them straight starting with Amendment 1.
I'm so happy to be voting yes, I feel like I'm voting for our governor again. Everytime I drive down the road and see his smiling face on the billboards, I just grin myself.
Thank you Charlie for fighting for me against the liberals. Thank you for helping to bring up real tax relief. I'm going to spend my money on a new Ipod. That's a great start to getting our great Sunshine state economy moving again!

8:49 Ha Ha Ha - had me going there for a minute! Remember that creepy huge billboard he put in downtown Tampa during the governor's race? You could see the artificially-whitened teeth gleaming all the way over here in Pinellas.

Thanks Paul (9:14) About what you would expect. The "Fors" are the people who want to pick your pocket of that extra $240, and the "Against" are just those who are teaching our kids, fighting fires, etc. and other public services which the GOP always wants to strangle and then privatize.
Responsible people will vote NO on 1 AND on all other GOP-sponsored tax plans. (Because they will not accept defeat and will contine to thwart the will of the people until they get their way.)

Yes on 1 here. It may not be much, but is better than nothing.
Pass it then more later.

NO, NO, NO, a thousand times NO to this fairy tale called Amendment 1. Only the most greedy among us support a measure which would permit recent and first-time homeowners to pay double (or triple) the tax paid by their neighbors with the same house.

Right On, 10:20!
Thanks for your grassroots input.
You are relentless in your cut and paste support of the rest of us poor over-serviced and over-infrastructured and over-educated folks.

No vote. The governor........white,white teeth, perfect sprayed hair, perfect artificial tan and a brain full of hot air. Vote note to this joke of a tax relief. We need TAX REFORM. LISTEN CHARLIE , Really LISTEN

Anyone who votes YES is either GREEDY or IGNORANT!!
Posted by: | January 24, 2008 at 04:40 AM
The Tampa Tribunte says VOTE NOT.....
because it adds to the inequities in an already unfair system, it will give little relief to those who need it most, and it will make true reform more difficult to achieve.
Bravo Tribune!!

How opponents can help!!
Wear a pin that says "VOTE NO ON 1" -- you can get a button kit at Michaels. I started wearning one and many people have asked me why vote no, or what is that? I'm surprised at the number of people who really have no understanding of this amendment. When I point out the unfairness of portability, they are appalled. Even those who have portability benefits will be outraged when one with greater benefits than thee moves in next door and pays far less than they do.
If portability passes, it will be devastating, and we will never come close to achieving a fair property tax system. DO NOT MAKE THIS PART OF THE CONSTITUTION. Florida will be the joke of the nation. We help the more advantage and screw everyone else.
VOTE NO!

To those of you who think we should take what we can now and ask for more later, here's a great analogy of that posted on another blog....
if this amendment passes, the governor and legislature will consider it a win and will not be so inclined to work towards an improved tax plan.

No truer words have ever been spoken!!!
I liken this to the wife who finds out her husband has not one but three mistresses. She demands he quits fooling around in order to save their marriage. He offers her a compromise, he'll give up one of the three and that should make her happy. If she agrees to his non-compromise, what are the chances this guy will ever be faithful?
We have proof of how this issue will sink like a rock after Crist's amazing insurance reform. He played around for a month and came up with a plan that would help only those who had received increases in the previous month or two and nothing for those of us who saw our bills jump from 1,500.00 to 7,500 in a 30 day period. Which one of you "YES" voters see him working on any revisions to that fiasco? HMMMM?
He's done, he made a stick and then slithered off to hide under a rock. Surely you all remember this?
The only way to see reform is to demand it the first time. He's a lawyers for Pete's sake, he can get the wording right if he wanted it right. Don't be fooled by the claims it was a rush job. Every single word was crafted with a particular goal in mind.
You know, I was pretty annoyed with all the people who voted for the super majority needed to amend the constitution a few years back. I felt it took the power away from the people and it was upsetting. Now? I am thrilled because it will be that much harder to pass this mess and it makes me realize that putting too much power in the hands of Florida voters might not be all that great. Too many are fooled too easily. So many catch a buzz word and then advocate the whole thing without a single clue as to what it means. Very scary.

Here's a great editorial that appears today in the Tampa Tribune.
http://www2.tbo.com/content/2008/jan/24/na-uncertainties-of-tax-question-turning-voters-up/
The last part of the editorial especially is brilliant!.........
When the original Save Our Homes amendment went before voters, a large minority left their ballots blank because they either didn't understand it or didn't know how they felt about it.
The new amendment is even more complicated. Our advice is, when in doubt about tinkering with the state constitution, the safest policy is to vote no.
.............
This is serious folks. It is AMENDING OUR CONSTITUTION! Don't play games and vote based on what you hope it will or will not do.
I encourage all you "undecided" to get out there and take the advice of the Tribune "When in doubt" VOTE NO!
All you YES voters, remember, this is AMENDING OUR CONSTITUTION. Unless it is deemed unconstitutional, we will be stuck with it. It is unethical, immoral and unjust. It makes an unfair system more unfair.
PLEASE BE SMART AND VOTE NO!

We Realtors in Pinellas County wanted to impeach Nancy Riley 14 years ago, when as the Greater Clearwater president, she SOLD OUR BOARD BUILDING out from under us without telling us! In violation of our bi-laws. At the time, she decided, on the legislative committee, WHO got the Board of Realtor's endorsements and MONEY for elections. The bond for Crist and Nancy Riley was made then.
Now that most State Realtors are waking up to the fact that she authorized ONE MILLION DOLLARS of our money to this Crist Drive Around Town Ammendment One Yes campaign, we are shocked and furious!
And of course, the Ammendment One campaigning happens to correspond to national media attention to the GOP primaries that Crist and Jeb Bush planned since last year to move up for Romney's benefit.
Since the newspapers are sick of Crist's elated AND INFLATED POLLS, they have been paying for more of their own. 45% is NOT 60% thresh hold for passing of this bill.
Since Rubio in South Florida is screaming with Rock Star status for a 1.35% CAP on homeowners' taxes, the scream for Rubio's plan is drowning out Crist's rah rah's.
I think this pepple of a rock dropping, another Crist failure will be drowning out national humiliation from the National Press Corps, dont you?
