New pro-Amendment 1 mailer
The National Federation of Independent Business is joining the pro-Amendment 1 campaign with this mailer. The flier touts the little-discussed, but overall sizable, break on tangible personal property tax. NFIB states the average business would save $450 annually and that more than 1-million businesses would not have to file a TPP return.
"Don't wait! Vote today by absentee ballot or vote early beginning January 14," it states.

Is less than 450 going to really help business? WOuldn't an educated work force do more for a business than $450.
The governor is asking us to further reduce our education funding, police and fire for what?

"NFIB states the average business would save $450 annually"
WOW, that'll jump start the economy. Businesses can now hire half of an employee for a week... with no benefits!
And with his $240 tax break, that half of an employee can rent the trunk space of a 1972 Pinto for at least 3-weeks
WooooHooooo, THANKS CHUCK!

4:14 p.m.: You missed something here. This is not a one-time tax cut. It goes on year after year. Over 10 years, the savings total $4,500, a tidy sum for any small business owner.
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 04:22 PM
… Except that the small business will go out of business within 2-years. But hey; he’ll have $900 to start a new one.
… lemming staffer, GET BACK TO WORK STEALING MY TAX DOLLARS!
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 04:24 PM
Obviously, the first two comments are from people who don't own a small business. I do. The cut looks good to me -- would be glad to have it.

4:14 to answer your question - to help out businesses, realtors, developers, and all the other people that put the GOP in power. If truth in advertising were applied, this would be called "The Little Bailout", which if successful, will most likely be followed even bigger attempts. Just the GOP testing the waters to see how stupid we are.

Rollback taxes and spending to 2002 levels, and expand SOH to ALL property both residential and commercial.
Problem Solved!

Any tax relief is good considering the drunken spending of local government
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 04:49 PM
We are voting YES on 1.
Last poll showed it would easily pass with near 70% YES vote.
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 04:50 PM
Actually, the last poll showed it will fail by at least 62%... moron staffer.
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 04:57 PM
"Will the tax cut plan on the Jan. 29 ballot have any positive effect?"
"Good question. But before state economist Amy Baker could answer, Policy and Budget Chairman Ray Sansom cut off discussion."
That's all the polling you need, right there my friends!
Vote NO!
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 04:59 PM
I'm voting YES on Amendment 1.
-around $240 in property tax savings
-could save residents thousand with PORTABILITY
-force local government to stop spending like cash grow on trees
YES on 1 for me & my family
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 05:03 PM
I am a conservative who thinks that this plan is for the birds. I am voting NO!!!
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 05:07 PM
Actually, the last poll does show near 70% YES vote & easy approval if you take out the undecided.
Remember, on the ballot it's either YES or NO. There is no undecided.
So it looks like easy approval.
I believe it was a Quinnipiac poll

A bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush. I'm voting YES and then working for more tax relief in the spring.
Remember, 2008 is an election year. Legislature will be drooling to appease the taxpayers & voters.

$4500 over 10 years a tidy sum for a small business owner...
LOL! either your sarcasm is to be commended or you, likemany politicians in this state, have absolutely 0 clue as to how business is run
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 05:25 PM
clearly 5:16 failed reading comprehension and english in high school.
While 70+% supprt doubling the homestead, only 57% support portability and 59% support the amendment (as of 10/24/07 - which I do not recall was the original or newer amendment), in either case means, under Florida law, it FAILS
much like your grades in reading and english, not to mention statistics
Posted by: 5:16 is rwee-taw-ded | January 08, 2008 at 05:28 PM
5:28 IS TOTALLY WRONG.
JUST GOOGLE FLORIDA PROPERTY TAX ARTICLES.
Even papers know that the 57% YES vote in the poll will likely pass if you take out the undecided.
What don't you understand idiot? You cannot vote UNDECIDED at the ballot.
Let's say the undecided goes 57% yes then the amendment easily passes.
Even if the undecided go 50-50 the amendment still easily passes.
If you don't believe me, let's wager some real cash on it.
Even Gov Crist realize this thing will likely pass. Remember he is the governor that blows with the wind.
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 05:44 PM
hey jackas_s~ I got those numbers from the link homeboy cited above...Florida law requires 60% for an amendment to pass
wanna try again?
Posted by: 5:44 is also rwee-taw-ded | January 08, 2008 at 05:51 PM
5:51pm idiot,
count the votes from the poll
the raw numbers says it all.
Count the YES votes, count the NO votes
YES votes divided by total YES & NO vote = neat 70% approval which means it easily passes.
The liberal St Pete Times did a dis-service to readers by saying it is below the approval rate because they counted undecideds.
AGAIN, YOU CANNOT VOTE UNDECIDED ON JAN 29TH.
What don't you understand?
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 06:08 PM
You are all missing a key point.
The polls include independents and democrats. Independents have only this issue to vote on so turnout will be low. Democrats have no delegates from the primary, and their race will be all but over after SC so turnout will be low.
This amendment will be decided by Republicans, which is why they held a special session to get it on the ballot right at the deadline.
It passes.
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 06:16 PM
This thing passes with or without democrats.
Polling show they are just as concern on the property tax issue.
There was one poll that took opinions by parties. It showed pretty much equal results.
The main difference, they disapprove Pres. Bush more.
What is hilarious is that despite Pres. Bush approval ratings are low, they are much better than the Democratic led Congress led by Nancy Pelosi. People really think they are doing a poor job.

