[Leah Grosz pushes her son Ethan, 2, after she voted at Precinct 1 at First Baptist Church in Dade City today. "This is the first time I have done regular voting instead of early," she said. She said she came right around noon to beat the crowd. "I figured if they would be coming they would be coming soon."] (KATHLEEN FLYNN | Times)
Computer problems delayed votes in Hernando, the polls are busy though running smoothly in Hillsborough and there are reports of some minor problems over in Delray Beach.
What was your voting experience like today?

I was in and out in two minutes. The poll workers were well trained and did a great job. It is amazing what happens when a supervisor of elections does his/her job. Maybe others in the state should take note.

No problems where i voted, but check this out from Sun Sentinel:
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sfl-129electionday,0,6968764,print.story
In northern Coral Springs, near the Sawgrass Expressway and Coral Ridge Drive, David Nirenberg arrived to vote as an independent. Nevertheless, he said poll workers insisted he choose a party ballot.
"He said to me, 'Are you Democrat or Republican?' I said, 'Neither, I am independent.' He said, 'Well, you have to pick one,''' Nirenberg said.
In Florida, only those who declare a party are allowed to cast a vote in that party's presidential primary. Nirenberg said he tried to explain to the poll worker that he should not vote on a party ballot because of his "no party affiliation" status.
Nirenberg said a second poll worker was called over who agreed that independents should not use party ballots, but said they had received instructions to the contrary.
"He said, 'Ya know, that is kind of funny, but it was what we were told.' … I was shocked when they told me that." Nirenberg said he went ahead and voted for John McCain.

I was unable to vote more than one time. What happened?
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 02:05 PM
I voted at my precinct at the Oldsmar Fire station. It was a seamless entry and exit. Poll workers were all just fantastic, cheery and greeting. Ya know even though my vote as a Democrat is not supposed to count man it felt good giddy and celebratory. God bless the United States of America.

Mine went fine as well. But it had nothing to do with the SOE.
Unfortunately, a little truncation here, a tad adjustment to the logarithms there… and it those in power will get what they wanted.

When I voted this morning at Precinct 203 at the West Tampa Convention Center ... Barack Obama was there smiling as I went in to vote for him.
OBAMA!

I went to church for the first time in 15 years to cast my vote my parties Presidential nominee (and No on Amendment 1). I am a Tallahassee resident, and for some reason my precinct was changed from the Tallahassee Little Theater to the Genesis Church up the road. Although there were no visible religious symbols in the voting room, I remain irritated at the flagrant disregard for the Constitutional principle that holds matters of church and state be separate. I don't want anyone else in the voting booth with me, not even God.

Fine.

So, I hear Charlie moved his entire amendment 1 afterglow party from st pete to Miami at the last minute. I wonder if he's footing the bill for both joints? Sounds like good use of the money he raised. That money would be better served providing tax relief for floridians. After all, it's "the people's money" right?

For the life of me I cannot understand why this is so hard. And if you have problems year after year, just order an absentee ballot. Come on people, really.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 02:18 PM
i voted for huck
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 02:20 PM
My voting experience went just fine. I voted for Jimmy Carter three times, and I didn't even know he was running again. Plus, when I voted NO on Amendment 1, the machine spat out a Snickers bar and told me I had High Score... cool.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 02:20 PM
Jimmy who?
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 02:23 PM
I keep getting negative calls from the Romney campaign.
What a waste of time and money by this guy!
Is this how he would run the government? Maybe Mccain is right about Mitt leaving a huge health care deficit in Mass.
Posted by: I Heart Huckabees | January 29, 2008 at 02:24 PM
I would vote for Carter before I voted for McCain.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 02:24 PM
McCain isn't right about anything except for the fact that he will throw anyone and any party under a bus to get himself some more "straight talkin" face time with the media. he's a jerk.

I voted for Barack Obama today!
Posted by: Sally | January 29, 2008 at 02:35 PM
Barack who?
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 02:39 PM
2;26,
Since Romney has been on BOTH sides of every issue, you might be able to say that he isn't wrong on any issue... now.
Or, you could conclude that Mitt isn't believable and will say anything to win.
Florida will show forked-tongue the door just like SC and NH did.

I would vote for a slightly fire damaged couch before I voted for Jimmy Carter.

You don't think McCain is fork-tongued? Ya'll know he'll say anything to get elected too.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 02:43 PM
McCain is good friends with Hillary Clinton though...

