Romney on Martinez: you can't get 'em all
Former Gov. Mitt Romney was asked late Friday afternoon at a St. Petersburg private airport to respond to the news that Sen. John McCain had won the endorsement of Sen. Mel Martinez.
"I think endorsements by and large are nice things to get but don't do a lot for you in terms of actually getting votes," Romney said. "I always try to seek good endorsements....but if other guys get them, well, that's fine, you can't get 'em all."
Later, Romney Florida campaign chair Al Cardenas acknowledged he has spoken with Martinez often in recent weeks also courting his endorsement.
"If he was not going to support us, I'm glad he supported somebody at the end of the process, when a lot of people have already made up their minds as they intend to vote," Cardenas said.
Today, the Romney campaign released a new web ad that spoofs a real McCain ad, saying that McCain is the "favorite Republican among Democrats."

yep, but will either of these tools endorse the chimp or run like hell from him?
this just in: the army is now ensliting fewer high school graduates that anytime i the past TWENTYFIVE years!!
just one more thing chimpy, cheney, skumfeld, powell, condiliar, et al have destroyed in the u.s.a.!!
what an endorsement!!!!

6:25 Your post doesn't make sense.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 06:30 PM
Is Romney human or cyborg ?
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 06:33 PM
Mitt - You didn't want this one.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 06:33 PM
Sure he didn't 6:33. lol
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 06:35 PM
Mel is better suited for McAmnesty.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 06:37 PM
I'm not a Mitt fan, but trust me Mitt... this is one worthless endorsement. No problem.
Mel is a result of pandering, and that dog don't hunt anymore... although the pinheads have'nt figured it out yet
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 06:43 PM
Mitt is no conservative. Stop being fooled everyone.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 06:53 PM
No worries Mitt. I wouldn't consider Mel a powerful endorsement anyway. You've got my vote.
Posted by: Dave | January 25, 2008 at 06:59 PM
Yeah, being endorsed by "Dave" is a REAL big deal. I guess if nobody else, no papers, nbody else endorses you, "Dave" is better than nobody.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 07:07 PM
Thanks Dave. Now go back to drinking Old Milwaukee on your porch in Ocala.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 07:07 PM
Make no mistake: this is a big endorsement.
Like it or not, Martinez is a US Senator. Former head of RNC. Still pretty high approval ratings. His endorsement means the man he endorses would be able to work with this Senator.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 07:09 PM
Crist will be next tomorrow night. Sorry Flip.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 07:13 PM
Martinez is very close to both Jeb and the President. This endorsement signals that the Bushes are throwing Mittsie to the wolves.
And those guys know a winner when they see one and can dump a loser when they spot one of those too.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 07:13 PM
Mel Martinez will get lots of hispanic votes especially in S. Florida which is likely where he'll be until Tuesday.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 07:13 PM
Crist won't endorse unless he is promised a spot on the ticket.
Unless Mitt promised him a spot on HIS ticket to NT endorse McCain.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 07:14 PM
The anti-immigration wing of the GOP weren't going to support McCain anyway. This could help McCain with the Cuban American community in SE Florida. Senator Martinez is a close friend of Sen. McCain, so McCain was the obvious choice for Mel.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 07:17 PM
I heard Mitt Romney promised the veep slot to Sean Hannity.
Can anyone confirm this or not ?
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 07:19 PM
Romney/Hannity
vs.
Romney/Levin
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 07:21 PM
I'll bet Mitt Romney will flip back to his Massachusetts positions just in time for the general election. According to Real Clear Politics, Mitt trails Hillary Clinton by 11.5%, Barack Obama by 18%,and John Edwards by 16.3% in potential general election match-ups. I don't agree with Senator McCain on every issue, but at least you know where he stands.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 07:23 PM
Say no to flip-flop pandering Romney
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 07:27 PM
Mitt Romney is a class act and no matter how the MSM try to spin or endorse the democrat suited in a Miltary uniform. the people of Florida know intelligence genuiness and character when they see it.
Mitt Romney

Mitt Romney is the biggest flip-flopping panderer.
He would say pretty much anything to get your votes. Look at what he did in Michigan.
pretty digusting to me
read this on Romney in michigan

Romney may be able to buy ads, but can't buy our votes in Florida
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 08:07 PM
Mitt must have promised that Vice-Presidency to a lot of people on TV. Joe Scarborough is downright fawning.
He seemed on the verge of a physical climax last night after the debate.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 08:11 PM
No way Scarborough gets the veep selection over Hannity. Hannity has the world's biggest man-crush on Flip Romney.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 08:22 PM
The Democrats will pull out the flip-flops if Romney is our nominee. They will be able to use the tactics that we used successfully against John Kerry in 2004.
I potential general election match-ups Mitt loses to Hillary by 11.5%, Obama by 18% and Edwards by 16.3%. The democrats are rooting for Huckabee and Romney.