The poles in Mons Venus are more reliable that these. Get a freaking grip. You pinheads are so self-centered; you can’t see the forest through the trees.
THE GIG IS UP!
BULLSH*T POLITICAL SOUND BITES NO LONGER WORK!
CHECK THE TURN OUT YOU SELF-DESCRIBED POLITICAL GENIUSES; IT’S OVER, YOU PARTY HAS ENDED, THE PEOPLE ARE TAKING THEIR GOVERNMENT BACK!
… freaking idiots!

6:08 what part of:
you need 60% of voters to say YES to get it to pass
do you not understand?!
that poll was October...we've had 3 months now of news articles, campaigns on both sides, etc...We need new polling numbers for this debate to continue
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 07:32 PM
This is all irrelevant to me now...I just got a much better gig working for a defense contractor in Northern Virginia.
So my taxes might be higher, and the weather might be colder, but at least I'll have some decent transportation to get me to work on time, decent schools to send my kids, fewer annoying old people, but most importantly more educated neighbors.
Peace out Florida! I'm done with this cesspool!!!

last poll says this will pass
Let's see if it's right. Let's see if Gov Crist & Speaker Rubio wins.

good riddence, don't let the door hit you on way out

Rollback tax relief to 2002 levels, and expand taxes and spending to ALL
local government. Any SOH is good considering the drunken spending of both residential and commercial property. Last poll showed it would easily pass like cash grows on trees. We are drunken voting YES on 1.

Yes on 1.
Any relief is better than no relief plus
PORTABILITY OF SAVE-OUR-HOMES
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 11:13 PM
VOTE NO! Amendment 1 is unjust and immoral. ALL buyers need relief -- not just some.
NO TO PORTAIBLITY. it's discrimination at it's best. True scenario -- 3 buyers want to purchase the same home.
BUYER 1 - ports $500,000 exemption
BUYER 2 - ports $100,000 exemption
BUYER 3 - has no SOH exemption to port
Based on a millage rate of 20, each saves the following in property taxes.
BUYER 1 - saves $10,000
BUYER 2 - saves $2,000
BUYER 3 - saves $0 (this could be your child who wants to buy their first home)
ALL BUYERS NEED RELIEF -- NOT JUST SOME. This is unjust and unmmoral. VOTE NO!! Send our legislators back for true viable reform for all and for the good of our state.
Posted by: No Relief For Me | January 08, 2008 at 11:20 PM
Furthermore.....Buyer 1 made the most money on the sale of their home and most likely makes the most money.
Why do we want to give the most advantaged the biggest tax break?
VOTE NO!!!!
Posted by: No Relief For Me | January 08, 2008 at 11:23 PM
I'm glad Gov Crist is supporting Amend. 1
You have 4 yes votes here.
Posted by: | January 08, 2008 at 11:55 PM
Amendment 1 is inadequate and immoral providing further relief to those already contributing the least. Anyone with children who votes for this is crazy.
Furthermore portability is a trojan horse and will be deemed illegal by the courts for creating and permanent and elite class of taxpayer within the same class.
Vote NO and send them back to the drawing board. Meanwhile sign the petition today to provide sweeping and comprehensive property tax reform for everyone. This plan will cap property taxes at 1.35% for all property and still keeps SOH and all exemptions in place.
