Gus Barreiro: I'm in for HD 107 race

Housephotooriginal1518_2 Former state Rep. Gus Barreiro has made it official: He is running for his old seat.

"There's still a lot things to do in an area I really care about, and that is juvenile justice," said Barreiro, who helped expose the boot camp death of Martin Lee Anderson.

House District 107, which covers Miami Beach, is currently represented by Luis Garcia, a Democrat who took over in 2006 after term limits forced out Barreiro. As a member of the controlling party, Barreiro said he could be more effective than Garcia.

"He's a good guy," Barreiro said. "To me, it's nothing personal." Replied Garcia: "Come on down, what can I tell you? Maybe he needs a job. The Republicans are in for a rude awakening. I serve my people well and I'm willing to put my record up against anyone."

Barreiro really wanted to run the Department of Juvenile Justice but that vacancy will apparently to go someone else. The Buzz is Shairi Turner, DJJ's chief medical director, is being considered.

Glad to have you back, Gus!

These people just can't stay away and go back to the real world and real jobs. It's just sad!

This cat has public bathroom pervert scandal written all over him. I say let him in, it's been a while since we've heard from the "Toe-Tapper" gang!

Wasnt he term limited out? How can he run again for his same seat?

Because he left office in 2006 goofball! You only have to sit out one term.

This guy needs to get a real job and stay away from Tallahassee. Aren't there any other Republicans in that district?

How come all these stall-stalkers sport the dickey-do’s?

Get a job, Gus!!! GET A JOB!

The seat is generally a safe Republican seat, except if the GOP nominates someone named Carollo, like 2006. Even if the seat is trending Democrat in registration, my bet would be on Gus, the popular former Rep. and brother of popular County Commission Chair.

Gus? Find a real job? That's laughable.

I guess the Herff Jones "consulting" job didn't workout too well for Gus. Let's see if Alberto and Rudy are able to deliver him his old seat.

Gus:
you're a *itch.
I said you're a *itch
you're my *igga

I thought he got a job with the Miami Herald.

5:13....sounds like you're on the 10th floor of County Hall

The Barriero Record:
*Property Insurance Rates Skyrocket.
*Property Tax Rates Skyrocket.
*Schools are last in the country.

I highly doubt the voters will want to return to that kind of voting record.

Congratulations, Rep. Garcia, on your re-election to the Florida House of Representatives.

Gus is a great guy and a public servant. I hardly think the man is running for the salary of the job. He has a concern for the community, espec. criminal justice

Dr. Turner has never had a real job in her life! So how can she even be considered for the DJJ Secretary position?

Oh yeah because she is a woman, black and Democrat and Charlie wants to have a consenses rather than to try and rebuild the friction in his own party!

of course CC did not appoint Gus to DJJ - there was only room for one Martin Lee Anderson "hero" and that's CC

People get real! If anyone thinks that Barreiro needs a job, you are really naive. I had the oppertunity to work with him in Tally and he happened to be committed to helping people. One one can compare Barreiro to Garcia. I do not live in the district like am sure most of you do not also but, If I did my family would give him our votes.

Gus I hope you win and come back to the Capital. These jerks who are cowards writing this stuff would never have the balls to say it to your face but, would be the 1st knocking on your door asking you for help.

Can the voters in HD 107 be fooled twice? Why would they vote for an egomaniac who has bankrupted two businesses, failed to pay child support and established a Tally reputation as a womanizer. Wake up fellow Republicans---vote for Garcia.

as a staff member working for the house I can say that he is missed. If it was not for term limits he would have never left serving. I heard that he was running a DJJ program now which demonstrates his dedication to kids. The buzz in the capital is that he will have a great leadership position if he comes back and many of us are looking forward to working with him. Good luck Gus and we will be helping from the sidelines.

10:59 a.m.,

If you will at least acknowledge his one crazy issue, I will agree with you. I will leave it for you to name the issue, or we can pretend that he was perfect.

Arza (8:10)

Good to see you back! That's some funny stuff to remember. Barrerio's a snitch!

Word on the street is Arza will be running for state senate up in Palm Beach County where he recently moved (Lake Worth).

Gus is a nice guy but is embarrassing himself attempting to come back after being term limited. He needs to find a real job.

With Marco being term limited himself and a lot of the Dade delegation termed out, it's doubtful he'd get a leadership position

The power in the House is shifting to Central and North Florida with Sansom and Cannon.

10:59 #2 - As a house staffer you're awfully partisan so you must be in the majority office. Get back to work doing press releases.

You guys ..Im so sick of GOP ethics ..I pray for the day that the parties will even out in Tallahassee..After the great depression