I just voted in precinct 41, Hernando county. An electronic system I've never used here before was in place. I presented my voter card, was asked for my driver's license, the pollworker (who didn't look to confident in what she was doing) swiped it 4 or 5 times and then I think just typed my license number in machine, I had to sign my name electronically twice and accept on electronic pad twice, was given a paper coupon with a copy of my signature which I gave to another pollworker in exchange for my voting ballot which I completed and then fed into another machine.
I think I might have voted 6 times!
Anyway, I think if what I experienced was widespread, the vote in Hernando will be questioned.

Of all the candidates, Mitt Romney has flipped and flopped as bad as anyone could imagine.
He makes John Kerry look consistent.
Kerry, Romney, losers.

Precinct 252 was uncrowded...only one poor befuddled old lady there, but of course she managed to stand right in the only entrance and ask all kinds of questions about amendment 1, so I patiently waited because I was raised to respect my elders. None of the volunteers at the polls could answer my question "How do I write in a "none of the above" vote but they gave me the elections website so I could find my own answer.
Posted by: None of the above | January 29, 2008 at 02:48 PM
I supported abortion before i said i was against it.
I supported gun control before i said i was against it.
I supported new taxes before i said i was against it.
Posted by: Romney or Kerry... is there a difference | January 29, 2008 at 02:48 PM
great!! I think Buddy Johnson is doing a pretty good job. I can't remember any serious hiccups. Surprising since we have new technology and thousands of underpaid, elderly poll workers. The press needs to lay off the poor guy for a little while and focus on real issues.

Like 2:09, I was moved from the Tallahassee Little Theater to the GenesisChurch.tv headquarters.
At 7:20 am, all was well -- pollworkers were ready and waiting for the rush.
As for the precinct being moved to a church... not only are there no religious symbols visible -- it is also located in a strip mall with a movie theater and the room with the voting booths wasn't more than five steps from the storefront. The parking situation is definitely much better at the Miracle 5 plaza.
(And various churches use the Tallahassee Little Theater for their services every weekend)

At my voting place, everything went great with the touch screens.
When I touched for Obama, the machine flashed, “Tilt”
When I touched NO for Amendment 1, the machine played a 45 from the 50’s.
When I touched YES for the School Mill, the machine spat out a lotto ticket.
I went over to the Poll Worker, but she was sleeping… or dead, I don’t know.
I was so confused that when I was leaving, the exit poller asked how I voted and I said “A large pizza, no onions”… and I ran away as fast as I could.

I was at my polling place in Miami for just 30 minutes and Mitt Romney managed to changed his positions five more times in that short period.

I was at my polling place and I asked a little old lady if she was voting for McCain.
She said "No, but you can use my walker"

I was at my polling place and I asked a little old man if he was on board with the whole “O Train” thing.
He said, “No, but I was sad to hear he retired, I like the Bucs.”

I was at my polling place and I asked a young lady if she liked Ruliani.
She said, “No, but I do like Chinese food.”

Word is McCain is cleaning up in Miami.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 03:28 PM
I was at my polling place an asked a young man if he supported Edwards. I don’t think he heard me cause he just stared at me. Come to think of it, he might have been stoned... his fingers were covered in cheese doddle powder and all he said was “dude, where’s the water fountain”.
The I asked an old lady in she wanted to vote Huckabee.
She slapped my face, called me “fresh” and started to waive down a cop.
… I ran.

I voted in Tallahassee.
There were seven people working the polls when I arrived (8:15 a.m.) and I was the only voter in the building. Four people walked in as I was leaving, but I think that the workers were well prepared.
It took less than 2 minutes total. I was pleased with my experience there. I have voted early voting in the majority of the last half dozen elections because I work downtown, so it has been a while since I voted on election day in my own precinct.

Absentee voting is the BEST
My ballot arrived weeks ago, and I mailed it in last week...
* YES ON 1! *

Voting in my precinct in Okaloosa county went very smoothly. We have optically scanned ballots. Good paper trail.
Poll workers are very well trained.

I voted in the Democratik People's Republik of Leon County. I had to swear allegience to Lenin and Marx to get a ballot, and it was already filled in for me. That's what I call customer service.
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:52 PM
4:46 = Charlie Crist
Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 04:53 PM
4:42
All I can say is that we have had a fantastic SOE for the past several years. Well respected statewide as far as nationally. Our county paid for the optical scanners long before the new laws required it. In fact, we were greatly releived when the touch screen decision was re-thought. Scanners were in place here before the 2000 election. No hanging chads here.