Romney running against Washington as an outsider who has the Harvard MBA -- sounds just like George W. Bush.
You idiots repugs saw what that was like with "W" and we will demolish the crazy Romnoid like shooting fish in a barrel
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 09:22 PM
I've already gotten nearly 40 people to cast there votes early for Romney.
It's pretty simple, Romney not only has the vision, values, and experience for America's future but he's also got the momentum. He's gained over 8 points in the last seven days.
Wait until Tuesday. Everybody is coming on board.
Vote Mitt on Tuesday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got back from a McCain phone bank and we were getting about 2-1 favorable over Romney, with very few Giuliani responses.
Posted by: Dade County REC | January 25, 2008 at 10:41 PM
In 2002 Mitt Romney called John McCain a reformer and that he has always been an agent of change in the US Senate. Now he calls him a Washington Insider. Romney even flip flopped on McCain.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 10:46 PM
The Senator Martinez endorsement could sway a lot of Giuliani supporters to John McCain. Many now know he has no chance and may want their vote to mean something more.
Martinez and the hispanic vote could mean the difference.
Posted by: | January 25, 2008 at 11:21 PM
10:46pm, lol,
Mitt Romney is a serial flip-flopping panderer that may say anything for your vote.
It may work in Michigan, but won't work here.

romney's record is a living document!
Posted by: times change... so does mitt | January 25, 2008 at 11:43 PM
Dade County is for liberals no one cares really, the normal people in this state will put Romney over the top.
GO Mitt go!

Mitt looks like a mechanical Stepford husband.
Doesn't seem to like homosexuals at all, hmmm, but then gets the endorsement of the Jacksonivlle Mayor, John Peyton, a very well known gay man who lover Scott Teagle just received million of dollars from City Contracts.
This is disgusting

100,000 people already voted in Dade County in early and absentee voting. How much is this really going to matter?
Posted by: | January 26, 2008 at 04:44 AM
4:07: By that logic, Governor Crist should be endorsing Romney any time now.
Posted by: | January 26, 2008 at 04:46 AM
If it were not for the effect of the Mormon money real conservatives would be supporting Huckabee. What a shame!
Posted by: | January 26, 2008 at 07:24 AM
All you people supporting Romney - hey, if he gets in we'll all be Mormons after a while.

McCain is ahead in Florida by 2.5 points, per latest poll.

They said the same thing the day before the Michigan primary and Romney blew McCain away by 10 points.
Look what Reuters predicted the day before that primary. Obviously bad data.
Reuters prediction the day before the Michigan primary
McCain leads Romney in Michigan
Mon Jan 14, 2008 4:36pm EST
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican John McCain holds a slim lead on rival Mitt Romney in Michigan one day before the state's hotly contested presidential nominating contest, according to a Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released on Monday.
Rasmuessen was one of four polls predicitng Romney up as they do now. They only had him up by one, but Rasmuessen picked the winner not Reuters they called it for McCain.

Why did Mitt Romney baptize dead people of other religions as a Mormon? What kind of sick practice is this?

Looks like real Christians aren't buying Romney's lies.
Posted by: | January 26, 2008 at 10:35 AM
There's nothing wrong with NOT being Christian. Trouble is, like everything else about Romney, he has to "re-package" it to get people to like him "better". All just to get votes.
Why couldn't he just be honest about his faith?
Posted by: | January 26, 2008 at 10:37 AM
MCAIN = RINO period.. no one is drinking the koolaid.
Romney is the only conservative like Reagan left in the primary.
Posted by: | January 26, 2008 at 10:56 AM
The comments have become so foul and vituperative I hope all of you idiots choke to death on your own bile.
Posted by: | January 26, 2008 at 11:13 AM
How are Romney and Reagan alike?
Romney changes positions as the wind blows. Reagan was a man of character.
Romney shows a contenptuous attitude for the people. Reagan was a man of the people.
Please, let Reagan rest in peace and don't offend his memory.
Posted by: | January 26, 2008 at 11:22 AM
hey all you *uckabee supporters, your twisted religious bigotry against romney is sickening - romney gives a great speech on the roles of government and religion and what does *uckabee say last week before south carolina? he says that the constitution should be changed to reflect God's word - sorry, not even the hebrews had religious governments - there is a place for religion in politics, but it is not to be the driving force
take your "compasionate" BS and crawl back under your arkansas rock - we don't want any more weirdos from your state near the white house.
Posted by: | January 26, 2008 at 12:18 PM
romney should blunt this endorsement by saying "well sure, martinez is a senator too, look at all of mccain's endorsements, they're all senators so we're not surprised by martinez decision at all" but probably too late to say that
